Twenty One
Summoning the SupernaturalConsidering I couldn't stay awake on the short car ride to school, I decided to heed the note's advice. So, at 8 in the morning, I stumbled into the nurse's office, not even registering Seokmin's look of surprise. I collapsed into the nearest bed and fell asleep before he had time to ask me anything.
I woke up a couple of hours later to the sound of hushed whispering.
“—just came in and collapsed. What happened?”
“I don't know. But you should've seen her this morning. She looked half dead."
"How are her injuries?" If I didn't know any better, I would've thought Seokmin sounded concerned.
"That's the thing. She was fine leaving the hospital yesterday. Completely fine. Not a scratch—"
"Morning," I grumbled and started stretching on the bed.
"How are you feeling?" Seokmin asked hesitantly.
"Better." I yawned. "How long was I out?"
"About three hours," Jun answered. "We're half way through fourth period."
I nodded sleepliy and rubbed my eyes. "We should get going then." I dragged myself off the bed, grabbed my backpack, and started heading for the door. Jun followed wordlessly after me.
"Wait." Seokmin's voice stopped us. "That's it?" I was already half way out the door when I glanced back at him and shrugged. "You waltz in, collapse onto a sickbed, and then just get up and walk away as if nothing happened? As if you’re fine?”
I shrugged again. “All I needed was some sleep.”
Seokmin looked completely unsatisfied with my answer. “Jun said you looked like death.” He paused, as if searching for the right words. “Why did you come to me?” He finally asked.
I sighed heavily and turned to face him. “This is the nurse’s office and I wasn’t feeling well. You’ve made your choice and, if you haven’t noticed, Mrs. Choi isn’t back yet. So don’t flatter yourself in thinking I'm here for you."
