Eonnie,

Today, everyone was avoiding Gary. Usually, people ignored him. But today, they avoided him. And behind his back, they talked about him in hushed whispers. The rumours spreaded like wildfire and people gave him strange looks. Even the teachers eyed him differently. He acted nonchalant, as always, but I think it hurt.

During break, he left class. I told Seo Young and Krystal that I didn’t want to go for break, so they went by themselves. Then I went to the garden to find him.

He was just there, sitting under the tree as usual. I quietly sat beside him. He opened his eyes and looked at me for a moment, but he didn’t say anything.

“Go away,” he said after a while.

I ignored request and stayed there. He didn’t say anything else.

We stayed there the entire break until the bell rang. Before I left, I told him the quote he told me once.

“It’s okay not to be okay.”

He looked at me and looked away. Then I walked off.

Maybe you would have thought that I should have talked more, or said more comforting words. But sometimes, comforting words doesn’t help much. It’s no use, especially when you don’t know what the other person is going through. So, sometimes just by being there, it would be nice.

Now that I am saying this, I realised that he might have been doing the same for me all along. I realised that whenever I stayed in class, he would stay in class too. Whenever I went to ea
