It was soft, and it almost lulled you back to sleep until your ears picked up the sounds of quiet voices whispering all about around you.    *Is that Xiumin talking...?* You remained still and listened to the voices for a bit more. It was a fluid murmur of unrecognizable speech.    Finally, you balled your hands in a tight fist and expelled a deep breath before opening your eyes. You didn’t realize until a second later how much energy you used simply by exhaling. *Argh, I feel like I’ve just jogged a mile through a rainstorm...*    Your eyes squinted together as you tried to adjust them to the bright fluorescent lighting that was beaming above you. Your body felt cold and hot at the same time—which was strange.    Suho was the first one to notice your eyes opening. He perked up instantly and scooted closer to you. “Maiden?”    Your head turned slowly towards him. You blinked several times before croaking out, “Where am I?”   Sehun and Tao didn’t say anything and stepped up. Their bottom lips quivering with worry.    The Nurse had allowed all twelve of the boys to squeeze into the small room. After surveying their pitiful and sad expressions, she had no heart to deny them the right to see you.    “You’re at the hospital. You caught a small case of pneumonia, Maiden...” You heard someone say from beside Suho. You craned your head a bit and saw that it was Chanyeol. His eyes were soft and full of worry as he gazed at you.    *Hospital? Pneumonia...?* You blinked slowly. *. Was I standing under the rain THAT long?*    Someone’s hand flew to your forehead and lightly placed it on top of it. “Her temperature is going down.” He said.   You could distinguish that voice from anywhere. *Lay...*    You could feel something intensely warm swimming around the top of your head. A luminous cloud of white shrouded the area for a moment before it descended inside of you. An overwhelming sense of numbness took over your body. In that instant, the hand moved away and you could see Lay taking a few steps back.    You squeezed your eyes shut, the wrinkles appearing slightly above your brows.   “Is Maiden going to be okay?” You could hear Sehun ask. It sounded like he was about to cry.    The crease that had appeared on your eyebrow was instantly smoothed out by a gentle touch. Your eyes fluttered open then. It was Luhan who had gently smoothed out your wrinkle. There was nothing but concern on his baby-face.    “She’ll be fine. Doctor said she’ll be discharged tomorrow.” Luhan said softly, his eyes not leaving yours. His gazed softened even more as he gave you a meek smile. “It was only a small, small, small case of pneumonia. Luckily Suho had come and saved you, Goddess. The doctor said your immune system had crashed after being drenched in the freezing rain.”    You frowned. Crashed?    Kris stooped down and slipped his big hands in yours. It wasn’t until then that you noticed a needle near your wrist. It was an IV needle. You sighed a bit. You hated needles more than you hated Miyung. Softly, he smoothed your bangs back with a gentle, warm smile.    His anxious eyes searched yours. “What were you doing standing in the rain like that? You know how worried we were when we heard that you were in the hospital? You’ve got to stop giving us such big heart attacks, Goddess. Our lifespan isn’t going to withhold for that long if you keep pulling these stunts.”    You set your lips in a straight line. Instead of answering, you glanced around the room.   Each one of the boys had hard look on their faces that made it difficult to understand the meaning behind their expressions. Their eyes held concern and anxiousness, but their faces were masked with something you couldn’t quite describe; especially Xiumin, Chen and D.O. who tried to give you their best smile. But any minute now, it looked as if it would crack. Your eyes roamed around the room until it landed on...   Kai. His expression was one of concern. His eyebrows were furrowed together and his arms were tightly folded across his chest. His eyes were dark, and his lips were pursed together in a straight line. There was something else that lingered on his features, something that absoulutely indistinguishable about his face.    It almost... looked furious.    “Goddess,” Tao whispered, breaking your reverie.   Your eyes immediately shifted over to him.    “Did something bad happen when we weren’t there?” He asked softly. “Suho hyung said you were crying and—” Xiumin quickly elbowed him as if it say ‘Stop! Don’t say anymore’. Tao instantly clamped his lips tight.   You lightly bit your lip. The sounds of the heart monitor accelerated, allowing everyone to hear how quick your heart rate was going up.    “Easy there, Maiden,” Baekhyun chided. He placed a warm hand on top of yours and gave it a tender squeeze. “Relax. Breathe. We won’t get mad at you.”   A short silence drowned the room for awhile until you lightly cleared your throat. “S—sorry for making you guys w—worry a—all the time,” you frowned. It felt like something was stuck in your throat and you cleared it again but the lump seemed to have remained.    “I’m going to go fetch Goddess a warm cup of water,” Chen said quietly and left the room.    You sighed. Why was it so hard to talk abou
