If I’d have known I’d bump into him again, I’d have hidden in the corner; anywhere that would mean not having to see his face again. I don’t hate him, of course not – he was my very first love. It’s just that I wasn’t sure what to say to him, after all, it’s been 7 and a half years since I even caught a glimpse of him. He was the same old boy I used to know; but somehow completely different.   It was a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon, I was lazing around in my favourite chair, my feet on the table, holding a mug filled with banana milkshake and listening to the birds outside the window. A soft little breeze fluttered in through the window, carrying along the smell of freshly baked bread. My stomach groaned, practically begging me to go over there right this instant and eat some. That was when my phone had begun to ring. My stomach whined in protest but I ignored it. “Yeoboseyo!” my friend, Bohee chimed (loudly as ever) down the phone. I sighed. This woman.   Bohee and I got in her car, ready to go dress shopping, when my stomach growled again. I smiled apologetically at her and she just laughed before rolling her eyes and driving me to the bakery. It was a small but homely place, with a lovely warm fire and quiet music playing in the background. She sat down at a table while I stood in front of the counter, deciding what I wanted to order. I finally decided to buy some mantou buns (after many minutes of staring at the various types). I plopped my plate down on the table with a quiet clink and slid into the seat across from Bohee. Bohee stopped texting on her phone and reached her hand out quickly to steal a bun. I slapped her hand as she grinned, popping it in and sticking out her tongue. “Such a kid.” She giggled like a small child and replied. “Says you.” I smiled and tasted a bun for myself. “So, on the topic of dresses, what kind of dress would you go for?” I asked her curiously. She shrugged. “Like… halter neck? Sleeveless? Lace? One shouldered? Long sleeved or short?” She blinked, now realising that picking a dress took more than just instinct to find the perfect one. I laughed, devouring another bun. “It’s not going to be that bad. Come on, what kind of dress do you like? You don’t have to think of wedding dresses here, just dresses in general.” I suggested. Bohee sighed. “You know me, I like cute dresses. Would they do any in a wedding dress shop?” I finished off the last of the buns and took her wrist, leading her to the nearest dress shop.   We did manage to find a rather cute wedding dress. She looked like a snow princess and I wondered why my wedding day didn't feel this glorious. She laughed at me when I went to walk back to the car, pulling on my wrist and taking me back to the dress shop. I stared at her in confusion for a while, before realising that she wanted me to be her bridesmaid. I resisted at first, telling her that I wasn’t the dress type of girl, but she insisted on buying me a dress too. In the end, she picked out a long, pale pink dress that had sequins on the top. I groaned behind her. “Bohee-ah, it’s too fancy.” She smiled innocently. “What’s too fancy? Look, it’s my big day we’re shopping for here, and I won’t have you hiding at the back of the church in a jacket and worn out jeans, capiche?” I sighed.   The wedding had gone smoothly. Even though I was stood in a beautiful dress next to my best friend from childhood, I couldn’t help noticing a pair of eyes on me. I directed my eyes to the person discreetly, finding the owner. The redhead smiled at me, gazing at my face intently. I could feel my cheeks heating up, so I turned my face away. I had to last until the end of the wedding ceremony. That’s it, and then I’d probably never see him again. Except I did.   I took another sip of the juice punch as I saw him approaching me. This cannot be happening. “Minji-ah.” he whispered gently. I looked up at him through my eyelashes. “You look beautiful.” I mumbled a thanks, my face heating up. His fingers brushed under my chin, before pulling away. “How much has changed in 7 years? I bet it’s a lot.” I took another sip to hydrate my throat. “I got married 2 years ago. You?” I asked, looking away from him. Why was I even interes
