Introductions

Titans

It wasn't as awkward as Kris thought it was going to be. Okay, it was a little awakward. Everyone was absorbed in their foreign conversations with each other and the food...everyone except him and Tao. It was weird that Tao wasn't speaking to the other people that he could talk to; he just sat silently like Kris. Kris tried as hard as he could to remember whatever Chinese he had learned when he was younger, but nothing came to him. All he could concentrate on was his eggs and the throbbing headache he had. Tao looked over and seemed to take notice of his discomfort.

"You...you good?" Tao asked, placing his hand on Kris's shoulder.

"Yeah," Kris said with a slight smile. Kris opened his mouth to say something else but got interrupted by a loud static noise from a giant TV hanging at the far end of the room. A person Kris didn't recognize appeared on the TV with a sly smile. Everyone stood up and stared at the TV intently. He had a long face and spoke in a deep voice:

"Hello, Kris." The man with slicked back black hair spoke in English, with two rows of translated subbing at the bottom of the screen. "Welcome to your new home," he spoke with a slight accent.

"What is going on?" Kris stood up asking the TV. The man began to speak again, but this time in a different language, so English subtitles were placed under the Chinese ones.

They read: "I am the ring leader of this whole operation, the one on top. So please, call me TOP. You've known you were a titan since you were little but were able to conceal it well thanks to your mother. Fortunately, we got a little tip on your location in the middle of the night from someone you know very well. Now you, the 12th titan, have been captured. You're going to live in this dorm with the 11 others, so try and behave yourself. I've even decided to be nice and give you all a special present. I want you to take notice to the thin bracelets on your right wrist. If we see you acting up and using your powers at an inappropriate time, we'll shock you. And believe me; it hurts more than you can imagine. Anyway, play nice boys and save your strength for later. You'll need it."

Just then, a trap door opened from the ceiling and a small box fell from it, landing in the leftover eggs. Someone squealed when the box fell and everyone looked around the table, trying to guess who did. Kris guessed it must’ve been the young boy sitting across from him since his face was beet red. Tao stood up and pulled out a pocket knife, violently ripping the tape off the top of the box. Remind me not to piss him off Kris thought. He opened the box to reveal individual ear pieces, 12 of them. They were passed around but everyone was hesitant to put it in their ear. Kris swallowed hard and was the first to place it in his ear. Everyone intently stared at him, wondering what the device would do.

“What is it?” He heard Tao ask him. Tao had said that in English. His lips didn’t match the words, but he could still understand him.

“It’s probably a device these guys will use to tell us what to do,” said the loner kid on the other side of the table.

“I can understand you,” Kris finally said. Tao met his eyes for a moment before reaching for a device for himself.

“What did you say?” Tao asked. His lips again didn’t match the words Kris was hearing, but he understood what the words meant.

“I said I can understand you,” Kris said again. Tao’s face quickly brightened as he realized the purpose of the device.

“It’s a translator!”  Tao turned around and shouted to his other companions. The loner boy didn’t seem to understand his words, so he decided to try the device for himself.

“What is this thing?” He asked with a rough tone in his voice. He had really tan skin and reminded Kris of a gangster by the way he slouched.

“It’s a translator!” Tao said again happily. Suddenly everyone reached for the ear piece and set it in their ears.

“We can understand each other now,” a guy at the other end of the table said with grin.

“Which is weird because I’m speaking Korean, but you all seem to understand me,” said the young boy across from Kris.

“Alright, before we get too excited, how about we start off with introductions?” Kris suggested, since the only person he knew was Tao. Some of the others might know each other, but at least they could introduce themselves to anyone they didn’t know now.

“Okay, I’ll start. My name is Chen. I’m 20 this year and I’m Korean, but I prefer speaking Chinese.”

“Which titan are you?” One of the younger boys asked.

“Oh, I’m the Titan of Lightning. I found out during a storm when I was five,” Chen said with a happy tone.

“When did they capture you?” the loner kid asked.

“…Well my friends saw me and told the police, so I’ve been here the longest,” Chen admitted sadly. Everyone sat quietly for a moment before one of the younger boys raised his hand.

“My name is Xiumin,” he said brightly. “I look pretty young, but I’m actually 23”. Kris nearly choked on his water when the boy guy revealed his actual age. “I’m the Titan of Ice and I found out during a snow storm while my family was visiting China when I was 16. I’m actually South Korean as well, but I like to speak Chinese. I also got captured during the trip, so the people think I’m Chinese instead of Korean.” He laughed.

“My name is Luhan. I’m also 23,” he said quickly. “I’m Chinese. I am the Titan of Telekinesis. I can read your minds. Watch out,” he smiled.

“Um, my name is Tao and I’m 20. I’m also Chinese and I’m the Titan of Time Control. When I was 13, my mother and I were taking a train to visit the city. Someone pushed her into the tracks as the train was coming. Luckily, I had already been practicing my powers so I was able to stop time and save her. The story ended up all over the news and I was kidnapped in the middle of the night…” Tao looked down at his empty plate.

“Uh, I’m Kris,” he introduced himself. “I’m 22 and I’m Chinese-Canadian. I am the Titan of Flight. My mom told me who I truly was and told me never to use my powers, so I didn’t. When I told my dad he…” Kris bit his lip to prevent himself from getting too emotion. Tao rubbed his back and told him that he doesn’t need to continue.

“Oh, I guess it’s my turn,” this guy hadn’t notice the clock ward rotation style they’d been using to introduce themselves in order. “My name is Lay and I’m 21. I’m also Chinese. I’m the…I’m the Titan of Healing…It sounds useless, but you get what you get and don’t complain right? Anyway, I found out when my 7th grade girlfriend fell off her bike and after rubbing my hands over the scratch, it healed itself. Unfortunately, she tattled to our teacher and I was hauled here. I never properly got to break up with her,” he laughed.

“My name is Suho, I’m 22 this year and I’m South Korean, I am the Titan of Water. I got captured the same day I discovered I could use my powers. Someone was drowning while taking swimming lessons with me and I split the water in half for him so he breathe. The captured me as soon as I changed into my school uniform.  Now that I think about it, I probably looked kinda like Moses,” Suho joked.

“Hi, my name is Baekhyun. I’m a year younger than Suho and I’m also Korean. I am the Titan of Light. One night at a sleepover my friend noticed that I glowed in the dark, so his parents called the police and they brought me here. I was only like 8 at the time and I had no idea that glowing was considered a power!” he complained.

“Uh, my turn I guess. I’m Chanyeol and I’m a year younger than Baekhyun. Something he forgot to mention was that we are childhood friends. Coincidently, we both we captured on the same day. I got angry when I found out they took my Baekhyun and fire started coming out of my hands, so my parents turned me in. If you didn’t already guess, I’m the Titan of Fire,” Chanyeol explained.

“Hello everyone, my name is Do Kyungsoo but please call me D.O.” he smiled widely. “I’m 20 like Chanyeol and also South Korean. I’m the Titan of Earth.  I was actually caught when I went to a local festival when I was 17. I went with a group of friends, some of them being girls, so I wanted to show off a bit.” He blushed, “They had a strength test and I accidently broke it.”

“Hey. I’m Kai,” the loner kid introduced himself. “I’m 19 and, again, Korean. I’m the Titan of Teleportation. Long story short, someone was falling off a building and I jumped after them. Before I realized it, both of us were safely on the ground, completely unharmed by the fall.”

The last person looked really nervous, like he didn’t want to speak, but everyone was curiously awaiting his introduction.

“Hi” He finally said after a little bit.

“You’re name?” Kai asked, pretending to seem uninterested.

“…Thehun…”

“What?” Baekhyun looked up from the crossword puzzle he’d been working on before he introduced himself.

“His name is Sehun. He has a lisp so he can’t say his name properly,” Luhan explained. Sehun looked down in embarrassment.

“Yeah… I am 19 and the Titan of Wind. There wath bad weather tho I redirected the wind. They captured me when they thaw me,” he said with a shy smile.

Everyone has such different stories and different backgrounds, but we’ve all ended up here. I wonder what they’re going to do with us now that they have the 12 of us. Kris pondered.

Chapter 24: I knew it!!! There was something weird about how the first duels were a bit... Harsh? Like they discarded everythig and were even throwing insults. And when Kris observed how forced Suho was, how he pracyically impaled himself on Kai's spear and even pulled it out to let the blood gush out. And when Luhan was talking to Suho, like he was telling him that he was going to die. Mehehehehehe, they're not dead! It's time for the Titans to rise!
