15 – The Girl Who learns to smile
The Girl Who...
The doe-eye girl stayed close to her employer while in the crowded mansion, as her employer conversed with the other people casually yet formally. Looking around she could see a few young men staring at her employer, or maybe even her. She didn’t bother, as long as they don’t come over. Music starts to play, and the people begin to stand clear of the large empty space, and couples enter for a dance. Sooyoung held Yoona’s hand and led her to the side to sit down, not wanting to take part in any activity anymore.
“I hate this kind of event… Why must Tiffany organize such formal event for her birthday party…” The tall girl sighed as she rested her elbow on the armrest of the fancy sofa, and her head on her hand. She forgets about the fact that she’s holding Yoona’s hand, and the latter did not say anything about it. “Waste of time and tiring too…”
“Choi Sooyoung ssi?” Just then, a young guy approaches the two girls, looking from the tall girl to the doe-eye girl, then back to the tall girl. The tall girl looks up at the guy lazily, trying hard not to look uninterested. The guy offers his hand with a smile. “May I?”
“I’m sorry. I’m very tired now.” Sooyoung replied with a smile, sounding as politely as possible. The guy nodded and turned to the doe-eye girl, but before he could say anything, Sooyoung added. “She’s not a guest. She’s my personal helper.”
“O… Oh. I see. Sorry for bothering you.” The guy bows at the two of them and walks away with a sigh.
“Sooyoung, my dear… Why are you sitting here?” After sitting there for nearly twenty minutes, her mother came over with her father. “Why aren’t you dancing with someone?”
“I’m tired, mum… And Yoona will be alone if I go for a dance.” Sooyoung replied, getting up slowly and lazily, pulling Yoona along. “Dad, this is my personal helper, Yoona.”
“Good to see you, sir.” The doe-eye girl bows politely at the middle aged man beside Sooyoung’s mother.
“Thanks for helping my useless daughter with her work.” The man smiles and pats the girl on her shoulder.
“DAD!” Sooyoung blushed, embarrassed about what her father just said.
“It’s my honor to serve Master, sir.” Yoona replied.
“Sooyoung, you have to cherish her, alright? I don’t want to hear anything about you mistreating your employees again. I heard from your mother that she’s very capable, so you better cherish her okay?”
“Uncle, she’s already mistreating her~” Just then, a short girl appears suddenly. The tall girl almost wanted to hit the girl but she controlled herself. After all, she’s at a formal event with important guests, and the girl is the main star of this event.
“You what…?” The man turns to the tall girl with a raised eyebrow.
“Alright. I admit. I kind of mistreated her…” Sooyoung looks away, wanting to scratch her head in embarrassment but the doe-eye girl stopped her, in case she ruins the hairstyle. “But I promise I will stop… Or at least try to…”
“You HAVE to, Choi Sooyoung. I will get Tiffany to check on you frequently. If I hear report of you mistreating Yoona ssi, you will get it from me.” The man warned his daughter, before turning to the doe-eye girl with a smile. “Yoona ssi, if she dares mistreat you, come and find me. I will revenge for you.”
“Master is treating me well, sir.” Yoona replied, bowing again.
“I see that you got a loyal helper here, Sooyoung.” The man laughed, as his hand moves from the girl’s shoulder to her head. Yoona’s eyes widen instantly, and she looks up at the man, looking slightly surprised. Somehow, the corner of starts to twitch and without her knowing, she’s smiling. “Oh? You know how to smile? From just now, you have that straight face so I thought you didn’t know how to smile.”
“She likes getting pats. Right, Yoona?” Sooyoung grins, as she wraps her arm around Yoona’s shoulder, patting Yoona’s head from the side. She leans closer and whispers to the girl, telling her to remember the facial expression that she is showing now. “This is call smiling, Yoona. Remember it well, and do it when I tell you to.”
“Yes, Master.”
“Are you talking bad about me?” Tiffany pouted.
“Yes. Yes. I’m talking about how unglamorous you are when you’re young, and a lot more. And I’m telling Yoona to spread it as much as possible to everyone in this mansion.” Sooyoung replied with a smirk.
“Y… Yah! C… Choi Sooyoung!” Tiffany stomps her foot and puffed up her cheeks angrily, but her anger vanished when the taller girl ruffles her hair playfully.
“Just kidding, pabo. Happy birthday.”
“J… Jeez… How can you make a birthday girl angry?! And you’re messing up my hair!” Tiffany grumbled and the group of them laughed, except for the doe-eye girl of course.
