Forty Four
Summoning the Supernatural"First question," I began as soon I was done eating. "What do you know about this?" I held up the note with the loopy handwriting.
All three of my dinner dates paused in what they were doing and glanced among themselves.
"We've... seen them before," Hoshi answered hesitantly.
"Where?" I pressed.
"Before you and all this," Mingyu gestured around wildly, "we were forcefully bonded to a different summoner. He used to recieve notes like that all the time."
"Then, after, we started getting them," Hoshi finished.
"What did they say?" I asked, needing to know if this was a one off or if threats were usually delivered in this way.
"Oh not much," Jeonghan said dissmissively. "This and that, be here be there, bond with a Zhang Meilin, etc."
I blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Didn't you ever wonder why your name was the only thing we asked for before we bonded?" Mingyu asked and I felt something almost click in my mind. Almost.
"And you listened?"
"Yeah, well, it took some convincing. But no regrets," Hoshi smiled warmly at me and held up two fingers in the shape of a "V."
"Who were you bonded to before me?"
"Ah, ah," Jeonghan shook his head. "Spoilers. I'm afraid that's one secret we won't be able to tell you; you see, we were asked very nicely to not reveal that before a specific time."
"By who?"
"Classified," Mingyu reiterated and I felt both my frustration and my curiosity grow. Every answer led to more questions.
"So that day we in the clearing when we... met," I started. "You were there because of the note."
"No," Hoshi shot the idea down immediately. "Ironically enough, that was all chance."
"But then how did you know it was me?"
Jeonghan shrugged. "We just did. You were familiar and we could feel your power start to affect us. That why I--literally--fell out of the sky. Which hurt, by the way," he concluded with a sour expression.
"What do you mean I was familiar?"
"Sorry, love. More spoilers," Mingyu replied
