Chapter 73

Youngest of Pieces: [WHO- I AM] (8)

Media is having a rough time today. Though it is a certain amount of media allowed to report and film during Hannah’s book promotions during the day, there are a hundred of journalists and reporters trying to follow her at each event. A lot of them are currently crowding by the book launch party in the evening where a carpet has been laid out with a big poster of the book cover in the background – like a red carpet.

Last year the first book ‘Joe – Under Seoul’s Streets’ was released on Hannah’s birthday and in the evening she went to a birthday party where they celebrated her book debut as well. This year it is different. It is a smaller event with media by the red carpet to take pictures of the celebrities attending and to do small interviews as well, and inside it looks like a high class party with a buffet, a bar filled with alcohol and non-alcohol drinks and small round tables with flowers and snacks and wherever you look it is posters of Hannah and the book, posters for the promotions. Whenever a car pulls up to the red carpet and the door is opened, the media out there are going insane when seeing who steps out of it.

Some of the first to arrive is of course the four members of 5 Pieces – Emelia, Julia, Maria and Carolina – who are all dressed in summer-inspired clothes fitting for the red carpet. They stand together on the red carpet and also on their own for solo shots, smiling and posing for the photographers from all directions before the media is calling out to get some questions answered. Emelia calmly walks a little to the left from standing next to Carolina to stand on her own, smiling when hearing questions.

“Hannah’s writing was never a secret to us. She would be writing during class, and then hide it when we wanted to read. She always had to be so secret about it, but when she showed it once she kept showing the more she wrote,” Emelia is telling in confidence.

“Were you allowed to read this book before everyone else and if you have read it, what do you think about it?” another asks her and stretches out a microphone to Emelia.

“As her best friend, I got to read the book before her publisher. I’m her lucky charm-”

I’m her lucky charm,” Maria interrupts when walking by behind and Emelia gives out a laugh.

“You wish,” Emelia tells Maria before turning back to the media; cameras and microphone. “I love Hannah’s novel. It has a lot of hilarious jokes and y people; it’s just my style of book, and our Hannah is a great writer. You should read it; it would be a loss if you didn’t.”

The ladies are smiling and joking with the journalists and reporters, being comfortable from the moment they arrive at the event and when stepping indoors they start to mingle with those present, being introduced to a few people as well. Being in 5 Pieces they are the contacts to the main star of the event; Hannah, who they say is on her way there after finishing a book signing event.

Arriving to the event, fancy dressed on the red carpet, are not just top idols but actors and actresses make a surprise appearance as well. 4 Minute’s Hyuna and Sohyun comes a few minutes before solo singer G.NA, followed by young actors Mat Park and Kwon Hyunsuk (acted in Midnight Dream alongside Hannah and Hyunsuk is also Maria’s We Got Married partner); older female singer Ivy and SM’s radio star Isak arrives one after one too, closely followed by Super Junior’s Shindong and Kyuhyun and female comedian Kim Shin Young. Someone who makes media really freak out by making an appearance is the beautiful actress Shin Min Ah. She looks beautiful in a dress and a pretty smile when posing for the cameras, even holding her own copy of the new book. No one knows why she is there and the media asks her for her reason to attend the event.

“I am a big fan of 5 Pieces and of ‘Joe’,” Min Ah answers in a calm voice and a beautiful dimple smile, holding the book as if she is promoting it. “I came to personally get an autograph by my idol.”

She keeps smiling when walking inside.

Infinite’s L, Sungyeol and Sunggyu comes, as well as actor Yoon Shiyoon, actress Kim Hyejong (also part of Midnight Dream cast), the gay actor Hong Suk Chun comes with a huge smile and members of SNSD makes their appearance as well – Taeyeon, Jessica, Hyoyeon, Yoona and Tiffany.

Important people are late, that is what Maria says. Hannah is late.

What they don’t know is that the girl is re-doing her make-up in the car, calling out for the driver to please hurry up as she is a person who hates to be late. The reason she is late is because the book signing took longer than expected and she had to go change clothes and fix her hair for this book launch party. She is panicking in the car, applying lipstick with the tip of her finger and stretching for a tissue to wipe her hands, glancing in the mirror reflection.

“She’s here!” a reporter calls out when a van stops; a familiar van to some of the reporters.

Stepping out of the van, being met by hundred of camera flashes is Hannah, wearing a blue patterned sleeveless maxi dress. She holds up the dress when getting out of the van with Manager Lee’s help, photographers capturing on screen her heel sandals – high heels and uncomfortable, but Hannah agreed on wearing it as it matches the outfit and they are hidden under the dress most of the time – and she has her long blonde hair parted in the middle and straightened out (it was wavy during the day but for a special occasion now they have it straight).

“You look beautiful tonight, Hannah!” a reporter calls out when Hannah touches her dress after dropping it down, and she looks up with a collected smile.

“Thank you.”

She touches her hair to not have it in her face when she walks up to the red carpet, starting to strike a natural, feminine pose with her eye-charm smile . It is the perfect look on the red carpet, though it is for just a small event. It was her stylist who convinced her to wear the maxi dress; to remind people it is summer and that she is a young woman with varies of styles. Hannah crosses her foot over the other when slowly starting to walk to the side, as it is a line of reporters wanting a good angle and she just smiles a little wider when reporters starts to shout out questions in fear she will walk inside right away.

“You look absolutely stunning tonight,” a female reporter comments when Hannah comes up to her.

“Well thank you,” Hannah smiles kindly, waiting to be thrown over with questions. She nods and answers the questions with smiles and laughter; doing the same thing she has done during the whole day, enjoying the first day promotion of her new book. And for some reason she isn’t tired.

One reporter asks her if she has gotten any sleep – as even the reporters have been following her the whole day – and she laughs lightly.

“I actually haven’t gotten any sleep. At the moment I’m not even tired but after the party I’ll go home and get a good night sleep,” Hannah answers, looks at the man with a smile. “Do I look tired you think?”

“No, you look to be glowing,” he shows a melting smile back at her, “Who among tonight’s guests are you looking forward to meet, Hannah?”

“I have no idea of who is here so you will have to ask me that again later,” Hannah jokes with him and then moves on.

It takes another five minutes before Hannah is done talking to the media and she is welcomed inside, and she smiles enormously when Maria embraces her in a hug.

“Remind me to kiss Yong Hyun later for your outfit,” Maria giggles at her before taking her hand. “You can never guess who is here!”

At first thought she thinks Jonghyun is there (her boyfriend is here!) but then she is reminded of that he is in China, not even in the same country so the second-long excitement disappears until Maria introduces her to the person no one expected to be there and Hannah’s mouth opens in surprise.

“It is such an honour to meet you,” Shin Min Ah smiles the prettiest smile on earth when reaching out her hand and Hannah stutters when greeting her; she is so pretty!

Hannah looks at Maria who shrugs her shoulders, saying she was just as surprised and Shin Min Ah gives a laugh.

“I wanted to meet my co-worker for the new drama,” she explains herself before showing the book, “and maybe get an autograph?”

“You have my book?” Hannah can’t help but to be surprised.

She maybe is a girl, but Hannah thinks Shin Min Ah is one of the most beautiful women on earth. She is an amazing actress and a beautiful model and that smile is really putting out the little fan in Hannah. She had almost forgotten that Shin Min Ah will be in the drama Hannah will start film in August, it just pops up in her head now when it is being mentioned, and Shin Min Ah has the book in her hands!

“I’m your fan,” Shin Min Ah laughs, unable to help herself because of Hannah’s surprise. She has actually read the first book, and Hannah is just so impressed to hear that a big actress like her is reading her book.

Hannah don’t think half of the people there has even read her first book, but she is happy there are so many there and she shakes Shin Min Ah’s hand three times, so impressed by her presence. The blonde girl manages to write her autograph in the book, writing a personal message to the actress as well.

And that is the beginning of the launch party.

Hannah laughs when embracing the co-star from her drama last year Midnight Dream, especially Hyejong who she got really close to on the set but the two girls haven’t gotten much time to meet, and Hyunsuk is just awkward because Maria is there and they aren’t filming for We Got Married but cameras filming for Life of Pieces are there. Hannah gets occupied to sign her book when getting the chance to talk to the members of SNSD. Seohyun has a photo shoot so she can’t come, but she had sent a text message to Hannah for all the best today. The girl gets to take a picture with everyone, almost as if they take pictures in proof of who attended. It is the agency that takes pictures of everyone, professional pictures of Hannah with every single person at the event – in group pictures or solos. She takes a picture with all five members of SNSD there, then one personal with Jessica; a picture with Julia and Infinite’s L is taken as well outside the group. Shindong and Kyuhyun are probably just there to show their faces, Carolina jokes about it and Hannah agrees because she is aware of that none of them care much about her books but they are all in to publicity.

Compared to others, Hannah drinks non-alcohol drinks during the late evening, but surprisingly she is having the best time ever. She isn’t the social type, but tonight she is talking to everyone; making jokes and laughing and doesn’t hesitate to stop someone to talk. Manager Lee feels like a behaviour analyst when spending so much time with her. This girl is out of the ordinary; she has no problem at all for the moment to be the centre of all attention, just because the reason everyone is gathered is for something she loves and something she knows she is good to talk about. The whole day Hannah hasn’t had anything against conversing and being the centre of attention; why? Because the attention is on her because of her book, she loves the attention they give to the book and for that handles to talk about it, sell it to whoever wants to listen. It is the same now at the launch party; Hannah has her business-personality out, talking and charming and being the perfect centre of attention.

For almost three hours they are there before they head home. Hannah washes up and sits down in the sofa with her members, all of them being lazy now when there are no cameras or people around them. And what Hannah does is to check online all kind of things about her book. During the day she had read reviews in the car from magazines and journalists about her book, one more judging than the other but all of them had good critics in them too. None of them put her in a bad mood, not even those writing that she is a clueless young girl who is talented as an artist but should stick to singing and dancing. Hannah doesn’t care because all the good comments she has received today is too good to be true for her.

“Listen to this one,” Hannah says to the ladies sitting there with her; “‘This book is thrilling and exciting and it is impossible to put it aside once you have started, it is a book you definitely must read. Crime, romance, action, thriller, fantasy – it has it all!’”

“I read a review where it stood that the first book is better than this one, but that you understand more in the second,” Carolina mentions, eating ice-cream with Michin drooling from Emelia’s lap. Julia is eating a carrot, leaning towards Hannah to see what she is looking at.

“‘Hannah writes in a way that makes you curious to know what happens next. Great book!’”

They laugh at Julia’s imitation of a man but quiets down when Julia raises her hand and says she has another one.

“‘Joe is back in the second book, ier and more mysterious than ever with hints of humour’ is how it begins like, continuing ‘The whole novel about JOE is once again starting a lot of subjects, many are talking about Hannah bringing up uality, lack of politics and that she is criticizing society in a way she through music is unable to do and for that is hiding her true meaning behind this novel. Fans of 5 Pieces will definitely read the book, the same way dedicated fans will take her words as the law – a lot of parents are saying the book is inappropriate for teenagers to read as it may put them in the wrong path while others are saying it is a book about respect, trusting yourself and in many ways bring in the straightforwardness that 5 Pieces is known to have’.”

“No matter what I do, 5 Pieces is brought up,” Hannah pouts. “I can’t come out with a fantasy novel without it has to do with politics and 5 Pieces?”

“You forget we are in Korea,” Emelia mumbles, trying to focus on the TV.

“Everything is overanalyzed here,” Maria adds, “beside, we all know you avoid to mention politics in the book because you know how people reacts to it, and now they complain you don’t have it? I love it though. We are straightforward people; Korea needs to know that it is nothing wrong with knowing what you stand for.”

Hannah leans her head back and pouts to her members, and then she turns back to the laptop to look through some other things about the book launch party and such. It makes her smile to read about the party; journalists are writing the most flattering things about her, saying she was the star of the day and she was breathtaking in the maxi dress.

She finds a good picture there of herself in the dress that she takes to twitter.

{Twitter, 5P_HANNAH: (picture) My day has been the best and tomorrow I will meet even more people that will make my heart flutter ^^,}

On Tuesday, Hannah spends the day travelling from book signings in Busan to book signings in Gwangju, meeting even more dedicated fans of her book. She has Ryo with her; the puppy has all her attention between the meetings and interviews, and she even takes a picture of her sitting down in her working outfit, giving a v-sign and holding the leash to the puppy handsomely sitting next to her.

The second picture is a sel-ca of Hannah holding Ryo close to her and in the background she is trying to capture fans who are waving goodbye to her after the event.

Coming home in the evening she goes on combat practice for the drama.

It’s Thursday, and Hannah’s good mood is still with her even if they have travelled on plane for 18 hours and on train for almost three hours before they arrive at their destination – Sundsvall, Sweden – 5 Pieces hometown.

You can’t compare the weather of the two different countries; the climate is too different. It isn’t as hot and the air isn’t as stuffy in Sweden, and you could almost say it is cold, beside from that the sun is really hot this summer. Hannah is wearing leggings and sneakers to a parrot-print sleeveless a-line dress in black (one of the latest outfits her stylist has bought for her), not forgetting to bring her faux-leather zip-up jacket along with her belted canvas backpack.

Arriving in the city, the girls notice right away that the music festival is in town. In such a small city, any big event is noticed and the yearly music festival taking place the first week of July is probably the biggest event in the city; Sweden’s most popular artists performs and people from the whole country tends to pass by for a day or two. It isn’t that there are a lot of people just where they are but there are a lot of cars driving inside the city, and even from the train station you can hear music playing from a distance – probably rehearsals, according to Emelia’s guess.

It is the first time Hannah feels happy to be back in town. She walks around with a smile, her arm linked with Julia. Not taking a car from the train station, the girls’ walks with their staff to go eat lunch. They are early and have half of the day to spend having fun. The only people with them are managers and bodyguards.

“Oh, it’s Subway!” Carolina bursts out and throws her whole arm with her finger pointing at the restaurant on the side of the street.

“They had a pizzeria here last time…” Maria seems disappointed, as she had the idea of eating pizza for lunch.

“Can’t we eat here?” Carolina smiles at them, like a child asking her parents for permission.

“I want Subway sandwich,” Julia agrees and starts to drag Hannah and Carolina with her before anyone has a say about it. Their managers definitely have no say in the decisions now; this is their town, 5 Pieces are in command. And it is a short visit; they don’t have to control what they eat all the time.

Hannah puts up the black pilot sunglasses on top of her head when looking at what to eat, standing in line after Julia. Though Maria wanted pizza, she is the first to decide what to take. Emelia is standing behind Hannah, telling the blonde girl what to take as she seem to know Hannah’s taste better than the youngest herself. Hannah gets her food and hurries after Julia with a giggle.

Since there are tables outside but no one is sitting there, they go outside to sit, all of them hurrying to take seats as it fit six people around each table and there are eleven of them.

“Only the popular ones sit around this table,” Carolina scoffs at the other table. Hannah looks up at her as if she is weird, sitting around the same table along with Julia, Manager Park and one of the bodyguards. Emelia and Maria are sitting by the other table with Manager Lim and the other three bodyguards.

“More likely the unpopular ones,” Emelia comments without a care.

Carolina makes a face at her. “We got the popular members right here,” she tells her.

“Just eat your lunch,” Maria mumbles with filled of food.

The girls all seem to be in a good mood, joking with each other even after spending such a long time travelling to get here. They aren’t exhausted surprisingly, just excited to be in their hometown over the day to work – they can’t imagine how much their agency had to be convinced to agree on letting them come here.

A crew from Life of Pieces went with them but they went straight to the hotel to check in and prepare to film, so when lunch is over they will get together to film 5 Pieces’ free-time.

“Smile, ladies!” Emelia’s voice is heard after half of the lunch and Hannah pulls down her sunglasses to cover her eyes, but she smiles when leaning a little towards Julia to pose for Emelia’s system camera that she has with a band around her neck. She wants to document their short trip.

Hannah continues to eat with the sunglasses resting at the tip of her nose, smiling when hearing the talk around the two tables.

“It’s always little people at this part of the city,” Julia tells Manager Park, talking about how they are sitting out in the open without anyone sneaking after them.

“It will be different on the main street though,” Emelia says, turning around in her seat, “it is a small city, so only the main street will be crowded. We are performing on the city square tonight, which we can show you later.”

Manager Lim looks up right away at her last words. “Do not expect you will be walking in the crowd; we are staying outside of the crowd to keep an eye on you.”

“Oh please, a crowd in Sundsvall is nothing from what you imagining,” Maria rolls her eyes, of garlic sauce from her hand. She really doesn’t look like a lady at the moment, but somehow manages to look stylish. Emelia snatches a picture of her eating this messy way. “You have seen the city square right? And there is a stage on it as well – a small one – but seriously, it isn’t much.”

“If we stay in the crowd, no one will recognize us either,” Julia adds. “It’s not like a bunch of our fans are walking around waiting for us exactly with this short notice.”

Hannah is done eating and finishes off by wiping her hands with wet wipes that she keeps in her bag, giving one to Julia first before closing her bag. She sits there and listens to them talking, being quiet and just enjoying the freedom of the fresh air and lack of people, the conversations between her friends. The bodyguards are Swedish, conversing with Manager Park in English while Manager Lim actually gets to use the Swedish he has learnt. The ladies forget they are Swedish at times as they mostly speak Korean and English, but it isn’t much of a big deal.

When lunch is over they are starting to walk again. They walk down the small streets that are empty of people, the filming crew joins up with them and the girls are deciding of where to go; the harbour, the main street and the river are some of the suggestions. Their first location is the harbour where Julia’s mother meets up with them, and they are just walking around, enjoying the sun and cool ocean wind blowing in. Hannah laughs when Emelia stops to take pictures for a second to put an arm around her friend, taking the other arm around Carolina as well and happily sing the Swedish children’s song [Fredriksson, the Teddy Bear]. How they started to sing just this song is a question-mark but the girls are laughing and singing it cheerfully. Hannah laughs the most as she doesn’t know the lyrics. Maria sings from in front of them, knowing the song the best. And behind them, Julia and her mother are waving their hands softly in the air, smiling with arms linked and looking really alike as mother and daughter. It is their own sing-along.

{Instagram, MARIA: Greetings from sunny Sweden! (video)}

The leader took a video of them singing. Hannah thought she was taking pictures, Emelia knew she was filming because of the way Maria sang along and Carolina noticed absolutely nothing. It is just a few seconds, but the video is hilarious for fans to watch.

Continuing the walk they are walking along the gravel pathway next to the river, coming closer to the city and they can see carousels on the other side of the river along with the city and the bus station and more. Now they can see there are a lot of people; even sitting on the grass on both sides of the river are people sitting and just enjoying the sun, all from teenagers sitting in groups to small families, couples and friends. Some are eating, some are working on their tan, some are just talking and many of them turn their heads around when spotting cameras filming around these girls who otherwise would melt in if it wasn’t for these cameras and the four big guys walking with them.

“Carolina says she can melt in anywhere,” Julia chuckles at what her friend have said.

“I can. Just give me some paint and I can make it work,” Carolina smiles, thinking she is clever for coming up with this.

“Or you can just put a plastic bag over your head,” Emelia comments, smirking when Carolina glares at her. They are always teasing each other.

Maria ignores the teasing and instead goes to an open space in the grass to sit down; always being the most comfortable and leading the way to where she wants to be, Hannah standing with Emelia hesitates a bit before everyone goes to sit down with her on the grass. They don’t all sit there for long; Emelia wants to go buy shoes, and to not have a bunch of people stalking her it is only Hannah among the ladies who comes along (Maria wants to be outside, otherwise if the weather was different she would not miss the chance to buy shoes) with cameras and two of the bodyguards.

Just because 5 Pieces is walking around without being followed by fans or approached by anyone (though at this time a lot are looking at them), the bodyguards doesn’t have such a difficult job and they don’t have to walk right next to the two girls who walks over the small bridge to the town’s shopping buildings to look around. Most of the things are what the girls are used to; they know where the shoe stores are, what kind of stores the building actually has so they know where to walk. It hasn’t been much of a change since they were here last time.

“Yong Oppa wanted to get me a pair of pumps, but you know… I have a little different style,” Emelia tells Hannah while looking at shoes. Hannah is following like a tail, not sure if she wants to buy anything and she nods visibly for Emelia to see. “Julia got them instead.”

The rapper is looking through the platform pumps, trying several of them and re-trying them when Hannah doesn’t say much. After spending ten minutes there and Hannah is about to go sit down with a yawn at how slow her friend is when her cell phone rings. With a smile she takes a few steps away, answering shyly in a low voice.

Am I good at timing this round?” the charming voice of Jonghyun asks her in the phone. The other day he had called four times during one day, and all times she had told him it was bad timing because she was busy; she had called him back once the schedule had ended.

“Very good timing, I’m looking for shoes with Emelia,” Hannah answers, looking down at her sneakers to compare them with a pair from the store. Hers doesn’t look that used. Emelia reacts when hearing her name, but she always seem to know who Hannah is talking to so she doesn’t mind to even look up. The youngest walks around on her own in the store, the cameras staying outside the store and with Emelia to let the blonde one get some privacy.

“What about this pair?” Emelia asks with her skinny ankle and pale foot showed in the black studded platform heel sandals, asking it when Hannah comes near to get her opinion.

Hannah shrugs her shoulders, keeping her eyes on the shoes and listens to Jonghyun talking on the phone. It is later in the evening in Korea, while here in Sweden it is in the afternoon. Her boyfriend seem to have a lot to talk about; talking about his days, some things that has happened and a silly thing he just laughs at and Hannah is just listening, giving comments and smiling.

Hannah has looked at the same pair of platform wedges on the shelf four times already before she tries them on – still on the phone with Jonghyun – and though they are really high, she ends up buying them because Emelia buys two pair and is ready to go back to the others.

They don’t have much time before they go to the hotel, filming there for Life of Pieces when fixing their make-up and hair, eating dinner and getting dressed before they are heading to the building that is used as a lounge for the guest artists – it is located right behind the stage they will perform at, very handy. It is actually the city hall, an old stone building with huge rooms and walls/ceilings filled with massive decorative paintings. It’s a beautiful place, even the furniture are old-fashionable; the whole building is old-fashionable and the five ladies are the first ten minutes occupied taking pictures of themselves with it as a background – that is when they have been lead inside the room that will be their dressing/waiting-room before.

The pictures are really fun. Maria stands next to the wall, posing wildly in front of it on her pictures. Carolina wants to pose with the crystal chandelier hanging down above the table, but she just looks weird. Hannah doesn’t want to be alone in her pictures, so when Julia has been posing in the dark-coloured sofa (also old-fashionable) and her mother has sat down with her for a picture as well, Julia waves for Hannah to come over and the two of them poses like an old couple in the sofa. All until the other ladies jumps over them, cheering and having fun in the pictures that suddenly have gotten out of hand but Emelia – the photographer – is having a blast.

5 Pieces is wearing individual but matching outfits for the event and the interviews they are now waiting to do. Maria is in a pretty and cool sleeveless printed panel dress, Julia is in a wolf-print ¾-sleeve t-shirt and black floral shorts, Hannah is in a tiger-print t-shirt and purple shorts, Emelia has a studded-skull fringed sleeveless top and multicoloured printed leggings, and Carolina is wearing a studded sequined t-shirt and plaid denim shorts in dark red and gray. Their wedge sneakers are the same though.

After being crazy for the pictures, the girls are being welcomed by the music festival manager who is a well-trained tiny woman in her late thirties. Hannah knows her; it is a small city and she remembers the little blonde woman, who works as a gymnastics teacher in her old high school, but she was teacher for another class and Hannah was barely there because of her Korean activities. She doesn’t bring it up and the woman doesn’t seem to recognize her, Hannah stays polite enough to shake the woman’s hand and let others do the talking.

“You have no idea of what a saviour you are by coming here,” the woman says after shaking their hands, she sounds relieved to have them there, professional as she for years have met worldwide known artists who they have invited to the music festival. “All of the tickets were sold out the moment it was confirmed 5 Pieces is coming; we even added more tickets for just today thanks to your popularity.”

The blonde girl bites her lip, not really sure it is because of 5 Pieces the tickets were sold out; people have a bad habit of exaggerate things. They go through information about the evening after that the woman has repeatedly said she is proud to have them there and forever thankful as well, and when she has left the girls are smiling at each other.

“People never used to be this polite to me,” Emelia jokes with a smile, going to take a seat. She means people in Sweden, for the past two times they have been in Sweden it has been a complete reverse of treatment just because they are 5 Pieces.

For the upcoming hour the girl-group are doing interviews for Swedish TV, newspapers, magazines and they are even taking pictures for the magazines of the girls lined up against a wall. The Swedish media want to know the reason 5 Pieces decided to come on such short notice, how it feels to be invited and to perform in their hometown and when they are planning to release something in Sweden or when they will come for a concert again. It is true when the girls say they have no plans to release or promote in Sweden at the moment as they will be busy with other things, but they do say that they are starting their world tour soon and hope to maybe come visit Sweden or at least Europe for it – nothing has been decided, but they are asked to come everywhere for the tour; SM need to decide where they will have time to come and where there are the most fans before deciding.

Like always, Hannah doesn’t say much in the interviews. She feel awkward talking in Swedish; it is never awkward to speak Swedish with her members, but once it is for an interview she just gets confused with the languages, which is why the other ladies get to do the talking. Hannah just nods and agrees to whatever they say.

Julia’s mother has been with them the whole time and is on the side with their manager for a start of the interviews, but when there is no end to it she waits for the current one to end before she tells the ladies good luck and walks outside to stand in the audience for the performance. Maria said her family is out there enjoying the festival as well – waiting to see the performance – and Emelia’s parents and aunt’s family are also there, drinking beer in a tent with view to the stage. What their families’ notices is the crowd. It has never been this many people crowding for a performance; half of the day fans have been waiting at the festival; just to make sure they will get a spot to see 5 Pieces. Emelia’s families are having fun chatting and drinking beer, listening to the good music while waiting. They had even seen people in the buildings around having the balconies filled with people; apartments where the owner could either bring in friends or even pay for strangers to use the balcony, as it gives you a very special location to see the stage.

And inside, 5 Pieces have wrapped up the interviews to prepare for the stage. They are warming up their voices while checking hair and make-up (because it is just one event so far away from Korea, the stylists didn’t come along so the girls do it all on their own) and also going through their stage together. Hannah sits down on a table, Emelia sitting on the chair right in front between her legs and Hannah has a towel resting on her legs to not ruin her outfit, helping to fix Emelia’s eyeliner; just a little bit.

“Remember the size of the stage, ladies; I don’t want anyone falling off,” Maria reminds them when she is fixing her hair in a high pony-tail.

“Ah, ah,” Hannah shortly warns Emelia when seeing the rapper about to come with a good comment on the reminder. Emelia stays quiet, letting Hannah focus on putting lip-gloss on her friend’s lips as a last touch.

Hannah jumps down from the table when she is done, applying lip-gloss on herself a little lightly before she feels she has done the last touch on herself as well and she goes to the corner to on her own stretch and prepare for the stage, calming herself through her own meditation. Her breath is slowing down when she is stretching and she is keeping her eyes closed most of the time to not focus on her surrounding but still knowing if anyone approaches her. Her mind has to get prepared for the stage; 5 Pieces’ Hannah, the youngest member and an idol.

Meanwhile, Emelia is grabbing a camera to film a little on her own.

“EM’s Sel-Ca,” she coolly says and turns the camera around to pass by Maria checking her bracelet and then focus on Julia who is sitting in the chair next to Carolina’s. “Oh, you look pretty.”

Julia looks up, smiling when noticing Emelia complimented her. She touches her hair lightly.

“The pixie cut,” Emelia mentions, stepping up closer to film only Julia. “Julia, where are we now?”

“We’re in our hometown,” she answers, blinking at Emelia while Carolina’s hand pops up to give the thumbs up. Both Emelia and Julia hit her hand away. Julia moves her head to be seen for the camera, not caring about Carolina who is slowly leaning closer to Julia to be seen. “Last year we were here with our concert; a lot of European fans came. But now we are here for a festival that is mostly for those around here.”

“How does that make you feel?” Carolina asks before Emelia has time to say something. Emelia takes a step back to film them both.

“It’s awkward to perform for people we grew up around,” Julia whispers to the camera, and she smiles when spotting Maria approaching behind Emelia. Hannah is putting away her things by now.

Carolina lifts her hand up. “Captain, tell us your thoughts about performing in Sweden.”

Maria comes to sit down in the middle on the armrest of the two chairs, having a serious face-expression but her body language is relaxed. “We were asked to talk about our experience performing in South Korea. I will quickly reveal that 5 Pieces started from scratch here in Sundsvall, with a negative reaction from those around us.”

“You look angry,” Emelia shortly comments on her face-expression.

“I’m ready to go on the stage. I’m prepared,” Maria answers, holding her expression with the others looking at her. Hannah is standing next to Emelia, watching from the side. “As the captain of 5 Pieces, I need to keep an eye on these kids. Who knows; Julia’s past boyfriend might be spotted in the audience. Will we have to kidnap him to get her to Korea with us?”

The girls are laughing at her sudden joke, making fun of Julia who laughs in surprise.

They are told when they have a few minutes left before they will have to go, and without being called on, Hannah walks up to Maria, just like the other ladies. 5 Pieces get together in a circle, putting out their hand on top of one another in the middle, and all of a sudden Hannah gets so nervous. It’s not a nervousness that she worries about but it is the nervousness of excitement to get to perform again, to be on stage with her best friends in a city they grew up and got to know each other in, a place where their families are in.

With a deep breath she keeps her eyes on their hands; Carolina’s hand at the bottom and Emelia’s on the top. Hannah looks at the wide bracelet Emelia has, golden brown nails and her always pale skin makes it impossible to think this hand belong to anyone else. Maria has the most tanned skin, and then it is Julia who somehow has gotten some colour on her skin from the sun as well. Hannah can’t see her own hand in the middle, but she feels Julia’s cold hand under hers and on top it is Emelia’s cold one. Hannah is the only one with a warm hand.

“Ladies…” Maria starts to say and Hannah looks up, meeting Maria’s smiling eyes and she can’t help but to smile back. It’s not about performing in their hometown, at the yearly festival they used to go to when they were younger. “My whole family is out there tonight, and I can’t wait to hug them when we are done with this stage.”

Hannah sees one of the camera-man for Life of Pieces walking around them, filming the ladies gathering their emotions before the stage.

“I know we aren’t really anyone in Sweden, but tonight we will show all our old classmates, neighbours and every other person out there no matter who they are that we are not strange without reason – we will make them know nothing is impossible.”

“Yeah!” Emelia excitedly shouts out with a low voice. Hannah gives a giggle, realising she can’t stop smiling.

“Now let’s go out there and do what we are known for doing! Who are we?!” Maria calls out loudly.

“5 Pieces!” they cheer, still with the hands in the middle but Hannah can feel the blood rushing faster now at the cheer, how she is preparing herself for it.

“Who are we, ladies?!” Maria calls out louder, sounding like she was disappointed at the first answer.

“5 PIECES!” they shout out together and their hands fly up in the air.

Hannah laughs when Carolina is running to the door, all excited and prepared for the stage now after their cheer. Hannah can almost hear the echo of their music they will perform tonight in her head when they are being lead through the building and out behind the stage.

Out in the fresh evening air of Sweden, Hannah tugs in the front of her t-shirt in her shorts, just to not have the t-shirt cover the shorts completely. They stop just a few meters away from the door they just came out from, guards and police covering the sides with the black cover of the stage in front of them. It’s no one performing on the stage at the moment, but a DJ is playing music for entertaining and you can seriously hear the crowd on the other side though the music is so loud. Everyone seems pumped up for the night. Hannah has only been at the music festival one time around this hour before so she is surprised over the loud sound from everything. In the days it is much calmer; families enjoying the festival and kids running around. Now, she definitely does not think children are running around on the main street.

“Don’t forget it’s the English versions,” Carolina mentions to the girls, having to repeat it louder as they don’t all hear what she says in the noisy surrounding, “I keep thinking of the Korean version.”

Maria is helping Hannah to make her t-shirt tugged in the shorts look good, leaning back to look at it before giving the thumbs up. Hannah can’t help but to have her innocent expressionless face when looking at the serious Maria. Cameras are still around them, to film backstage and from the side during the performance, capturing the girls waiting to get up on the stage. Maria touches Hannah’s arm to try calming them both from nervousness before she turns around to face the front, them getting in a line to get up on the stage. Manager Lim is wishing them good luck and Carolina is waving to the camera filming her, doing “fighting” with her hand.

And then it comes. The DJ’s music gets lower and lower before it stops so someone can talk in a microphone and be heard.

“It is finally time for what all of you have been waiting for!” the voice calls out in the microphone, a woman.

Hannah smiles when Maria turns around to look at the ladies; the audience started to cheer. No, not just cheer, they started to chant, just getting louder and louder calling out “5 Pieces! 5 Pieces! 5 Pieces!”
