Thirty Two
Summoning the SupernaturalI turned the door handle to the hospital room I had stayed at not even three days earlier, praying it remained completely unchanged from when I was last inside.
There must’ve been a god out there looking out for me after all because I walked in to find a familiar face pressed into a pillow and light snores escaping his mouth. I giggled slightly. Seungkwan was a actor.
“It’s not even three. There’s no way you’re sleeping at this hour.”
One eye opened and peeked around the room. When it landed on me, the snoring immediately stopped and all pretense was abandoned.
“Mei!” I was touched by the excitement in his voice. “Ugh, I thought you were that annoying nurse again.”
I laughed. “What did she ever do to you?”
Seungkwan groaned. “She’s downright irritating. And she won’t leave me alone. She fusses over me like she’s my grandma or something! I already have one of those and even she isn’t as annoying.”
“Aww, but isn’t it nice to know someone cares?” I teased.
He snorted. “Please. Less is more. Honestly, if she really cared she’d understand that ‘I’m fine’ means exactly that. She’d release me and let me go home.”
I smiled again. He was great for my mood. “So other than that, how are you?”
He returned my smile. “I’m great actually. I get to go home tomorrow. My leg has been feeling a lot better lately and the x-rays indicate that it might’ve even healed.” He even threw in a sly wink. “What’s up?”
The smile dropped from my face. I didn’t want to think about what Seokmin said. I sighed and snagged a seat next to Seungkwan’s bed.
“That bad, huh?” He looked at me with such sympathy and for once in my goddamn life, I actually appreciated the fact that someone realized I was having a hard time. It nearly brought me to tears. Seungkwan seemed to realize how I was feeling because he immediately jumped to reassure me. “You don’t have to talk about it now if you don’t want. We can talk about whatever you want. I could tell you about how my mother got this awful new dye jo—“
“I bonded with three more people.”
Seungkwan hesitated. He was studying me very carefully. “I know,” he said after a while. “I felt it. And then I felt you dying. Are you okay?”
