My day really came to a head when I showed up at my favorite clearing only to find Mingyu already there waiting for me. He wasn't doing much, just sitting by the stream and thoughtlessly shaping the water into random shapes, when my appearance startled him out of his thoughts as effectively as his presence startled me out of mine.

"Oh good," he mumbled. "You're here."

I crossed my arms over my chest defensively. This was my clearing. "Yeah, I'm here. Why are you here?"

He stood and raised an eyebrow at me. I miscalculated our distance slightly so that when he stood, he was right up in my personal space. Maybe it was the proximity, maybe it was the eyebrow, maybe it was the way he wore his school uniform all ruffled up like he was some sort of k-pop star, but his stare was quite intimidating. "For training?" He asked like I was stupid, making me shiver. "We made plans to meet here every day after school to learn to work together, remember?"

"Oh. Right." I swallowed. He was still too close. "Where's everyone else then?"
