Change of Plan

Titans

Kris awoke early as he had done the day before. Lazily dragging him over to the wall, he reached down to read the blue sticky-note Tao slide under the door for him.

“Benben, stop being so sweet!” Kris read aloud, "Also, watch the T.V. because Luhan thinks I’m going to fight today. Unfortunately, I have to win this round so we won’t be able to see each other just yet… I miss you~ P.s. Your picture is amazing, I wish I could draw.” he smiled when he finished reading.

Humming a faint tune, Kris strolled casually into the living room. Everyone had already occupied the couch so Kris pulled a chair out from the dining room. A blonde woman relayed the past fights, including high quality clips, and introduced today’s fighters. Sure enough, Tao was dressed in the red and black track suit, looking absolutely stunning. Standing on the opposite end of the field, D.O. tightened his sports gloves. Suddenly, two others appeared on the field: Luhan and Kai. Tao and D.O. also seemed to have no idea what was going on.

The camera suddenly flashed to TOP. He tried to stand, but two guards held him down by his shoulders. Instead, a lean foreigner with graying blonde hair approached the podium. A face Kris hated to recognize, one that made his expression contort in anger.

The person standing in TOP’s place at the podium, announcing the sudden death round was none other than the man who put all twelve of them in this awful situation. His father.

“Good evening ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. I welcome you today to a very, very special event. At the request of the people, our organization has decided to no longer tease you and drag out this little revenge game. So without further ado, let’s welcome today’s fighters!” He spoke with great confidence.

Kris and the others sat speechless at the sudden change of plans. “We should go down there,” Suho announced.

“It’s too dangerous,” Lay tried to calm the leader.

“No, something isn’t right. We need to be there in case something happens.” Suho tried speaking calmly but everyone could hear the worry in his voice.

“I agree. I’m going down there. If something should happens to Tao…” Kris hung his head. What would he do if something happened to his Panda?

“I’m going too,” Sehun stood.

Lay sighed when he realized he was quickly outnumbered. The group dressed incognito as they walked the barren road that they’d walked a plenty of times to memorize. The road that led them to the hell and back. Now, they were willingly walking back to that place, back to Coliseum 2.

When they arrived, a guard greeted Suho respectfully and introduced himself as Lee Joon, the Morph Titan. He had been assisting them with their plan by “disposing” the “dead” bodies, or dragging them back to the other apartment. He secretly led them to a place under the stands to watch the fight through missing bricks in the wall.

Kris watched nervously as the four fighters intently attacked one another. As if they’re actually fighting each other Kris bit his lip, a habit he thought he’d dropped.

We’re not actually fighting each other, Kris. We just have to put on a really good final act for the crowd and the leader of the Human rebellion, your father. Luhan’s voice echoed in his head.

Tao had chosen to wield a rope dart again and swung it around ferociously when D.O. covered his arms with a thin layer of Earth, acting like armor when the rope dart struck him. While the two threw harsh punches at each other, Kai attacked Luhan from multiple angles. Kai would strike to the elder’s left then teleport to his right to strike again, but Luhan barely avoided the attacks.

Observing D.O.’s attack pattern, Tao quickly realized that his rope dart was useless if he ever wanted to land a blow on the other because it took too long to respond to his commands. He would need a defter weapon that responded to his commands with lightning speed. Tossing aside his previous weapon, Tao picked up a weapon of greater weight. Skillfully swinging two broad swords, Tao swung violently at the Titan of Earth.

“You’ll have to be a little more random than this, Kai; or else I’m just going to keep avoiding you.” Luhan smirked. Frustrated, Kai halted for a moment, debating his options. Hearing a whimper to his right, he quickly spotted that Tao had sliced a gash into his lover’s right forearm. Kai quickly teleported in front of D.O. to block the next attack with his body. A trickle of blood slid down the Titan of Teleportation’s forehead.

Luhan sat back and watched as Tao skillfully blocked attacks from the two opposing forces, D.O. launching boulders at him and Kai teleporting by him to land a punch. Their efforts were seemingly futile with the amount of Wushu he’d taken. Kris recalled one night that the younger told him about how he’d been trained to be good, but the Chinese-Canadian had no idea he was so talented. He made fighting look more like an art rather than a blood bath.

Eventually, Kai and D.O. had worn their opponent out and his reactions became more delayed. His blocks were less graceful and more stumbling for survival. Kris’s heart sank at the sight even though he knew it wasn’t real. Kai finally managed to punch him once, square in the jaw. He fell to the ground and panted harshly as his lip bled.

“Tao,” Kris whispered to himself.

The Titan of Time Control sat still while the two opponents approached him, assuming he’d given in. Kai punched him once more on his face. Tao stumbled backwards and landed on his back, lying still except his sharp panting and the flinch of his body when he touched his bloody and bruising lip.

“How fair is two against one? Are you guys really that cowardly to not fight me like men,” Tao taunted.

“Shut up, Tao.” D.O. kicked his sword away.

Lifting a heavy boulder with all his might, D.O. marked it as the object causing Tao’s death. Too quickly did Tao get up and dash at him with all his force, pushing as far back as he could manage. When Tao pushed the Titan of Earth far enough, D.O. released his control over the giant rock and fell under its large mass.

Luhan clapped his hands in the distance while Kai cursed profanities at his elder for crushing his lover. Repetitiously knocking Tao back and forth with his punches, the Titan of Teleportation landed an attack to the stomach. The blow knocked Tao to his knees. Kris clung desperately to his self-control, trying not to run out onto the field and protect Tao.

Kai picked up the sword and stumbled like a mad man toward Tao. “This is the part where you muster the remains of your energy to avoid me,” Kai spoke out of the side of his mouth. “Unless you can’t,” he smiled. “In a case like this, you’d use your powers to go back so you don’t have to loose miserably, right?”

Kai lifted his sword and Tao shut his eyes tightly.

“Damn it, Luhan! Let go of me!” Kai barked. His body froze with his hands above his head, the tip of the sword pointed directed at Tao’s stomach.

“That wouldn’t be any fun,” Luhan laughed. “I was hoping to fight Tao. He seemed like a better opponent for me.”

“Too bad I beat him up, huh?” Kai twitched. Tao dragged himself away from Kai before Luhan let go of him.

“You both realize your efforts up until now have been futile, right? I mean, I’m the freaking Titan of Mind Control. I was destine to be the victor since they announced this stupid game,” Luhan’s face twisted evilly.

Gathering his energy, Tao swiftly kicked the sword out of Kai’s hands and had it into the Titan of Teleportation’s stomach before he had time to react. Kai fell to his knees.

Tears from both the attacker and victim fell onto the sand beneath their feet. “I’m sorry”. The words were whispered but the speaker wasn’t one of the fighters, but a simple observer whom thought he’d brought his kind salvation by giving them a plan to follow, a way out.

TOP stood among them on the field. “I’m so sorry,” his skin turned metallic as he lunged toward Luhan.

Chapter 24: I knew it!!! There was something weird about how the first duels were a bit... Harsh? Like they discarded everythig and were even throwing insults. And when Kris observed how forced Suho was, how he pracyically impaled himself on Kai's spear and even pulled it out to let the blood gush out. And when Luhan was talking to Suho, like he was telling him that he was going to die. Mehehehehehe, they're not dead! It's time for the Titans to rise!
