The medicine-men around town never told you what was wrong with her. Anyone in the village who you begged to check her were quick to leave without a word. There was, however, one medicine man who visited her on his own accord.
It was like he knew when to come every time she was sick. He never introduced his name and he was continuously never to be found whenever you needed him.
Every time he visited, Grandma Soyi was always healthy again afterwards. But waiting for him to randomly arrive whenever he wanted just wasn’t your ideal treatment. Grandma Soyi was all you had, and you weren’t going to risk it. That’s why you even went to look for the life-saving mushroom in the first place. If one day Grandma Soyi needed it, you would have it available.
“Is anyone home?” Taehyung asked as he banged on the wooden door impatiently. Nothing but silence lingered around him. He was forbidden to leave the palace and it was rare to get the chance to. He couldn’t bear to lose this opportunity.
“Can you stop trying to break down my home?” Aunt Hye joked while setting the barrel full of water down beside her and reached in her pocket for the key. Taehyung humbly went over to her and helped her bring the barrel of water inside.
Taehyung took a seat across from Aunt Hye while twirling the empty small clay cup with both hands in agony. He had already drank the warm tea that was originally in it in one gulp.
“What is wrong child? You look nervous,” Aunt Hye asked breaking the silence.
“Aunt Hye, my Grandpa is sick,”
“Again?” Aunt Hye asked as she let out a sigh. Taehyung nodded in agreement with a worried look on his face. His slight frown made her soft. Aunt Hye studied the young boy dressed in his dark purple silk robe. His gat hat was nicely worn on his head.
Although a princess herself, she had left the palace years ago and never saw Taehyung grow up. His young watchful eyes blinked, waiting for her to respond. The news Taehyung spoke of was typical. She had long known the reason for her Father’s illness.
