In the movies, I’d be that witty, lovable girl who falls in love with the perfect guy. And what, live happily ever after? I’m sorry to disappoint. No matter how much the director would sugar-coat everything, it’d still be that same old sad movie. That same old sad movie where the guy and the girl fall in love only to be separated by Mother Nature herself. But this isn’t a movie, and there’s no happy ending. If it was a movie, I could smile and pretend there was, and that I wasn’t going to die.   I dragged my bulging red suitcase behind me, pushing my sunglasses to cover my eyes better. When I told my parents that I was flying to South Korea to spend my last moments with Kevin, they told me to stop being so silly, that I’d end up dying on the plane there. It was only when I called a taxi and boarded a plane that they took my request seriously. Now here I was in the airport, about to call Kevin and ask him to pick me up. The phone rang a few times before bleeping “please leave a message after the tone” the voice called out. I sighed and pressed the end call button. Now without a clue which direction to walk in, I picked up another taxi and gave the driver the address of Kevin’s house. The driver set off slowly and looked at me in the mirror. “You do know that this address takes you to an idol’s house, right?” he raised his eyebrow at me. I rolled my eyes. “If you think I’m a sasaeng, you’re wrong. I know them.” I explained briefly. He nodded and continued driving, not looking back up at me until a few minutes later. “May I ask how you know him? Sister? Friend? Girlfriend?” he asked excitedly, making me smile. “Girlfriend. Of three and a half years.” I grinned at him proudly, watching his eyes widen. Once he had calmed, he spoke again. “You speak Korean well.” I nodded in appreciation. “Yeah, Kevin taught me a little, with the help of Eli and AJ too.” I laughed, remembering that lesson. The taxi stopped with a small screech and he smiled back at me. “Here we are Ms Woo.” He teased. My cheeks flushed. “Thank you sir.” The driver let out a small laugh at my embarrassment.   I pulled my suitcase from the boot of the car and walked up to the front door. I hope his family don’t mind. I lifted my hand to the doorbell. What if they do mind?  I pressed the doorbell and waited. After a couple of minutes, Kevin’s noona Deanna opened the door. She smiled at me in surprise. “Aecha! What are you doing here? I thought you were living back in California still?” She pulled me in for a tight hug, leaning her chin on my shoulder. “I am. I just missed you all!” “Yeah right. You mean you missed Kevin?” she laughed, knowing me all too well. I nodded. “He’s not in at the moment but come in. I’m sure my mum will be glad to see you again.” Deanna took my suitcase up to the guest room and I looked for Kevin’s mum, finding her in the kitchen preparing lunch. “Annyeong Mrs Woo!” I called out from the doorway. She paused and turned around, gasping and reaching out for a hug. “It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” “Oh Aecha, Kevin will be so surprised to see you when he gets back!” she sat me down at the table. “When will he be back, do you know?” I asked. Mrs Woo shrugged, setting food in front of me. “B-but isn’t this for you and Deanna?” I questioned. She shrugged again, pushing the plate to me. “I can make more, it’s alright. I know you love Kimchi soup sweetie. Welcome back.”   I spent the rest of the week catching up with Deanna and Mrs Woo. Deanna showed me what her room looked like now. It wasn’t much different, to be honest, but she had more bookshelves now and a slightly bigger wardrobe. We sat on her bed, my back to her, as she braided my post-shower hair. “Your hair is so soft. Tell me how you manage it!” I could tell Deanna was pouting behind me. Three years ago, my black hair had barely reached my shoulders. Now, it cascaded down like a river, stopping just short of my ribs. “I don’t do anything different. I guess I must have been born with it.” Deanna was busy clipping stray hairs ba
