After having such awesome birthday, Wendy swears to herself and whatever god that she is going to give her girlfriend a even more kick- one.

 

But she doesn’t have much time left.

 

 

Irene’s birthday is in later March.

 

 

Nearly one month apart. Not to mention they are extremely busy recently.

 

 

She could not see her cabbage that often now.

 

On the screen ? Yes.

 

 

 

She is having her highly-anticipated comeback and she is going to have her debut.

 

It is undoubtedly stressful for everyone.

 

 

 

 

Today, Wendy have just gotten another song recorded. 

 

And she is exhausted as hell. 

 

 

Luckily, she still has Taeyeon, who also has a busy girlfriend.

 

 

Taeyeon is now mainly working at home, writing her new novel.

 

 

 

The duo is back to their old days.

 

 

 

“Taeyeon-unnie ?” Wendy softly knocks on her door.

 

“What’s up ?” The older girl hums.

 

 

“I’m hungry ~~~” The young girl steps in and slyly smiles.

 

“I’m not.” Taeyeon is typing fast as she speaks.

 

“I wanna eat ~~~ ” Wendy keeps whining. She can cook because she doesn’t want to move.

 

 

“I give you 10 seconds to get your out of my room. 10 — 9 —” 

 

“Unnie ~~~~~ It’s Ginger’s eating time too.” Wendy does her aegyo.

 

 

 

“Fine.” Taeyeon rolls her eyes and compromises.

 

 

 

It doesn’t take long for Taeyeon to make kimchi tuna fried rice.

 

 

 

“It’s Jessica-unnie’s signature dish.” Wendy smirks as she picks up her spoon.

 

“So what ? Aren’t you hungry ? EAT.” 

 

“Miss her ? I miss Irene too…..” 

 

“We can’t do anything about it ….. We got our own business to take care of.” Taeyeon sighs and she puts Ginger’s bowl down.

 

 

“Irene’s birthday is approaching.” Wendy pouts. 

 

“Out of ideas ?” Taeyeon teases.

 

“Not really …. But I want it to be perfect, like ….. You know…”

 

“I know.”

 

“Then what should I do ?”

 

“You are asking me ? About your girlfriend’s birthday ?” Taeyeon mocks. 

 

“I am asking for advice.” 

 

“Keep it simple.”

 

“Eh ?”

 

“You two have been dating almost for half a year. It’s getting stable. I believe. You guys have been through a lot.”

 

 

 

 

 

After the meal, Wendy returns to her room.

 

Resting.

 

Spacing out, actually.

 

 

And she texts Sooyoung for Irene’s schedule.

 

 

Since she is a successful “matchmaker”, Sooyoung regards Wendy as her idol.

 

She would provide any information she needs.

 

 

Irene has a tight schedule today.

 

A music live show, a commercial shooting and a radio show.

 

 

It is difficult for Wendy to squeeze in and meet her cabbage.

 

She would prefer her getting some rest too.

 

 

 

So she starts dozing off on her bed.

 

 

 

“Wendy-ah, wake up.” A person comes up and pokes her arm.

 

 

 

She opens her eyes and sees a pair of cat eyes.

 

 

“Seulgi ? Why are you here ?” 

 

“To keep you company.” 

 

“How about Joy ?”

 

“She’s in school. Final exam is coming up.”

 

 

 

Wendy rests her back on the headboard and glances at her buddy.

 

 

 

“Why staring at me like that ? I am not Irene.” Seulgi scoffs.

 

“I haven’t seen you for quite a while, my bear ~~~~” Our Olaf embraces the bear.

 

“I’m glad that Joy isn’t around. She’ll kill you if she sees this.”

 

“I’m glad that Irene isn’t around too.”

 

 

 

They look at each other and have a good laugh.

 

 

 

“Anyway, I miss you so much…… Since you’re not in school anymore.” 

 

“Me too……. I can only see you in Taeyeon-unnie’s studio lately.”

 

“I heard you went back to school on your birthday.”

 

“Yeah, Irene took me there. Who told you that ? Sohyun ?”

 

“Suzy.” 

 

 

“Are we even close ?” Wendy agapes.

 

“You know that too….. I didn’t know how I bumped into her a few days ago, and she talked to me. Do you know how many stares I got within that 3 minutes ?”

 

“I guess she’s happy that I am gone.”

 

 

“Maybe…. She asked if I am still contacting you and of course I said I do. You’re my best buddy~~~”

 

“And ?” Wendy moves closer to Seulgi.

 

 

“And she asked how did you get to know Irene.”

 

“What did you say ?” Wendy fidgets a little.

 

“I said I don’t know.” Seulgi shrugs. “That’s the most reasonable answer I can make up. I said I know you know her but I don’t know how you know her.”

 

“Alright…..That’s good.” Wendy gets a bit dizzy.

 

 

 

“School isn’t fun without you.” Seulgi lays on Wendy’s bed.

 

“Joy will be there soon.” Wendy smiles.

 

“I hope so.”

 

 

 

 

They spend their time conversing and gossiping.

 

What most of the girls would do with their friends.

 

 

 

 

Wendy is happy again.

 

 

Seulgi leaves for a moment since she is going to get Joy here.

 

 

 

Our Olaf doesn’t want to bother Taeyeon again and she sends a text to her cabbage.

 

 

 

“Is everything going fine ? 0.0 Text me back when you have time. Rest more. Fighting <3”

 

 

And she goes back to sleep.

 

 

Her biological clock has been completely reversed lately.

 

 

 

 

Until someone wake her up again when the sky is getting dark. 

 

 

 

“Joy…. I am getting some sleep here….. Go find your bear.”

 

 

 

 

“Wendy. Get up now.” 

 

 

 

It’s Taeyeon’s voice.

 

 

 

“Unnie ? I thought you are working ?” 

 

“Something happened. Get changed. Quick.” Taeyeon looks strangely serious, making the young girl worried.

 

 

 

“What happened ?” Wendy stands up and opens her wardrobe with her trembling hands.

 

 

She has a bad feeling seeing Taeyeon’s reaction.

 

 

 

 

“It….. It’s Irene. She’s in the hospital now.” 

 

 

 

 

“WHAT ? WHY ? This is not a prank, right ?” Wendy grabs Tae’s shoulders and shakes them hard.

 

 

“I have no idea….. Sooyoung is injured too. Someone attacked them or something.” Taeyeon holds Wendy’s hands and calms her down. “Get changed and come with me.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Taeyeon runs the red-light several times. 

 

 

She doesn’t care if she would be fined later.

 

 

Because she doesn’t want to keep the other girl hanging there.

 

 

 

 

Instead of crying, Wendy is stunned. Dazed.

 

She is staring blankly at the front.

 

Expressionless.

 

 

 

 

 

Taeyeon grabs Wendy’s hand rushing to where Jessica told them to wait.

 

 

Outside of the operation room.

 

 

 

“Wendy.” Jessica comes up to the poor young girl.

 

“Unnie, what happened ? How’s she ?” Wendy looks at the older girl. 

 

You can tell she has been holding her tears back.

 

 

 

“As far as I know, two people ambushed them in the car park. One man, one woman. Irene’s head is injured when she was pushed to the ground. Sooyoung got her limbs and back hit. Both are severely injured.” Jessica gets choked a bit, describing the incident.

 

 

 

“How about the two people ?” 

 

Wendy still holds her tears and bites her bottom lip.

 

She looks scary.

 

 

 

“The man got caught. The woman ran away. The Police said they might be anti or sasaeng fans.” 

 

“Who is she ?” She grinds every words into her teeth.

 

“I don’t know. Wendy, don’t do anything stupid.” Jessica’s hand touches Wendy’s arm and realizes how cold she is.

 

 

 

“I have to know.” Her voice gets hoarse.

 

 

“What you have to do now is stay here with Irene.” Taeyeon gently puts her hand on Wendy’s back.

 

 

 

“Wendy-ah, she needs you.” Seulgi gives her a side-hug.

 

“Unnie, you have to be strong for Irene-unnie.” Joy also joins in.

 

 

 

“I know …. J-Just give me a minute.”

 

 

 

 

Wendy pulls away and sits on a bench alone.

 

She keeps blinking and hyperventilating.

 

Glancing back and forth at the door and the dark night view.

 

Her hands are clutched. Her knuckles turn white.

 

 

 

There is no star tonight.

 

No moon.

 

Nothing.

 

 

Plain dark.

 

 

 

The others watch her with a heavy heart.

 

 

 

The second she closes her eyelids and tears explode.

 

Uncontrollably.

 

 

She is now weeping into her palms.

 

Like a lost child.

 

 

 

Please don’t take her away. 

 

I am willing to do anything for her.

 

Even if it’s me to be in there. 

 

 

 

“Even if I have closed my eyes, tears fall.

Taeyeon approaches her quietly and sits beside her.

 

She hands her a handkerchief.

 

 

 

Wendy takes it and wipes her unstoppable tears.

 

 

 

Tiffany and Sunny also arrives at the scene.

 

Jessica explains to the situation to them.

 

 

 

The national star and her manager also starts crying.

 

And pray.

 

 

 

They wait and wait.

 

 

 

And Irene’s parents are finally here too.

 

They are as shocked as Wendy did.

 

 

 

Nobody there don’t have tears on their faces.

 

 

 

They go up and comfort Wendy.

 

 

 

“I’m sorry Seunghwan-ah…… My daughter has such misfortune and …. ”

 

“We’d never blame you.”

 

 

 

“I’m sorry too.” Wendy answers in her cracked voice. “Joohyun would be fine.”

 

 

 

“You’re such a good girl.” Irene’s mother holds her hand.

 

“She is too.” 

 

 

 

“The doctors are out !!!!” Irene’s father shouts. “How’s my daughter ?”

 

 

 

One pulls down his mask and speaks.

 

 

“Both patients are stable. Bae Joohyun does not have any severe injuries except for her head trauma. There are blood stasis near her brain and she might suffer from temporary memory loss or blindness. We cannot be sure yet. Blood stasis normally would disappear naturally after a period of time and the effects would also disappear. But for how long… It depends on the patient herself.”

 

 

“As for Choi Sooyoung, her head is fine but there are multiple fractures in her ribs and her left arm. She cannot move or walk until she is fully recovered. It will take at least five to seven months. Not to mention the time for further physical therapy.”

 

 

“Both of them need rest. We will keep a close eye on their conditions and do our best for their recovery. Considering their injuries and blood loss, they might not be awake so soon. But families and friends can visit them anytime.”

 

 

 

“Thank you doctors.” Irene’s parents take a deep bow.

 

 

 

“At least they are safe.” Taeyeon is relieved a bit.

 

 

 

“Yeah…… ” Wendy nods weakly. “So Seulgi and Joy, you guys can go home first. There’s school tomorrow.”

 

 

“Are you sure you’re be fine ?” Seulgi asks worriedly.

 

 

“There’re others here. You guys should rest.” Wendy smiles weakly.

 

 

“Take care of yourself, unnie.” Joy hugs Wendy and leaves with Seulgi.

 

 

 

Tiffany also leaves because she has to fly to Japan tomorrow.

 

 

Leaving Wendy, Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny and Irene’s parents.

 

 

 

“Seunghwan.” Irene’s father pats her shoulder.

 

“Yes ?” 

 

“If ….. touchwood ….. Joohyun is blind or her memory is lost, what would you do ?”

 

“Staying with her. What else can I do ? The doctor said it’s temporary.” Wendy looks at him.

 

 

“What if it is not ? What if she can’t see for the rest of her life ?”

 

“I won’t leave her. Even she can’t see or remember me.” 

 

“You deserve someone better. I am not breaking you two up but you have to face the reality.”

 

“You are telling me to dump your daughter when she needs someone to support her ? I love her as much as you do.” Wendy looks furious. 

 

“Calm down. You two. Joohyun won’t like to see this.” Irene’s mother speaks up.

 

 

“She has already owned you so much…… And now…. ” Irene’s father sighs.

 

“She doesn’t owe me anything.”

 

“I don’t want her to be your burden.”

 

“I love her.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wendy is sitting next to Irene’s bed the whole night.

 

 

While her parents have gone to rest in their relative’s home since they are getting old and tired.

 

 

Taeyeon and Jessica have left to buy necessary goods for Wendy and Sunny, whom are accompanying their girlfriends in the hospital.

 

 

 

 

 

Wendy begins to sob seeing the bandages on Irene’s pale face.

 

 

It hurts her more than it’s herself gets hurt like this.

 

 

 

She just prays to whatever god that her cabbage would recover soon.

 

She doesn’t know what to do if Irene really doesn’t remember her or can’t see when she wakes up.

 

 

 

But as long as she is alive, everything will be fine.
