There is a Chinese legend that when a baby is born, one end of an invisible red thread is tied to their pinky finger. The other end, to their true soul mate. According to the legend, this thread way twist and bend, but it will never break. That is because that thread is the red string of fate.   I first met my brother Sunggyu’s friends when Sunggyu was stuck babysitting me due to the fact our parents were on a date that night. Their first date since I was born, actually. Sunggyu sat on the sofa sleeping, his head hanging back. I crossed my arms as I heard the doorbell ring. I shook him but he flicked my hand away. I then pulled one of the earbuds out of his ear, making him sit up immediately. "What do you want?” he hissed. I rolled my eyes. He’s always like this when I wake him up. The doorbell rang again, softening his expression. “Oh,” he mumbled, smiling at me apologetically. I shrugged and waited for him to let his friends in. “Hey bros! How’s it going?” I heard my brother greet them, and I nearly burst out laughing just from hearing it. My brother always tries to act like that in front of his friends, but in reality he’s a cuddle monster;  a complete loser. I always poked fun at him for it, and every time he’d get me in a headlock and tickle me until I apologised to him. Sunggyu and I always had a strange relationship. We’d argue over the littlest things and insult each other at every opportunity. We’d purposely annoy each other all the time, but when it came to it, Sunggyu would always protect me. He once said that he’s allowed to bully me and pick on me, but if anyone else tries, he’d whip out the shotgun. Yeah, I’m not sure if I should be honoured or afraid.   Six boys came through, shuffling their feet noisily, the smell of ‘boy’ even worse now. The tallest of them all fell silent, his eyes moving to me. His heart-shaped lips stretched into a gummy grin as he turned to Sunggyu. “Hyung, is that your dongsaeng? She’s pretty cute!” he was answered with the back of Sunggyu’s hand slapping the back of his head. “Ouchie!” I inwardly rolled my eyes. He scratched his head, glancing over at me awkwardly. “Umm, do you have lice or something?” His eyes widened. “No!” he denied quickly, blushing a deep shade of scarlet. I laughed at him. The boy avoided my gaze, deciding to sit over the other side of the room. The other boys joined him, except for Sunggyu, who sat near me. He smiled over at me and the boys started to play a video game. I watched them play, sometimes staring at some of his friends. Secretly, I wanted to get to know them, but I knew that if Sunggyu had anything to do with it, that would never happen. I’d told him several times that I was an adult now, and that I could fend for myself. Big brothers, eh? Seeing that the boys had their eyes fixed on the screen, and knowing that it wouldn’t change for at least a few more hours, I creeped upstairs quietly, briefly catching the tall boy’s eye for a second.   I sat in my messy room, deciding to make the most of my spare time and clean up. I put my jumpers and shoes back in my wardrobe and fixed my books and homework sheets in a neat pile. Plopping on my bed, I put in my earbuds and my mp3. My homework sheets sat in front of me as I picked one up, leaning on a book to write. My mind floated away somewhere between trying to answer the questions on the sheet and listening to the words flooding my ears. I put my homework down and picked up my special book. I opened its royal blue cover and ran my fingertips over the paper, over the words sprawled across the pages. I turned to a new page, the tip of my pen resting on the empty paper. A new song blasted through my ears, as I remembered the way my brother’s fingers had glided across the piano keys that day when I recorded it. Little did he know I still remembered that tune… I pressed repeat, the ink in my pen beginning to write words. I changed my mind once or twice, crossing out my ideas and changing them over and over, until a satisfied grin appeared on my face. “What are you smiling at?” a voice asked. My eyes searched for the owner, finding the tall boy leaning against the frame of my bedroom door, his arms folded over his chest. I bit my lip, looking down at the lyrics I’d written. “Umm…” I hummed. “Promise not to tell Sunggyu?” The tall
