Wreckless
It Began With a DanceTao awoke to a nudge on his shoulder and opened his eyes to Kris standing over him.
"Tao, it's time to get up, we're here." Kris said and turned to step out of the caravan.
"Where?" He asked as he sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
"My grandparents' house." Lay replied. "Are you still tired? You can go back to sleep when we get inside."
"I'm fine, ge-ge, but thank you." Tao stood up and stretched his arms above his head.
"Good." Lay patted him on the arm and walked by him. "We have a lot to do today." He shot over his shoulder before he hopped out the door.
Tao shook his head and stepped out of the caravan. "What do we have to do today?"
"Unpack, first of all." Kris replied and handed Tao a backback. "Luhan also has to contact Kai. We also need to organize ourselves, we're not going to be very helpful in our current state. Luhan and Yixing may be pretty good at their abilities, but the rest of us, including myself, need work." He grabbed a suitcase and guestured for Tao to follow him.
Kris continued. "I already met Yixing's grandparents; they're already up on what's going on and seem to have a pretty good understanding of everything. I'm confident we can strengthen our powers here without any problem, as long as we don't destroy any- what?"
Tao stopped and stared up at the large house. It was more like a mansion from what view he had. Over a stone traditonal wall he could see the building's second story; walls of the same stone and large windows under a dark ceramic tiled roof. Dark window trim and the roof contrasted artistically against the white walls and gave off an aura of warmth in the late morning light.
A tug on his arm brought him out of his thoughts. Kris's hand grasped ahold of his sleeve and the leader pulled him towards the mansion like a father leading his child.
"Be careful where you walk right now, the power line above is-"
It was too late. A loud, electrified snap shot out, followed by two screams.
Xiumin hiked his backpack higher on his shoulder and waited for Chen to tie his shoelace. As he watched him a smile snuck across his face with the thoughts of their mutual confession the night before. He peered down at Chen, knelt down on one knee as he tied his shoe. Xiumin's eyes lingered on his face; the way his long lashes cast shadows below his eyes, his straight nose with prominant cheekbones on either side and his lips he had kissed the night before, soft but firm with corners that tilted up like a michievious cat's. He didn't realize he was staring until Chen looked up and let out a short laugh.
"What?" Xiumin blinked at him.
"You're looking at me like a schoolgirl with a crush. It's cute." Chen replied and stood up.
"I was not! . . . Anyway, we have a lot to do tomorrow, so we should go to be early."
"True. Oh, there was something I forgot to tell you last night, when you mentioned." He paused. "Do you hear that?"
Xiumin cocked his head to the side. A low buzzing vibrated above his head. "It's just the power line. Kris said it was acting funny."
"It smells funny." Chen said and slung his backpack over his shoulder.
"I don't smell anything. Weird." Xiumin looked up.
The power line split with a loud, static-sounding snap, the broken ends sent out sparks that voilently errupted like an electrified firecracker. The strange smell that Chen said he smelled, the smell of ozone, filled the air with the sent of smoke. Both ends of the now broken line fell swiftly to the
