In The Shadows

~~~Krystal POV~~~

“Tell me more, tell me more!!”, I bounced up and down nudging at Sulli.

“Will you stop it? Why are you always like this? Always Kibum Kibum Kibum! ~ I spent so much effort getting here and all you have to talk about is Kibum!” Sulli shouted. I looked at her scared.

“But…” I started tearing up, “..ok I’m sorry ~ but you don’t understand what it’s like for someone you like to be so cold towards you ~ Heechul Oppa is so nice to you” I sobbed. It’s quite ironic that we have a crush on each other’s brothers but as I said at least my brother pays her some attention! Her brother avoids me like the plague…

“There there ~ you see that’s why we don’t talk about it ~ it just makes you sad.” Sulli said softly patting my hand, Sulli is such a sweet girl, I don’t see what so many people have against her. “Now we have better things to be thinking about ~ like… the newest Alice dress! Have you seen it? It has a puffy shoulder sleeve which thins out and a widely pleated skirt from the empire line ~ I bought a blue one but the fruit ahjumma in the market got juice all over it!” Sulli hissed.

“Yeah umma brought me a lilac one and Luna unnie a soft yellow one~ It’s quite pretty I guess ~ haven’t worn it yet…” I replied with little interest, I was too depressed to talk about clothes.

“Sigh ~ this is hopeless” Sulli grabbed me and pulled me up. I looked at her puzzled.

“Huh? What are you doing?”

“I’m taking you to the kitchen ~ you need a heavy dose of cake!” She said excitedly as she dragged me over to the kitchen.

We made our way to the dessert corner of the kitchen where a couple of chefs were either making the day’s food or experimenting with new ideas.

“You,” She pointed at one of the chefs, “Get us cake!” She ordered. The chef bowed and brought out huge chocolate cakes. Cake is a good cure for depression, even the first mouthful really warmed me up inside. We sat there for some time eating the cake and talking about the daily gossip in the castle.

“Oh the twins are hardly together anymore~! Eunhyuk oppa always goes out~ I hardly ever see Donghae oppa with him these days.” Sulli pouted, complaining about her curfews.

“Donghae oppa is always in the castle. He wonders around looking really lost. Or he goes to the lake and plays with the fish...” I said dully. 

“Oh? And recently Siwon oppa has been going missing a lot~ not sure where he goes but Amber keeps running around looking for him.” Sulli added. How strange. We talked for a while speculating what could have happened and making up stuff to keep us entertained.

“Well I have to go now before Oppa says I’m ‘abusing my privileges’ and locks me up again.” Sulli said sadly an hour later while finishing off her cake.

“But it’s still early!” I whined.

“Well by the time I get back It’s going to be late ~ I better go ~ look at it this way if I stick to Oppa’s rules then I can come more often ^_^” Sulli smiled hugging me gently.

“Ok then…” I said sadly

“Aww cheer up, the sky isn’t falling yet...” She grinned and skipped off.

When Sulli left the kitchen I headed towards the vegetable patch around the back to get some fresh air. While I was admiring the view I noticed a shadow amongst the trees. I felt curious so I went closer to see what or who it was. It looked strangely like Kibum Oppa, or is it just me hallucinating? Wanting to make sure I decided to follow the shadow.

The shadow headed into the woods, by this time it was getting dark. I looked around... I lost the shadow. Now I think I'm lost too...

“What are you doing?” Came a voice from behind me.

“Kibum Oppa?” I turned around quickly to find some verification.

“I said what are you doing here...” The figure said darkly, it was Kibum oppa’s voice but I couldn’t be too sure in the dark.

“I..I.. I saw you so.. I wanted to come and say hello.” I stuttered, afraid the figure was someone else who may harm me.

“When did you start following me?” He asked. There was a harshness to his voice.

“Wh..what.?”

“I said when did you start following me!” He pushed me against the tree, his hand pinned my shoulders against the bark. He was so close that I could feel his warm breath against my face... my heart leapt. Now I am sure it is Kibum oppa.  I felt reassured that it wasn’t some freak but at the same time there was a weird dark aura emanating from Kibum oppa.

“When you passed the vegetable patch outside the kitchen” I told him quickly, he stared at me for a while as if trying to figure whether I was lying or not. I couldn’t help but fall into those eyes of his, he was just so close… the closest he has ever been. After a few seconds, although it seemed longer, he let me go and walk away with a warning.

“Don’t follow me again.” The aura surrounding him was darker than the actual forest. But I couldn’t help but to take my chances…

“What were you doing?” I asked nervously, still rooted against the tree unable to move.

“None of your business ~” He stopped but didn’t look back, “now go back to the palace, they’ll be looking for you.” He said before disappearing into the forest again.

“Why are you always like this!” I shouted in frustration in his direction.

“So mean…” I muttered under my breath as I stared at the spot he was standing a minute ago…
