“What do we do now ?” Wendy, the caring girlfriend as usual, hands Irene a cup of freshly made hot tea when the latter is finally home after a long day.

 

 

“Anything but breaking up I guess.” Irene takes a sip, enjoying the warmness from the hot liquid down and from her snowman to her heart. 

 

 

“Don’t go.” Wendy squats to the eye-level of Irene whom is casually lying on the couch.

 

 

Irene smiles putting the mug away, and cups those squishy cheeks with both hands..

 

She has to admit that it feels good.

 

The feeling of her cheeks in her hands, and her eyes only on her.

 

 

Yes, she knows she is the possessive type.

 

 

“I am not going anywhere.”

 

 

Wendy, on the other hand, too enjoys a little much of seeing her own reflection within Irene’s dark orbs.

 

Somehow, it’s like she is trapped inside of Irene.

 

It feels good and it sounds good. Strangely.

 

 

“I mean don’t even thinking of moving out or something. ”

 

She nearly forgot how to speak if it wasn’t the soft giggle escaped from those lips.

 

 

“Then I have to be sneaky enough or get some ninja skills.” 

 

“We’ve been doing fine. Just act natural when people asks where we live or relationships or any bull like that.”

 

 

“Yeah…. Someone had already said on TV that she is in a relationship.” Irene rolls her eyes and her eyebrows moves along.

 

 

It looks a bit cheeky but every bit of her is good for the other girl in the house.

 

 

 

The other girl flashes a silly grin which makes her eyes shrank a little, “I just wanna keep those pursuers out of my way.” 

 

 

“Anyway, I don’t know what’s coming but it certainly won’t be easy for us.” 

 

 

“But…. They won’t ask you to kill me or something. If they really did, it’d be a piece of cake for you since you can just suffocate me with a pillow in my sleep or stab me with a fork while I am cooking.” 

 

 

They have a good laugh for that.

 

 

 

“Wendy, really.” Irene bites her inner lips and tries to be serious, “They might get me doing all kinds of stuff to destroy your career.”

 

 

“I will be just fine.” The Canadian sweetheart dearly takes her girlfriend’s hands, “Don’t worry about me. Just do your job.”

 

 

“I hope everything will be just fine for us.” Irene sighs hanging her head low.

 

 

 

“You were in college working part time waiting tables,

Wendy tilts her head like a little puppy and softly mutters, “I am always here for you. I stay here for you, for us. I am your girlfriend. And I love you.” 

 

 

Irene is caught up at such sweetness again.  

 

How could this derp be this sweet and cheesy after they have dated almost a year ?

 

Perhaps she is really a romantic freak.

 

 

She blinks a few times trying not to let her eyes water.

 

She thinks for a while before replying such cheesiness, “Seunghwan-ah, I heard that it is the bond that holds a relationship together, not the bind. And I’m glad I would always know that you love me, even in the slightest gesture.”

 

 

 

 

Wendy’s gonna get a face cramp from grinning too long, but it’s okay.

 

She leans in and holds Irene in her arms.

 

 

“So how’s your day, Bae Joohyun ?” 

 

It becomes a kind of habit of her to ask her dear Daegu bae after a long day of work.

 

It’s nothing something special.

 

It doesn’t necessarily need an answer.

Irene looks at her reflection in the mirror, “I know you’re all happy and fluffy coming back from your trip. But please give a little help here. Not to make me feel miserable.”

 

Jessica playfully slaps the younger girl’s arm, “Hey don’t you say that. You feel miserable even you have Wendy ?”

 

 

“You know I didn’t mean that part….. ”

 

“Yeah, you meant that part which they asked you collaborate with Suzy in order to kick Wendy out from the chart ?” Jessica covers laughing.

 

 

Irene dejectedly shakes her head, “It’s approaching Fall. It means our 1 year anniversary is coming. I can’t believe what I am doing neither.”

 

“No, girl…..” Jessica fixes Irene’s clothes. “The ironic part is, both of you like Wendy.” 

 

“Tell that in my boss’s face.” Irene forces a laugh. “I don’t know how to face Suzy later. It’s gonna awkward.”

 

 

“Hey, she doesn’t have a single clue. Just play dumb.” 

 

“What if she keeps blabbering about Wendy ?”

 

“Then play along, girl. Hold your horses and act cool.” 

 

 

“Oh how I love life.” Irene says mockingly. “Full with surprises. I was hoping for chocolate chip cookies and it gives me raisin cookies. Wendy didn’t say anything about it by the way.”

 

 

“What was she supposed to say then ? Take a chill pill, girl. Taeyeon and I have made it through. And I truly think you two can too.”

 

 

“Thanks unnie. It’s great to have you back after all.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“What the ?”

 

“Stop swearing Sera.” 

 

 

“Look at the TV.”

 

Wendy follows suit and stays calm as , “So ?”

 

 

“They are performing together ? Why didn’t you mention about it ?” Sera widens her eyes and is ready to break the TV controller in half with her bare hands.

 

 

“You would see eventually. Like now.” Wendy smiles and goes back to her guitar.

 

 

 

“Yo ! What’s up ?”

 

 

“Oh Taeyeon you’re here. Can you believe this ?”

 

 

“That’s how the business works.” Taeyeon shrugs. “It’s quite unexpected but they are the ones who have enough popularity to beat Wendy.”

 

 

“I still found this…..  Ironic.” Sera juts her lips.

 

 

 

“They make a good team though.” Wendy places her chin on her guitar and starts watching the TV show as Irene starts talking.

 

 

Taeyeon nods.

 

 

“What if Suzy found out you two are together ?” Sera suddenly asks while all three of them are having their eyes stick to the screen.

 

 

“Maybe she will kill Irene and I will kill her then I will kill myself.” 

 

“Stop joking around, I’m serious.” 

 

 

“There’s nothing she can do if Suzy found out.” Taeyeon folds her arms. “Because she likes Wendy. She won’t do anything to hurt her.”

 

 

Sera can only nod and sigh.

 

 

While Wendy keeps shut and her eyes on the TV.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“It’s nice to work with you, really.” Suzy smiles towards her new collaboration partner while they are at the backstage.

 

“Me too.” A professional picture-perfect smile from Irene.

 

 

Suzy scans around and whispers, “Your management told you what was it for, right ?”

 

“Yeah.”

 

 

“I hate to do this but I can’t just disobey them.”

 

“Maybe two of us still can’t take her down.” Irene glances at the frowning girl and giggles.

 

 

“You know her, right ? I mean personally.” 

 

“Of course I do.” Irene rolls her eyes mentally.

 

 

“She’s a nice person. I don’t know why they are so hostile towards her.”

 

“You said it yourself, she is nice. She can sing and compose songs. She got the looks and figure too.” 

 

 

“But I really don’t wanna do this….” Suzy throws herself on a chair.

 

“Why ?” Irene quirks an eyebrow,

 

 

Suzy looks hesitated. 

 

But after she scrutinizes the older girl’s expression for a while, she speaks in a volume that barely travels to Irene whom is just standing beside her. 

 

“Unnie, do you have someone you like ?”

 

 

Irene is quite surprised the national little sister opens up so quickly to her.

 

“Hmm….. Yes ?”

 

 

“You too ? So are you together yet ?” Suzy innocently asks. “……..I don’t mean to ask about your privacy or something. If you feel uncomfortable, you can ignore me.”

 

 

Irene can see this girl could do harm.

 

“It’s alright. We are together.”

 

 

“So how do you manage to keep it down ?”

 

“Just don’t go out and date.” 

 

“Oh that’s not good then …..…” 

 

 

Irene giggles more to see Suzy is actually still a child.

 

 

“Unnie, is it hard ?”

 

“It could be.”

 

“And it must be worth it. That person must be someone very good. You must love her very much.”

 

 

 

Irene pats the sitting girl’s head and softly says, “I am not good with words. But I can describe how much I love her - she’s like a color, not everybody would like, yet exactly what I need to finish my picture. And I know I would never be good with words. Because she finishes my sentences too.”

 

“So yes, it is worth it. She is very good and I love her very much.”

 

 

 

“It’s a she ?” Suzy covers with both of her hands.

 

“Yes.” Irene proudly nods. “Problem ?”

 

 

“No….. I like a girl too.” Suzy shyly admits.

 

“Oh…..” Irene fakes a reaction.

 

 

“Didn’t I just say I don’t wanna do this ? Because I like Wendy…… ”

 

“Is she dating someone already ?” Irene goes straight to the point smirking internally.

 

 

“I know……. Anyway we have each other’s secret now. Fair ?” 

 

“Fair enough. Let’s just finish the show and go home.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Suzy asked me out again.”

 

“I knew. She told me today.”

 

“Really ?”

 

“Yep. She said she likes you. And I said I am dating a girl.”

 

“Fair enough.”

 

“I know right ?”

 

“So just don’t get your photos taken or something. I will be home by 8.”

 

“Sure thing. That diner is safe. I’ll be back soon too.”

Wendy ends the phone call and turns to Taeyeon whom is driving.

 

 

“Thanks for being my driver today.”

 

“Jessica is back to work and I have nothing to do. Also, shouldn’t I spend some time with my friend too ?”

 

“Aww~~ Thanks again.”

 

“Don’t mention it. My mission ends until I get you home alive.”

 

“Suzy won’t bite. It won’t take long too.”

 

“I will stay in the car then.” 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Hi.”

 

“Hi. This diner again.” Wendy sits across the table.

 

 

“It’s a safe place. See that table at the far right corner, those are celebrities too.”

 

“I see.” 

 

 

Wendy doesn’t order anything and waits for her ex-schoolmate to start.

 

 

“I’m sorry if I have to borrow your time…. But we are friends, right ?” Suzy asks timidly.

 

“Yes, we are. And it’s okay for me to be here but not for long.”

 

 

“Did you watch TV ?”

 

“Even if I didn’t, it’s all over the news. With my name tagged.” Wendy chuckles.

 

 

“I’m sorry.”

 

“You don’t need to. I am still here, breathing, doing well.”

 

 

“About Irene…… She seems reluctant too but I can’t see through her.” 

 

“Don’t worry. I know her.” Wendy looks at Suzy and smiles genuinely.

 

 

 

Suzy takes a deep breathe before continuing, “So did your girlfriend say anything about that ? Is she worried ?”

 

 

“Of course she is. But she has faith on me.” Wendy is still smiling.

 

 

“How could you still manage to smile so brightly ? Those companies are after your . They might dig your girlfriend out in order to hurt you.” Suzy raises her voice a little bit.

 

 

“They can’t. They couldn’t do so even when I was the director of Contento.”

 

 

“If you say so……”

 

 

 

Wendy waits for some more minutes and checks her watch, “Is there anything you want to say ?”

 

 

 

“I wanna know…….. Is she……. beautiful ?”

 

 

Wendy hears it and unknowingly grins again, “And you wanna know why I love her ?”

 

 

Suzy nods in silence.

 

 

“It may sound awfully cliché but it is happening to me - I found her most beautiful not when she is all fancied up, but when she isn’t. When she is lying on the carpet with me, her hair all messed and tangled up, laughing about something that happened long ago. Like the sudden rain on the beach at the second day we met. Like that time we were solving that 1000-piece puzzle at her parents’ house.”

 

“When she isn’t tying to impress anyone, but taking down the wall she built. That’s when I cannot take my eyes off of her. That’s when I know I love her and I am the one she loves.”

 

 

Suzy can’t help but falls a little more for this human being.

 

How lucky would one to be whoever she is dating.

 

“I understand now…… Take care of yourself, okay ?”

Suzy finds herself often lost in her own thoughts in this diner.

 

Especially after meeting up with her dearest former schoolmate.

“Wendy-ah~” Irene calls while using her feet to poke the said girl whom is snuggling at another end of the couch.

 

“Huh ?” Wendy uses one hand to hold them on her thighs as she is still flipping through those boring channels which are all showing tearjerking dramas.

 

 

“How is my performance ?”

 

“I am just worrying about your health.”

 

 

“It isn’t that tiring as it seems. The promotion won’t last long too. And I am asking for your opinion, not your concern.” Irene says struggling to free her feet. 

 

“Don’t move……  You’ve done well. How I wish I can dance like you ~”

 

“But people are saying my singing is not as good as Suzy.”

 

“So do you wanna form a unit with me instead ?”

 

 

“Yah, ” Irene sits upright and yanks Wendy’s hand. “Only if they allowed. And your singing is even better.”

 

“So I will sing and you’ll just dance at the back.” The derp laughs wholeheartedly at her own joke.

 

 

“You are so dead.”

 

“Alright, alright…..” Wendy side-hugs the fuming cabbage. “There’s no need to compare between you two, ‘cause you are a team. And don’t lie to me, I read the comments. They are quite positive.”

 

 

“But-”

 

“Don’t even think of Suzy as your enemy. Even she might be better than you in some ways, I’m still yours.”

 

 

Irene’s face heats up because Wendy has read her once again.

 

She thus turns her head away.

 

 

“You don’t trust me ?” Wendy curves her lips into a light smile.

 

“I do….. It’s just ….” Irene recalls how she described her feelings towards Wendy to Suzy earlier. “Do you remember the time when I fell asleep while you were cooking the first day we met ?” 

 

 

“Yeah, we had just met and you took me to your place.” Wendy laughs.

 

“Hey, you offered to cook me dinner in order to compensate your…. compensate.” Irene is still shy remembering how Wendy barged in when her dress slipped from her shoulders.

 

 

“So did I compensate ?”

 

Irene cutely shakes her head slightly, “Not yet. Not enough.”

 

 

“So how about a lifetime of cooking, snuggling up with each other, singing, just to make it up to you ?”

 

“Yes please.”

 

“You know what ? I think I have decided to do so long ago, when you took me in your arms after we got soaked on the beach. You bossed around me the whole day and I liked it. We got soaked in the rain together makes me liked it even more.”

And as time goes by, I fall deeper for you. When we started dating, you made me feel needed and loved. You always think of me first.”

 

 

“Am I doing a good job then ?” Wendy playfully asks.

 

“You are.”

 

 

“I don’t know how to explain but I really need you. The reason that I could stay strong and bright all along is because you are here with me. So I promised to myself I shall never lose you. I thought I was gonna die too when you were in the operation room.”

 

 

“Don’t you silly. If I was gone forever, I would want you to live happily even without me. But when I first opened my eyes, I could not see not remember why I was there. The only thing I was sure is that you must have been waiting for me. You even waited patiently for me to recover.”

 

 

“I would be a total jerk if I left at that time.”

 

 

“Then you are exactly the opposite of a total jerk, Son Seunghwan. You’ve never leave me.” Irene lays down on the snowman’s lap. “Even after we fought and argued over stupid little things. Even after we were both tired. Even after realizing how bumpy the road ahead of us would be.”

“Why ?”

 

“Because it’s only our first anniversary. I’m sure there’ll be many that we can celebrate in any ways we want.”

 

 

“I can’t wait.”

 

“Me too. But first, let me help you relax a bit. Your muscles must be sore. Do you like massages ?”
