Chapter 15

Graduation came and went, they threw their surprise farewell party for Sungmin, everything seems to be a blur except for that day that Joohyun received Kyuhyuns proposal, not because finally he looks her way but because of what she saw in Yonghwa’s face, was she just delusional when she saw hurt and regret? She denies it numerous times because it’s impossible, and yet there he is smiling at her as if encouraging her to take this step and get to know Kyuhyun more. She thought about it for a second while looking into his eyes, waiting for him to say no and be mine instead but he didn’t and she knows he wouldn’t he has Shinhye after all.

The group tried to spend summer together before going their separate ways, Joohyun, Minhyuk, Jungshin, Yoona and Jonghyun will all be entering Donguk University with the twins who are both taking up pharmacy, for Donghae his pre med, while the others in different colleges. Yonghwa will be attending Hanyang with Eunhyuk and Hyoyeon though they won’t be taking the same course, Shinhye sadly will be sent to her aunt abroad to study since her father will be moving there for work purposes though this didn’t stop them from being together.

She and Kyuhyun did went out on a number of dates during summer and come first year of college, they are officially a couple. She is happy with him and on some level, he helped bury whatever she feels for Yonghwa deeper. She may have agreed to be Kyuhyuns girlfriend for all the wrong reasons but she vowed to eventually make it right. She will be the best girlfriend she can be to him and that’s a promise she made to herself. The balance in life that she has been seeking for 3 years has finally come. She doesn’t look for Yonghwa nor wait for Yonghwa, if he calls her then she’s happy if not, she’s okay.

She sat outside a mini coffee shop near the entrance of the mall, she looked up to see the forming dark clouds and can sense that it would rain come night time. She and Kyuhyun promised to meet after class and watch a movie since they weren’t able to celebrate their monthsary because both are busy with school. She was mindlessly watching the people pass by when she felt her phone vibrated, she took it out and saw a message from Yonghwa

“You don’t love me anymore J getting a boyfriend doesn’t mean ditching your bestfriend”

She smiled and shook her head, she remembered the first week Shinhye was gone. It was like Yonghwa was part of their house décor, even Donghae and Heechul were enjoying the new big bundle of annoyance in the house.

“Yonghwa, once we enter military we want you to look after Joohyun and mom and dad” Donghae spoke one evening

“yeah since you eat too well why not look after them well” Heechul smiling mischievously

“Excuse me I think that will be too much for Yonghwa, can’t you see how active he is? He sits in the sofa, goes to the kitchen to get food, walks back, sit on the sofa again, when he feels sleepy, he goes to my room…walking slowly….turns on the tv and sleep on my bed! I mean THAT’s HARD WORK!” Joohyun raising her hands with wide eyes and slightly open mouth for additional “that’s amazing” look

“I’ll get it so I can pay for my food and living expenses!” Yonghwa stuck his tongue out to Heechul and huff his way to the gate

“JOOOOHHHHYYYYYYUUUNNNNN!!!” they heard him shout. She stood up and walked to the gate

“He wanted to see you” Yonghwa tilted his head to Kyus direction with arms cross.

“Hi! ”

“Hi!” she shyly smiled back. Yonghwa rolled his eyes and went inside the house leaving the two still standing by the gate

She formally introduced Kyuhyun to her brothers and mom.

“Well you know Yonghwa right? He’s well, he’s an adopted Seo” smirking at him who was still lying on the sofa eyes on the TV as if no one’s talking about him. Joohyun kicked his legs to make way for Kyuhyun and he but didn’t even budge. She looked at him and he stared back at her.

She turned her head to Kyu “Let’s just go to the garden, we can talk there, just the two of us, without any interruption” then shooting dagger looks at Yonghwa

They were talking for 10 minutes when they heard the gate closing loudly. She chuckled. Yonghwa just left. It wasn’t the last time it happened though since Yonghwa adamantly went with Kyu and Joohyun on some of their dates, coaxing Mrs. Seo that her daughter needs a chaperon. There are times when he’s okay but there are times when they have to deal with a sour Yonghwa. She would time and time again after the date ask Yonghwa to stay away and he would in turn say he won’t come with them anymore but come 2 dates after, he’s tagging along with them again. It only stopped when she officially said yes to Kyu

“Hey” a tap on her shoulder broke her reverie

“You waited long?” he asked as he sat beside her

“Not really, I came early, our professor let us out early, how are you?” she smiled looking at him

“I’m okay, they’re planning our class’ MT, they said it’s for the class to bond, I don’t know if I’ll join” he took her hand and covered it with his

“GO! This is chance for you to get to know your classmates and professors”

He shrugged “Yeah I guess, let’s go?”

“Let’s go!!” she stood up excitedly as he put his arms around her and made their way to the cinema.

“Would you like to come in?” Joohyun asked Kyu as he drop her off after their movie date

“I’ts okay, I’m kind of tired as well and I know you are so go rest I’ll call you when I get home”

“Ok ” she leaned in for a peck

She wave him goodbye and entered their house with a smile on her face. She greeted her mom and went straight to her room only to find it open with a light coming the TV, she steps in and see someone lying on her bed, she inched forward and sat beside the sleeping figure and turned the TV off, she pulled the blanket down only to find a sleeping Yonghwa. She chuckled at his solemn face,

“I miss you” she whispered as she lied half her body down next to him. She stared at him for God knows how long, she put the pillows in between them and hugged one pillow tightly smiling recalling her earlier date until she fell asleep.
