Confusing...Frustrating

Two Melodies

Lunch with Jungkook and my family went well. No untoward incidents happened. Of course.

Anyway, the rest of the week passed by smoothly, I guess. Chen oppa's birthday passed by and we called him via video patch to greet him. Chanyeol oppa was in the bathroom when we called, so when he got out of the shower, he had nly draped a

towel around his waist. Sehun had burst out laughing and did a dance similar to a rain dance. Yo's hair was stil dripping wet. He noticed we were on a videocall with Chen, and he suddenly hit Chen's head with the t-shirt that he carried with his

other hand.

Chanyeol: Why didn't you say you were on a video call? What if mama Wu was there? She'd see my half- glory!
Chen: Is that my problem?
Chanyeol: Yes. It's your birthday.
Chen: Anyway, Xiao Yi is there. Aren't you ashamed of your stick-thin body?
Chanyeol: Ah, little sister don't care.
Sehun: Get off the camera, hyung.
Chen: Me?
Sehun: Aniyo.

I didn't join in the banter. Boys will be boys. The three oldies were still in Beijing. Papa had gone back to Phuket and decided to let the oldies stay at home for the meantime. He had said that he would just call when he needed the oldies in

Thailand. Xiumin and Kris gege were happy about that. Xiumin had expressed his desire to  help out with the soft opening of the restaurant. Kris just wanted to extend his vacation and didn't wanna do anything related to work.

October passed by quickly as well.

Lay gege was focused on his university studies. When his birthday came on, he barely had time to accept our video call, but even if he was exhausted, he still found time for that. He had said that he missed us already, and it would only be a year

or two more in university before he graduated. But because he wanted to graduate with honors, he was working hard. Mama and Suho gege were with him in London, and somehow, it eased his homesickness. His mom wasn't able to visit him, due

to financial reasons, but he had said that his mom called him earlier that day to greet him.

Mama was still unable to come back home. She had decided to stay for a while in London. Suho was about to start internship soon, and mama figured it would be best that she was there to help him with the transition. Papa had agreed. And

that's why he let the three oldies stay in Beijing. With mama in London, there was no one to manage the Beijing properties.

A few days later, I found myself in a compromising situation.

October 13. It was Jimin's birthday. Yes, he was in the States, but that didn't mean he wasn't able to make me awkward. Actually, I made the situation awkward, not him.

We were in school and Yue decided to greet Jimin while we were in the middle of working on a group project. We were given a free period so we could work on it. There wasn't much to do, actually, because the day before, some of our groupmates

already started it, so we only had to follow through and finalize it.

Yue took out her phone and opened her Skype.

Me: Are you really going to call him now? Why not do that later?
Yue: He might be asleep later. I don't wanna wake him up.
Me: Isn't that the thing, though? Surprise him?
Yue: I know, but...I feel awkward. At least if you're with me, I won't feel that awkward.
Me: Hahah, okay.
Yue: Don't go away.
Me: Okay, okay. I'll be here.

Yue had looked nervous. I knew that feeling. Lately, whenever I was in the presence of Jungkook, I feel that way. It may not really show much, but my insides were churning.

The Skype application was open and Yue hesitated to press the "call" button, but after a few seconds, she closed her eyes and pressed it. I chuckled. She shot me a nervous look.

A sleepy Jimin appeared on screen.

Yue: Hi.
Jimin: To the moon and back.
Yue: *chuckles*
Jimin: Hmm?
Yue: Happy birthday, Jimin.
Jimin: Say it in Korean.
Yue: Uhm..saeng-il...chuk..
Jimin: Aww, cute. Hahaha. Kamsahamnida, nae sarang.

I tried so hard to stay away from where the screen can capture me, but even with Jimin's slits for eyes, he saw me. He was grinning and doing awkward aegyo with Yue.

Jimin: Is that Xiao Yi with you?
Yue: Yes.
Jimin: What are you hiding there for, Xiao Yi-ah?

He was laughing. I could sense Yue was also chuckling.

Jimin: Ah, nevermind her. Yue, where's my birthday kiss?
Yue: Aish. Not here.
Jimin: Xiao Yi won't even see. Just one?

I peeked at the screen, and the camera caught me. Jimin laughed as he saw me.

Jimin: I think we should show Xiao Yi how to kiss, Yue. Pointers for when Kookie kisses her.
Me: Happy birthday, Jimin.
Jimin: Kamsahamnida *laughs*
Me: Enjoy your day, Jimin.
Jimin: So, my dongsaeng still haven't kissed you?
Me: No.
Jimin: Ahhaaa...so you are waiting.
Me: What- I didn't...
Jimin: *wiggles eyebrows* Why don't  you two just date already.
Me: We're talking about your birthday, Jimin.
Yue: Actually, I really think it's about time you and Jungkook date.
Jimin: Yes, that's right.
Yue: I'm wondering why you two are still fighting the obvious chemistry.
Me: We're on free period, not chemistry class. And he's not our classmate.
Jimin: Xiao Yi, you can't fool me. I know you like my brother, too.
Yue: And it's obvious that Jungkook likes you, too.
Jimin: Yep.
Me: I'm...gonna leave you both...just kiss already. Yue, it's his birthday, just kiss already.

Jimin realized my awkward reply. I wasn't able to say the word  "kiss" properly. I made a face at him and walked away. As I walked, I could hear Jimin's high-pitched aegyo laugh and Yue chuckling with him.

The rest of the month, it was confusing. And frustrating.

I always had the unfortunate timing when I was with Jungkook.

I had already admitted to myself that I liked him and I was jealous whenever he gave too much attention to any other girl than myself. Especially Lee Halla. They weren't even classmates, but there were a lot of times that I saw them talking in the

corridors or at the skating rink. I didn't even know how Halla managed to know Jungkook's schedule. I only knew half of his subjects. Not that I wasn't interested in what he was taking up, but I just didn't find it right to stalk him.

One day, I made the excuse that I was doing a group study with classmates, so I wouldn't be able to go home early. Luhan was like "Okay." Kris and Xiumin were not convinced right away, but when Luhan said okay, they said okay as well.

My schedule was clear after class. I decided to go down to the school skating
rink. They had skateboard practice then. I smiled to myself. I wanted to be there and let my presence be felt by Jungkook. If he saw me, maybe he'd talk to me and not

talk to anyone else. Kai and Sehun were there too, of course. Sehun patted my hair and snorted. He didn't mind that I was there watching their practice. Kai was already in the rink doing his routine. He was showing some new moves to the "new

recruits" as Sehun said. He left me at the bleachers.

I placed my backpack on the floor and sat down on one of the benches. I let my eyes wander around the rink to find him. I saw him talking to another skater and they were laughing at what he was saying. It looked like they were talking about

something Jungkook did earlier and the other guy seemed to immitate him and they both laughed again.

I busied myself watching him talk to the other guy. I smiled to myself. I daydreamed that I was the supportive girlfriend, watching his skateboard practice.

"Xiao Yi, pleasure to see you here."

I woke up from my reverie. Someone had sat beside me and I turned to look at the direction of the voice. Yibo smiled at me. I smiled back.

Me: Hi.
Yibo: What brings you here? Sehun? Kai?
Me: Hmm, yeah. Supporting my brothers.
Yibo: That's cool. Maybe you could support me too.
Me: Of course. I support the FIS team.
Yibo: Hmm. That's cool too.
Me: Mind if I ask you something?
Yibo: No, I don't mind. What is it?
Me: How long have you been skateboarding, anyway?
Yibo: Since I was eleven.
Me: Ah, so you're a pro now, right?
Yibo: No, of course not. I'm still not as good as your Kai gege.
Me: His life is practically dance, skateboard and recently, racing.
Yibo: Oh...so...that's why that Gao dude...
Me: Yes. I hate that guy.
Yibo: He showed up a few days ago at the park when we were having our afternoon stroll, me and Seungyeon, I mean.
Me: He didn't try to hurt you both, right?
Yibo: He wouldn't try. Seungyeon had the crazy idea to bring bodyguards.
Me: Why?
Yibo: He's crazy. No other reason.
Me: So, he does random things like it's normal?
Yibo: Yes, right.
Me: Were they also on skateboard?

Yibo almost choked with laughter. I patted his back. He shook his head.

Yibo: What made you ask that?
Me: Well, you said Seungyeon is crazy.
Yibo: Yeah, he is. But no. The big guys just followed us around in the car.
Me: That's still crazy.
Yibo: I know right.

And Seungyeon, who was at the rink, looked up at us and narrowed his eyes. It was as if he heard us talking about him. Yibo smiled innocently at him and raised his hand. I grinned at him, as well. Seungyeon waved his hand, oblivious, and

continued on his routine.

My eyes slowly wandered off toward Jungkook who was now standing by two other skaters. He hadn't been watching the skaters, instead, he was looking in our direction. His face was serious and his jaw muscles were moving. He looked angry.  I

quickly looked away and took a deep breath. I turned to look at him again. There was no way I saw him looking angry. But he was no longer standing where I saw him just a second ago. Then I saw his retreating back, he was walking away from

the rink. I excused myself from Yibo and picked up my backpack. I ran after Jungkook. He had walked toward the parking area. He was carrying his board with one hand. I half walked-half ran toward the parking area. I saw him throw his board

in the backseat of his car. He slowly walked toward the driver's seat. I reached his car and called out to him. He looked in my direction and raised an eyebrow.

Me: Where are you going?
Him: Home.
Me: Not gonna practice anymore?
Him: Nope.
Me: Oh.
Him: Ne. Bye, Xiao Yi. See you.
Me: Uhm..
Him: Yes?
Me: I..well, Sehun and Kai oppa still at practice and I..uhm..
Him: You need a ride home?
Me: Yes, I guess..
Him: I thought you were going to stay there.
Me: Me? Stay? Aniyo.
Him: You looked fine talking with Yibo back there.
Me: Uhm, he..
Him: Ah, nevermind. Get in the car.

I got in the passenger seat. He didn't look at me, but he sort of growled at me as he told me to fasten my seatbelt.

"Unless you want to die, fasten your seatbelt Yinzi."

He called me by my first name. It had been a while since he called me that way. But I obliged.

He started the car and drove carefully out of the parking area. There were other cars who were leaving, so he had to maneuvre the car slowly. On the way out of the gate, he slowed down. He had rolled down the window and called out to someone

who was walking. It was Halla. My face suddenly fell. Jungkook had asked her if she needed a ride home...which she answered with a sweet yes. I pretended to fix my hair, but I rolled my eyes as my hands covered my face. I was in the front

passenger seat. I still won this round. Halla had said that she needed to be at the ice cream shop. She had work after school. I smiled all the more to myself and combed my hair with my fingers.

So yeah, we dropped Halla off first, at the ice cream shop, then made our way to my house. Oddly enough, he started humming a song. He seemed happy. His face no longer looked angry. Maybe he's happy because of Halla. I exhaled loudly. He

chuckled. I quickly turned to look at him. He was looking straight and tapping his fingers on the wheel as he continued to hum, chuckling occasionally. He noticed I was staring at him.

Him: Hmm?
Me: Weren't you angry just before?
Him: That's what you get from hanging out too much with Seungyeon's cousin.
Me: What?
Him: It's obvious, Yinzi.
Me: What's obvious?
Him: I don't really like it.
Me: What?
Him: You. Hanging out with Yibo.
Me: Why?
Him: Because, I don't like it.
Me: Why not? He's not like that Gao guy.
Him: You are forgetting that you are engaged to me.
Me: Wh-
Him: You know you can't date other guys, right?
Me: I know that.
Him: Good.
Me: Aren't you dating Halla, though?
Him: Can't I?
Me: You are forgetting that you are engaged to me.
Him: Oh, I'm quite aware of that.
Me: So, why are you dating Halla?
Him: Did I say I was?
Me: No, but-
Him: I'm not. Case closed. You shouldn't be flirting with Yibo.
Me: Fine.

He smirked and looked at me through the rearview mirror, because I had fixed my gaze into it.

I had wanted him to say he didn't like seeing me with Yibo because he was jealous, but he didn't say it. He was clearly just following what his appa and my papa said.

Him: Xiao Yi, I don't wanna see you talking to Yibo.
Me: Why? Why? Why? Urghhhh!

I suddenly blurted out, frustration rising.

Him: You're mine!
