Chapter 70

Youngest of Pieces: [WHO- I AM] (8)

Early Wednesday morning the cameras filming for Life of Pieces and for making of meets 5 Pieces on the set for [WHO-I AM] music video. The set is made to look like some kind of warehouse, with warehouse fence and a very charismatic light. It is perfect for the music video they will film.

Dressed in the same kind of black military pants, tank tops with their BLACK & WHITE concert logo and a ripped black jacket, each member of 5 Pieces look completely different from each other. Clothes are the same but their hair and make-up is different. Maria and Emelia seem to be competing with who has the longest hair; Maria’s is long and blonde, straight from beginning to end while Emelia’s is black with hints of brown, wavy and for once they have made her hair thicker, which is new for Emelia’s thin hair but it looks really cool. Julia is still in control of the best hairstyle with her short spiky pixie cut in golden brown and blonde tops and Carolina has put extensions in her shoulder-long dark brown hair, getting it just a little longer with a straight cut fringe that she never can stop touching. For Hannah, she has her long dirty blonde hair with long loose natural-looking waves. In fact it is hairstyles they all had for their BLACK & WHITE concert posters, but the rest of the style is for [WHO-I AM].

The five ladies are standing on the set where they will film, going through the choreography together with their teacher Shim Jae Young. It is dark in there, with the spotlights having a soft light to get the right feeling and with five tired girls warming up and getting ready for the morning’s first filming.

Maria walks up to a camera filming for Life of Pieces standing next to the crew; she looks awesome in the outfit and make-up and she smiles with a bright smile.

“We are filming the music video for … [WHO- I AM]. We are keeping this fighter-concept from our third album to match the concept for the concert as well – which is why we have these clothes,” Maria says and shows the logo on her outfits, “and… we are soon starting the filming.”

She then gets quiet, looking like she is getting angry; just because she can see through the camera that Julia and Carolina are several meters behind her, waving and moving around for the camera.

“They don’t fit the concept,” Maria mutters as a comment at the two fools behind her, and she rolls her eyes when turning around, walking away from the camera to tell the two girls that they should continue practice the choreography along with Hannah standing next to them with their teacher. Emelia is practicing on her own in a corner, not caring about anyone else. As a response to Maria’s words, Julia starts to dance from the chorus, looking like she is threatening someone with her squirrel movements. Carolina makes her stop, saying she is doing it wrong.

“You can’t tell me two minutes before we are shooting that I am doing it all wrong!” Julia bursts out when Carolina offers her help.

“Julia,” their teacher’s voice is heard from Hannah’s side and the two girls nagging at each other walks over to him, nagging at each other before getting to practice the choreography again just because he heard them say they did it wrong.

The girls go through parts of the dance one last time before they start filming the dance scene. It is a cool song, having more of a hip hop style than what they usually do but the choreography is really good, it is actually fun to do some parts as they listen to the lyrics and dances and they really need to get the right feeling and expression for the video. So when they have filmed it the first time, the ladies goes to monitor. Hannah is standing there with her fingers on her lip, eyes on the monitor and listening to the comments the ladies give each other and the director saying it too. She is serious and focused and she is her own worst judge. Only once she says something, reaching her hand out to point at the part where Carolina is in front of her during the dance, mentioning that she freaks out every time at that point because Carolina almost hits her in the face.

Hannah takes a deep breath when they walk over to do the dance one more time; she stretches her hands up in the air, waving to the ceiling and she smiles when Maria turns around in front of her. The youngest takes down her hands right away when Maria has turned around, the youngest wanting to walk around Maria to take her position but stops when Maria touches her hair.

“Do you think I would look good in these kinds of locks?” Maria wonders, totally mesmerized by Hannah’s hair. Distraction makes them not repeatedly think of their mistakes in the filming, it makes them actually focus better once they will start filming again.

“You should let Mi Young Unnie try it on you,” Hannah answers. Their female stylist is great when it comes to give the ladies a good hairstyle. Hannah really likes the way their stylist makes her hair wavy; it seems natural and looks really beautiful, and best thing is that she uses a hair product so it stays that way for long. Mi Young is a great woman.

“We’ll take it from the beginning,” the music video director’s voice is echoing through the megaphone and the girls give out a shout to show they heard, and they take their positions to take it from the beginning anew.

Starting out the filming while still being tired, the girls are clearly awake after the second time going through the choreography, but after repeating it for the filming several of times, the making of cameras captures the ladies resting for a few minutes. Hannah has sat down in the middle of the set; when they said they will take a few minutes rest, she just sat down. She is controlling her breath and pressing her fingers in her legs, glancing around at the others so when a camera-man walks up to her she gives a smile. Always smile.

“Is it tiring?” he asks her.

“No. I didn’t warm up correctly so my legs are hurting a bit,” Hannah answers, giving a cute pout. “I was too lazy…”

She holds her head up when Mi Young steps up to her, and the youngest closes her eyes to get a touch on her make-up, and on command from the stylist she pulls down the jacket over her arms as it apparently makes her sweat. The camera-man moves over to Maria instead and Mi Young can talk to Hannah without any extra eyes on them.

“Your cell phone keeps vibrating,” Mi Young says in a low voice, handing the cell phone to Hannah who smiles widely and looks down. Mi Young is in charge of Hannah’s cell phone after that the youngest asked her, just because the stylist will be nearby the whole day and Hannah is in big need of her cell phone.

“Jonghyun really finds the worst times to call me,” Hannah whispers to the stylist, but she keeps smiling.

“He is busy,” Mi Young says and touches Hannah’s chin to get her to look up again. “Though I think he should text you instead; it’s easier to just answer whenever you can.”

Hannah doesn’t say that Jonghyun calls first but when she doesn’t answer he will send a text message, to ask how she is doing and if she misses him and when she can, she will answer. Whenever Hannah tries to contact Jonghyun, she does it with a text message right away, aware of that her boyfriend is a busy young man. She sees that someone else has called her too, and left a voice-message.

“What is it about?” Mi Young asks when Hannah gives a sigh after listening to the message.

“It’s about the book,” Hannah mumbles, “could you remind me to make a call later when I have the time?”

“Of course,” Mi Young answers and gets the cell phone that she puts in her pocket, being done with Hannah as they are preparing to film the dance scene one more time.

In the middle of the dance, Julia suddenly falls down on her heels, covering her face and the staff cuts off the music right away and everyone is asking what is going on.

“I poked my eye…” Julia whines. Emelia rolls her eyes and Hannah giggles, all of them breathing out as it is nothing serious and they can go back to filming over again. Carolina still pats Julia on her back when they take their positions.

The next time the camera for Life of Pieces captures Hannah in a solo shot is when they have changed clothes, but they are with the same background, and Hannah is spacing out, just standing there and looking like she is close to falling asleep. The reason she can barely keep her eyes open is because of the medicine; it always makes her tired when she takes them in the mornings, but when she takes them in the late evening (if she isn’t working) it is alright as she is going to bed at that time. Hannah tries to keep her eyes open but because no one is telling her to prepare to film again or anything, she thinks maybe she can close her eyes for a few seconds. She stands with her arms crossed over her chest, her eyes light closed so she can sneak a peek at Julia when the friend stands a few meters in front of Hannah, talking to others and fooling around.

When she is about to yawn, Hannah glances around (aware of that she isn’t pretty when she yawns) and it is a good thing she did that because she then notices the camera filming far from the side. Hannah automatically turns to the other side to yawn.

She can’t stop thinking about that she has to call the woman who had left a voice-message on her cell phone earlier. The woman has helped out with Hannah’s book, fixing interviews, meetings, appearances and simply being Hannah’s book manager. In the voice-message she had just asked Hannah to give her a call when she has the time, saying they need to talk about some interviews and appearances that have popped up.

With a pout she walks up to Maria, not hugging her friend’s arm because it is quite warm but easily resting her forehead on her friend’s shoulder.

“It’s sick how tired you get by the medicine after two years,” Maria changes the subject when noticing Hannah’s behaviour. “Can’t you change them?”

“They are the strong ones working,” Hannah says in broken Korean.

“Maybe I should talk to your doctor,” Maria mentions. Hannah doesn’t mind commenting on that, aware of that Maria talks a lot, but she doesn’t get anywhere further.

Hannah walks to the back, dancing a little on her own to not fall asleep standing and when the director calls for everyone they will begin to film again she feels thankful for that she is still awake.

Half an hour later she is more awake, and she is in the dressing-room with her cell phone by her ear, talking about her book. Cameras around her for Life of Pieces are busy capturing 5 Pieces during the break and Hannah don’t look up in hope no camera will focus on her. It’s good that a loud Carolina is occupying the cameras with her ‘break time TV interview’-sketch where she is using a hairbrush as a microphone.

“Hello, yo, wazzup!” she starts off loudly to the camera, “I’m today’s special mascot interviewer for MTV’s … Wazzup TV! We are now viewing the hottest girl-group who are heating up the summer with their second tour BLACK & WHITE at their video filming! whaaaa~”

Carolina is used to be a radio host and for that is a very good speaker and she knows how to be entertaining. She even makes her own crowd-cheer with a low ‘whaa’ and her hands waving excitedly by herself with Julia spotted talking and eating in the background.

Hannah covers her ear to hear the one she is talking to on the cell phone.

“I have to check that,” Hannah says in her business-mood when going through her calendar and papers for the book promotions. “Have you talked to Ji Young about it? I don’t have a schedule that day, but we are practicing for the concert…”

The woman had apparently talked to Hannah’s manager of filling out the schedule with a day in Daegu, as she had a lot of requests to go there to promote the book, but her manager had said that the schedule is free so Hannah is the one making the decision. It isn’t like when she is promoting a song or with 5 Pieces; there they are told what to do all the time. With the book, Hannah is the one making the decisions on how much she will promote. At first it was decided she will promote the Korean version in Seoul, Busan and Gwangju – the three biggest cities – and it would just be for two days because Hannah wants to focus on their BLACK & WHITE concert practices. Now, she is asked if she would want to have a book signing in Daegu next Sunday, both media and fans wants here there.

“No, I have nothing against going there,” Hannah is still on the phone. Julia moves in a bad imitation, just to show for the cameras that Hannah is working extra when they are working. “Yes, okay, if my manager agrees on it, then I’m in. Okay. Was it anything else? … Uh-ha…  I agreed on doing it for three hour because I will have to get some sleep in between, we talked about that…”

Hannah turns around as she has been leaning over the table to scribble down the new things they decide, now looking after Manager Lim who comes over when noticing she wants to talk to him.

“I’m doing the midnight event on Monday morning, could I do it for four hours instead of three?” Hannah asks him, holding the bottom of the cell phone against her neck, speaking a little lower but her eyes are big and focused on her manager, seeing how he grimaces at her question.

“Can you take four hours?”

“I don’t know,” Hannah grimaces back, shrugging her shoulders.

“Do three hour!” Maria shouts from behind, pointing a gangster arm at Hannah while holding a Clementine in her other hand. “Don’t overdo it.”

“But I don’t have anything until nine after that,” Hannah tells to their leader who is sitting across the room. Hannah then tells on the phone that she will have to talk to her crew about it first, and when hanging up she continues to talk to her manager and Maria. She gives Manager Lee a call a minute later too, stepping outside just to talk without any cameras around her and because the ladies are loud.

When she comes back, Maria is still sitting down, eating another Clementine.

“How did it end up like?” the leader is curious to know.

“3 hours, 35 minutes,” Hannah answers, giving her cell phone to her stylist again, taking away her schedule to not loose it. “And I’ll have to sign 250 books the day before.”

Maria makes a sour face-expression, imagining having to sign 250 books and then at midnight have to sign more and spend two days doing it… But that is what it is when you release something new. She gives Hannah a Clementine to comfort her for the schedule.

They then head back out to film. For today and tomorrow they will film the music video as well as some of the VCR for the concert, entertaining cameras filming behind the scenes and doing their best on screen. For their Life of Pieces cameras, Julia makes even a pout when saying her hair is not staying as it should and Emelia another time takes a deep breath when passing by to say it’s hard.

Hannah and Julia comes hurrying up to the camera, laughing; Hannah thinks it is for their reality show.

“Carolina think she is the best dancer,” Julia is laughing and both girls’ starts to move their heads really strangely, but they do the same thing. “She keeps dancing like this. Whenever … whenever they tell us to focus more on the dance, she does that. She is weird!”

“We have this part with chairs,” Hannah explains when they have calmed down from laughing, “And we are sitting in a circle, all nodding our heads; and Carolina looks really fun when she does it.”

The cameras, no matter if they are for Life of Pieces or for some making of, they mostly captures 5 Pieces practicing between the filming. Rather than just fooling around, telling jokes or complaining about each other, 5 Pieces are actually practicing almost nonstop. None of them realises it until their manager tells them to focus a little more on the entertaining part too, and not until then the ladies realises that they are too unsure about the choreography for [WHO-I AM] to focus on other things now when they are filming the music video because … they are filming the music video! If they don’t do well it will be seen for all eternity, and they definitely don’t want that. Even their choreographer teacher tells them to just relax and do what they have practiced, because once they start over-thinking about the dance when filming they make mistakes.

It is a long filming.

“Did you all see the documentary?” Manager Lim asks on Friday morning when 5 Pieces is warming up in the practice-room for their concert practice.

“That was like two days ago,” Emelia answers, as if it is old news.

Hannah had seen clips of it, the American documentary about 5 Pieces and their BAD GIRLS tour in Japan, and she was amazed by how great they made the girl-group seem like while for some parts she is disappointed they had to show, giving a bad image to the Korean music industry. The comments about the show, the reviews, were really good though, and 5 Pieces surely got more attention in America as well; the other day the girls heard statistic and more about how much their music had been listened to in America after the documentary compared to before.

“They aired it in Sweden too, my mom saw it,” Carolina comments.

“Sweden is going to air a Swedish version with other clips, not as long,” Manager Lim informs them. Hannah remembers that there was a Swedish camera team filming around that time, but she hasn’t heard anything about it since. Now it seems like it will air. Carolina is curious about the details, as she wants her family to watch it.

“Are we even going to plan what songs we will perform at the music festival?”

Hannah’s attention is grabbed by that question that Julia asks. Music festival – a yearly Swedish music festival in their hometown has for months been begging 5 Pieces to please come perform for an evening. The festival is going on the first week of July, and now SM Entertainment has agreed to let 5 Pieces perform for half an hour on Thursday night.

“It’s obvious what songs we’ll perform,” Maria rolls her eyes at her, “duh girl.”

“We are performing for half an hour…”

“Ten minutes talk, twenty minutes performing,” Emelia explains with a shrug on the shoulder, as the girls are much used to events.

“[Black & White] is … what? Almost four minutes; then we have [Daze], three minutes. [Take the Key] is four and [One and Only] is three,” Julia is counting up their English songs.

“14 minutes,” Emelia adds the minutes in her head and Maria sighs.

“What more songs do we have then?” the leader sounds annoyed.

“It would be fun if we sang in Korean,” Emelia smirks, getting this evil look from where she is sitting, “Could you imagine the crowd’s reaction if they don’t get what we are singing? And we are just charismatically performing so they still can’t help but to like it.”

Hannah smiles when seeing Maria roll her eyes again, but grimaces then when Carolina thinks they should only sing Korean songs – as their best songs are in Korean.

“That’s not going to happen – [Daze] is our best song, and the Swedish crowd knows the English version.”

“I think you should take the songs you have in English,” their manager suggests.

“[Original] could be useful to sing,” Emelia mentions, “as our Korean song. It is the best song in my opinion, easy to follow and all our fans love it.”

“Shouldn’t we perform [Run Out]?” Maria gets confused all of a sudden, “It is Japanese but they play it in Sweden, don’t they?”

“Right…”

“Why do we have so many songs?” Julia whines.

After spending two days filming for their concert, the girls are in the practice-room; they are supposed to practice for their concert but now they are distracted by their music festival appearance. Only for a while though. They can decide songs later; now, they need to practice for the concert, their second concert tour BLACK & WHITE. But they are far from having the energy to do well practicing, messing up and changing too many ideas that this version is good while that version is just as good so they try to mix both versions but fails to get it better and it is a complete mess. They are exhausted for so many reasons; their schedule, yesterday’s filming was tiring, the schedule that will come makes them exhausted too, knowing they will be in Sweden for just a day or two before they will come back to practice and practice and practice. Hannah keeps getting calls and being talked about the book that is being published now on Monday and Julia is still promoting her solo single so she has performances and interviews, and the girls are just clueless when it comes to their concert. About their concert, the girls feel they have a lot to do and the first concert is in just 22 days! And today is the first day actually practicing for the concert.

During earlier meetings about the concert they have decided what songs to have, getting ideas and such, knowing how the stage will look like, what order the songs will be played, even setting different acts in the concert for concepts and such, but today more questions occur when they start practicing.

“We can’t make it too different though, with the remixes,” Maria comments, sitting in the middle of the room on the floor with a paper in her hand and she looks up at the choreographers Kim Ji Hwa and Shim Jae Young as well as the other ladies in the room. “Are we doing the first remix of [Daze] in the beginning or will we have a mix of the first and second remix?”

“We are thinking of just doing the first remix, the way we planned, as it will be too much of a remix otherwise and [Daze] is already loved for the way it is… But the second remix is really good, so the company says we might take that as an extra encore or something; you know, like you did at the arena tour,” the female choreographer Ji Hwa answers. She has been working with 5 Pieces the most and the longest and she helped out for the Japanese Arena Tour as well.

“To have it on just some concerts?” Emelia asks.

“Exactly.”

Hannah looks at the remix lyrics they have for [Daze], the one they are talking about. She looks up when Ji Hwa whispers the beginning of the song they are talking about, moving swiftly before turning around, imagining 5 Pieces dancing this.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we just took the version from the arena tour?” Julia wonders. “It’s a great remix, everyone agrees on it, and it means we don’t have to learn another version.”

“But this version fits the scene,” Maria answers. “Otherwise we will have to disappear after finishing performing [Black & White] and pop up a little here and there. And it will still have to be some kind of remix in the beginning there then.”

“I think we’ll do as we have said, its better,” Hannah gives her opinion too.

“Can you hit that note then?” Emelia chuckles with a nod at Hannah. Hannah smiles, biting her lip as she knows that light tone she is supposed to take in this remix she is suggesting is difficult. Actually, Hannah has no problem at all taking that tone, she finds that tone much easier than the one Maria takes right before and the one Carolina takes right after, just because it is super light.

The remix was already done before they came to the practice-room, all they need to do is a choreography fitting it and to learn it.

That is one song that they are used with, with a different remix though, but there are so many more songs they need to learn and practice. New songs, old songs, remixes, lyrics and vocals and movements, decisions being said and thrown back and forth in hope to get the best concert.

After spending the day practicing for the concert, not in the mood for anything because it is a pain to have so many different people giving their opinions about just one song, Hannah has a two-hour combat practice that surely goes well but she definitely is still not in the mood of working. She is tired thinking about their concert, though it is only the beginning, but she is tired because with too many opinions she doesn’t know how they will make this the best concert of 5 Pieces; half of the day has just been spent arguing about the songs.

Without a sound, Hannah comes back to the apartment, walking straight up to her bedroom and yawning three times on the way.

“Hannah,” Maria pops up her head by Hannah’s door. “They have been here with things for the offices or whatever we should call it. Thought you might want to know before Carolina takes it all.”

“Okay.”

Maria leaves after having that said, and Hannah sighs when falling down on her bed tiredly. Her eyes are closed right away. The bed is tempting. But she sighs again as she gets up, knowing she will fall asleep if she stays in bed so she takes a quick shower before she heads downstairs to look inside the offices. Two of the rooms downstairs will be used as offices for the girls; Hannah and Carolina in one room while the other three are in the bigger one. And what kind of office could it be?

In Hannah’s room it is two L-shaped desks next to each other along one wall, having the end of one of the desks pointing out in the middle of the room. Carolina has taken control over the one in the other half of the room from the door, already having her two guitars in the corner next too and she is sitting on a chair, fixing with equipment on her desk. She is a music maker, Hannah thinks before looking at the desk closest to the door: Hannah’s desk. There is a bunch of books, a computer and more on the table, just a pile of things. Hannah glances around.

“Maria said there had arrived new things,” Hannah comments when only seeing the things that were there when she left this morning.

“I got a new keyboard,” Carolina shines up and points at the keyboard-box standing next to her guitars.

“Oh…” Hannah pouts and sits down by her table, right in front of the door. She pouts at her things, sorting out the books to begin with, glancing at Carolina once in a while. Carolina puts on some self-made music that she has on the music-making equipment on her desk. It is different from Hannah’s desk; Carolina has her half of the room looking like a music producer while Hannah’s (if she will fix it a bit) will look like a writer’s place. Hannah has books, writing pads, notes, she has one computer and up in her room she has a laptop too; she has things only about writing. Though it is not just about writing novels, she write lyrics as well though she isn’t much of a producer wanna-be like Carolina.

“SBS called me before,” Carolina is mentioning, “and they haven’t everything cleared for the song I should write for them, but they said it will come in July month; it has to be done before mid-August.”

“We’ll start filming in mid-August, but the drama won’t air until September,” Hannah says, “so it is no hurry at all. But you want to do it, right?”

Carolina nods eagerly. “I have made two demos already based on what you have told me about the drama, and I can’t wait to hear what song I should write because I have so many ideas about it.” Carolina keeps talking about the songs she has written, even playing some of the songs she has on her computer; songs she has made on her own using the guitar or piano. All songs she writes are in English too, from beginning to end. Hannah ends up resting her head on the pile of books to listen to Carolina talking about music and showing different songs she has made. Most of them she plays up are with a guitar, having the same style in them, but for the first time Hannah realises how much time Carolina must spend on this. Hannah knows her friend loves to produce music on her own, wanting to try producing music for 5 Pieces too (which she has gotten to try before!), and she knows that Carolina’s passion for this is comparable to Hannah’s passion for writing. They are both geeks, no matter how much they compare, talk, laugh or work; they will always be geeks and they don’t care even if they know about it – being geeks is not a bad thing.

Hannah keeps her head on the books when looking through some notes. She has a bunch of loose notes in one writing pad, a collection of things she has written down in sudden moments when she has come up with something, and she looks through them, crossing some to know what has been used, what is a waste and what she doesn’t think is good anymore. Other things she puts in a new pile to remind herself to look through them next time she writes.

All of a sudden it is after midnight. Hannah is so tired but she has her computer to see what programs it has, already working on going through some new mails and some more notes. Carolina seems like she isn’t going to bed yet either, but then Hannah is reminded of that Hannah has a gym visit in the morning, while Carolina can sleep out. Remembering that, Hannah stays up for half an hour more before she drinks some water and goes to bed, stretching and doing her exercise moves in her bedroom before lying down.

She lies down flat on her stomach in the bed under the sheets, feeling dead both mentally and physically. She hugs her two pillows under her head, yawning and with one hand she is hugging her cell phone. Even when she was in the office she had brought her cell phone with her; she isn’t going anywhere without it. Every other hour she is texting Jonghyun, wishing him good luck on his concert in Japan tonight, having him answer of course before she text another one. He gave her a text message when the concert had ended, gave her his comment about it too. Hannah doesn’t know why she is hugging the cell phone now though, as she has already texted him goodnight.

With a sigh she puts away her cell phone. She misses him…

Tomorrow, Hannah will go to the gym with trainer Park Hyun and she will practice for the concert. In her mind now when trying to fall asleep she thinks about her schedule, knowing she will get sad thinking about Jonghyun and then she doesn’t know what else to think about. It is then the last day of the month, the day where she will also practice for the concert, she will try out clothes for her book promotions and she will finally see the complete book for the first time. She looks forward to that. No matter how tiring the concert preparations will be, she will have her book fantasy to turn to. Again she worries about people’s reactions to it; will they like the follow-up book about JOE? For how many weeks and months has she been asking her the same questions, worrying about her book being published? She won’t have to worry about these questions for long now when the book finally comes out. She just hopes the reaction will be good, that people will like her book.

Hannah falls asleep after spending a long worrying about her book, feeling that she doesn’t want morning to come because she is so tired that she just wants to sleep. Sleeping is a blessing, always when falling asleep you just know that you will feel better when waking up. Hannah looks forward to wake up and be in a better mood than how she was today.

On the bedside table, her cell phone starts to vibrate and play a melody that wakes Hannah up abruptly. It’s her ringtone; a tone that wakes her up just as suddenly like her alarm would wake her up. Without even realizing what she is doing, Hannah stretches out for the cell phone, glancing on the display without answering, not feeling awake so she doesn’t recall whose name it stood on the display when answering.

“Mm,” she makes a sound without opening , even her eyes are closed now when she has found the cell phone and she falls down on her pillow, maybe she will fall asleep again.

Did I wake you up?

The low delicate voice makes her smile and Hannah puts her hand in her face to try wake up. “Mm,” is all she can answer him, though she is close to giggling just by the sound of his voice. It has gotten easier to breathe now.

You want me to call you back in the morning, let you sleep a little?” Jonghyun suggest with amusement in his voice and she get the image of him walking back and forth, holding the cell phone to his ear and smiling because his girlfriend is half-asleep.

“No,” Hannah answers fast. She sits up in hope to get clear in her head. “What are you doing?”

Right at the moment I am missing my girlfriend.” He sounds happy, and she can’t stop smiling at his words. Hannah lies back down in her bed, keeping her eyes closed but loving the sound of his voice. “And now we are on our way to the dorm to sleep, to rest before tomorrow’s concert… Have you been sleeping for long?

She takes a glance at her cell phone to see what time it is, surprised that she has been asleep for two hours already. “No,” she lies, not wanting him to feel bad for waking her up; and she actually could skip sleep to talk to him.

How was your day then?” Jonghyun asks. Her answers are so short and he called just to hear her voice. His fatigue from SHINee’s schedule is disappearing by her voice.

Hannah breathes in by the question, trying to remember how her day has been like and she frowns when she isn’t sure if it was this day or the other day she watched the last episode of Kyung Ho’s drama. Was it this day or the other she was at the combat practice? She can’t remember. “It was tiring,” she starts to answer, remembering clearly how they have been in the practice-room. “We have been practicing for the concert today; that was tiring.”

You sound tired.” He chuckles more at her voice than her words, as she says her day was tiring and she sounds really tired.

“I was sleeping, Jonghyun, before you called,” Hannah whispers and she giggles when he sounds hurt. “You knew I was sleeping when you called so accept that I’m tired.”

You still want to talk to me, I know that,” Jonghyun’s voice gets this low flirty again, this time she doesn’t hold back to giggle and that makes him smile widely. “I love that sound.

Hannah laughs against her pillow. “You’re so weird,” she smiles.

“Good morning,” Julia smiles when Hannah comes to the kitchen in the morning. Hannah mumbles to answer, tired even if she has been awake for a while and she walks up to the fridge with tired eyes to take out the yogurt and two out of three small food storage containers of fresh berries. She puts it down on the counter, stretching up to take out a bowl and then goes to take out a spoon that she puts in while preparing the breakfast in the bowl.

Julia is sitting around the kitchen table, eating her own breakfast of toast and coffee and looking through the news on her cell phone. She has a pre-recording to do now in the morning for Music Core so she is already dressed and ready to leave, just waiting for the clock to tick so she can head off to the salon to get her transformation. Julia loves to be a solo artist, as during the schedule like today she can use her own car to drive back and forth. Every chance to use her car is a chance she will not think twice about and she personally asked her managers to be able to get to the music station with her own car today, having the manager waiting for her there.

While Julia is finishing her breakfast, Hannah takes a seat with the bowl of yoghurt, cereals, sliced raspberries and blueberries and starts eating slowly, just having to wait for her manager to come. She left her bag by the hall when coming down the stairs; she is dressed and ready to go to the gym though she knows she is going to drop by their stylist to try some clothes.

She doesn’t see that Julia smiles up at her, neither that Julia can’t stop smiling when looking back down at her cell phone lying on the table, scrolling up on the page with a finger.

“‘SHINee Jonghyun Tweets His Love To Girlfriend Hannah’,” Julia reads out with that smile and looks up at Hannah to see the reaction. She did think Hannah had no idea about it, but Hannah lowers her head shyly, blushing as well. “You knew about it already?”

“I saw the tweet,” Hannah giggles and looks up at Julia.

“Well, here it is an article about it,” Julia informs her and looks down at her cell phone to read; “‘The dream idol couple Jonghyun and Hannah are becoming a hot topic over the summer. First they went on a sweet date together, going to watch a movie, and now SHINee’s Jonghyun uses twitter to apologize to his girlfriend 5 Pieces’ Hannah for calling her late at night’. What did he write? Because the translations here ”

“Something like … it isn’t a secret I like you a lot, sorry for calling you late just to hear your voice,” Hannah giggles shyly, “and he also ended with I like you! It was the first thing I saw when I woke up.”

Julia can not stop smiling. “He called you last night?”

“Actually, he called me this morning,” Hannah answers while filling her spoon with a berry and some yogurt; “early in the morning – he woke me up.”

“That’s why he apologized… … So … he apologized about it on twitter because…?”

Hannah just shrugs her shoulders for answer, trying to focus on her breakfast; she is shy about this conversation. She can’t really understand why he had to write it on twitter, and since it was only on twitter she hasn’t written anything back to him – neither is she thinking of doing so as her boyfriend can communicate with her in a more personal way.

“When are you leaving?” Julia asks when she is putting away her dishes, still giving small smiles by Jonghyun asking for attention.

She shrugs her shoulders again for answers, but Julia is standing with her back towards her. “I don’t know, Oppa will be here soon. What about you?”

“I’m going now,” Julia answers and takes her bag from the chair by the table before heading out the kitchen. “Wish me good luck today.”

“Good luck!” Hannah calls after her. “And drive carefully!”

“Always!”

Hannah keeps eating her breakfast but before she is done she receives a text from her manager, writing that she can come downstairs now as he is a few minutes away so the girl stops eating, puts one strawberry milk in her bag and she uses the bathroom before patting Michin and she leaves the apartment without another sound. The other ladies are still asleep.

“Good morning,” Hannah says when getting in the van driven by Manager Lee.

“Good morning, Hannah,” he greets her back and waits until she has sat down before he drives off. “Have you contacted Yong Hyun so he knows we are coming?”

Hannah looks up at her manager with an expressionless look, and he sighs, asking if he should do it but she shakes her head with her cell phone in her hand, going to text the stylist. When she is done texting, she looks out the window. It’s not raining today.

“Everyone’s talking about Yong Hyun dating someone,” Manager Lee brings up. His comment makes her smile, because he never seems to talk with or about the stylist as far as Hannah knows. He is also curious about it.

“You can ask him when we meet him,” Hannah jokes with him, smiling when her manager glances at her. He doesn’t want to ask him personally. “According to what I heard, he met him yesterday too.”

“So he likes this … person?”

Hannah bites her lip, not smiling over the question anymore. Their stylist is gay, and for the ladies it is nothing they care about but not everyone have the same opinion about it. Hannah is very naïve so she thinks some people doesn’t like other people, she has never thought that her manager has something against homouality but this question now… The way he asked it, as if it is something wrong. Not knowing what to say she gives a mumble before she turns up the volume on the stereo.

It gets awkward after his question. Hannah doesn’t want to talk and Manager Lee doesn’t attempt more tries now when noticing her mood changed.

Stylist Yong Hyun lives above a garage that he uses as 5 Pieces’ clothing storage, where he makes their stage clothes and keeps their fancy clothes, shoes and accessories. He has a lot of different locks and keys and security to the garage ports that leaves Manager Lee impressed when he walks by it after Hannah who walks up the stairs. Whenever the manager has come here, the garage door has been unlocked as the stylist has been in there working.

Hannah knocks on the door when they reach the top of the stairs, and after a few silent seconds she knocks a little harder.

“Oppa!” she calls out when knocking for a third time.

“Coming, coming, coming,” a groan is heard from the inside, coming closer to the door before it is unlocked and the door is put open widely with someone who surprised both Hannah and Manager Lee.
