Do You Want To Find Out?
Of Airplanes, Lists and Break-upsChapter 32
The group finally made to leave the café, paying their bills and waving goodbye. Kris happily put the note with Kyungsoo's number in his jacket. Gingerly patting the pocket he left out the door with the rest of the group.
When they had walked for a bit, Luhan trailed behind to where Jongdae was walking alone.
"You know. I couldn't help but notice that not only Minseok was covered in flour. You were as well. Still is." Luhan said nonchalantly.
"Yeah, so?" Jongdae brushed away some of the flour on his pants, never looking directly at Luhan.
"So?"
Luhan pushed Jongdae to the side and into a dimly lit alley. He pressed him against the wall while caressing his cheek.
"So. I don't particularly like sharing. Minseokie, is mine. And as soon as he stops being in denial, he'll come to me. Not you. Spare yourself the heartache and move on." Luhan let go of Jongdae and turned to leave.
"You know. Minseok hyung... was my first kiss." Jongdae leaned against the wall, staring into space.
"Wha..."
"He was comforting me. I had just turned 16 which should've been a joyous day. Not for me. My parents had earlier that day discovered my... preference in . They had told me how it was wrong and that I would grow out of it. That I was disgusting. And I believed them. Minseok hyung was just a stranger then, but he found me crying in an alley just like this. He sat down next to me. He offered me his homemade sweet custard bread, putting his arm around my shoulder." Jongdae smiled fondly at the memory.
Jongdae was silently crying into the strangers shoulder. The young looking guy had just offered him one of Jongdae's favorite street vendor snacks which he gleefully had eaten. It seemed like his tears were finally coming to an end. But the sound of his parents' words still rung as clear as day in his head, 'You are disgusting.'
"Disgusting."
The stranger turned his head towards him.
"What did you say?"
Jongdae sat up straight. Pulling his knees up to his chest, he hid his head between his legs.
"I'm disgusting."
"Why would you say that?"
"Because it's the truth."
"Don't say that. You're not disgusting."
"Yes I am! I am filthy and gross and disgusting!" Jongdae yelled at the stranger while scooting away from him. The stranger was taken aback with Jongdae's actions but soon calmed down. He put his hand on Jongdae's shoulder who was quick to shake him off.
"Don't touch me!"
The stranger retreated his hand.
"I'm sorry..."
Jongdae sighed.
"No it's. I'm... I am... I'm gay."
Jongdae was awaiting the punch he was sure was coming. It never did. Instead he was met with a ringing laughter.
"Why is that so funny?"
"Because. You are not disgusting. But you are stupid."
Jongdae defensively crossed his arms, frowning at the boy.
"There is nothing wrong with being gay. You love who you love right? How can that be wrong?"
"... I. I don't know. But my parents..."
"Couldn't be more wrong."
Jongdae hugged his knees, mumbling quietly.
"It's not that I... I mean. I haven't even... I've never... kissed anyone before. So I'm not really sure. But I've never had the urge to kiss a girl as much as I want to kiss a boy."
The stranger had pursed his lips for a moment.
"Do you want to find out?"
Jongdae's mouth fell open. Had the stranger just offered to kiss him? To that Jongdae could only nod yes. The stranger stood up and walked towards him. He stopped in front of Jongdae and squatted down. He shyly smiled at him before he slowly leaned in.
"Close your eyes."
Jongdae's eyes shut immediately. He could feel the stranger's warm breath on his skin. His heart was beating furiously in his chest as he waited what felt like a lifetime before he felt soft lips gingerly pressing against his own. Jongdae thought his chest was going to explode from the feeling when suddenly it was gone. Frantically he opened his eyes, fearing the stranger had just left without another word. But instead of an empty alley he was met with a boyish grin. The boy took his hand.
"I'm Minseok."
Jongdae couldn't help but start laughing.
"Isn't it a little late for introductions?"
"Better late than never. Plus I would like to know the name of the first guy I've ever made out with, so I don't have to refer to you as that stranger I kissed."
Stifling a laugh Jongdae shook Minseok's hand.
"My name is Jongdae."
Jongdae learned that Minseok wasn't gay but had nothing against homouals. Minseok had given him his phone number just in case he needed someone to talk to. Jongdae had been and still was incredibly grateful to his hyung who had saved him from his self-hatred but Minseok had also helped him realize that there was no doubt anymore. He was definitely, gay.
"Minseok hyung took time out of his day to comfort at crying stranger. He helped him accept himself and to face his parents.
"You don't deserve him. You say you love him yet you fool around with a guy 4 years younger than yourself, just because you can. That is not love."
Jongdae pushed himself off the wall and strolled past a wide-eyed Luhan. Just before he exited the alley he stopped.
"Maybe you should take your own advice. Move on now, before you'll get your heart broken." And then he was gone.
Luhan stumbled home in a daze that night.
Kyungsoo was clearing the tables with Jongin. Their last customer had finally gone home, allowing the small café to close up.
"So... this Kris person? Why did you kiss him?" Jongin tried to sound as careless as he could even though his body was filled with an unwelcome jealousy.
"Because, Kyungsoo is a fool and meticulously follows his 'should've, could've' list as he so nicely calls it." Minseok came out from the kitchen with leftovers to share.
"A list?" Sehun was leaning over the counter, definitely not sleeping.
"The 'secret' list, hyung." Kyungsoo shoot Minseok a dirty look while grabbing the broom that Sehun should've been occupying.
"Whatever. It's still stupid and so not you." Minseok jumped up on the counter next to Sehun's slumped over body.
"That's the point. I was in a relationship since I was 14. I never had the chance to do all these crazy things while it was still plausible. And I was boring and no fun. And stuck."
"So that's why you've been acting differently. But that doesn't really answer why you kissed the guy." Jongin stopped picking up plates looking intently at his hung. Kyungsoo sighed as his sweeping seized.
"I don't know. I just thought it'd be a fun experience." Kyungsoo huffed. "Also Kris made it way too enjoyable. He is very naive. I like that about him." Kyungsoo smiled to himself. Jongin wanted to gag.
"Okay... So apart from sleeping around and hitting on guys, what else is on this list of yours?" Sehun approached Kyungsoo, taking the broom out of his hands.
"Just stupid things I haven't done. It's not complete though. I keep adding new things to the list."
"Well. If you need help with anything..." Sehun suggestively let his hand run up and down the broom shaft. Jongin stormed up and hit him on the back of his head.
