Forty Five
Summoning the SupernaturalAt Hoshi’s suggestion, the four of us decided to take a walk after dinner; I still had questions and despite the late hour, no one present was ready to face what was waiting for them at home.
“So where do you guys go to school? I haven’t seen you in the public public school.”
Mingyu cleared his throat. “Well, when we actually go to class, we attend the Pledis Academy of Excellency and Inquiry.”
“Dedicated to greatness,” all three of them chorused in unison.
I whistled. “Damn, must be nice.”
Pledis Academy was a boarding school located in our humble town that accepted only the richest of rich, most talented and exceptional students. Acceptances were handed out exclusively to people who made six figures or won a national competition. (Though Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo were all also convinced that amount of snottiness and level of arrogance were also considered.)
Mingyu shrugged. “The food is good and their gym is well equipped. And we even have a regular supply of s to kick the out of when we’re angry.”
I laughed, though Mingyu’s expression assured me that he wasn’t joking.
“Yikes, man. Sounds like a fun place to be.”
“Oh you have no idea,” Jeonghan said.
“So then what—?” But my question was cut off by something. I stopped dead in my tracks. “Did you guys hear that?”
Mingyu, Hoshi, and Jeonghan all stopped walking and listened. I strained my ears until I heard it again. A muffled yelp, although this time followed by a groan.
I don’t know who moved first: me or Jeonghan. But within seconds we were chasing down an alley where the distinct sounds of someone getting hit were coming from.
“YAH!” I yelled down to where a small crowd stood half-faded in the darkness.
