Chapter 27

The Only Exception

It was the middle of the school day and Kyungsoo was on his way to class with Baekhyun. They were squeezing through the hallway that was packed with students. During this period was the most difficult for Kyungsoo to get to class because there was only one senior class on this floor at the end of the hall and the rest of the classes varied in grade levels. Most of Kyungsoo's classes were on the top floor which had only one junior class and the rest were senior classes. He was just glad that this was his last year at this school.

"Are you free after school today?" Kyungsoo asked once they had settled in their seats.

"Erm, no I'm not. Sorry Kyung." Baekhyun chuckled nervously. Kyungsoo narrowed his eyes at him.

"What are doing then?"

"Chanyeol's taking me to dinner." He avoided Kyungsoo's eyes.

"W-What? You never told me you guys were together!" Kyungsoo practically yelled until Baekhyun quickly clamped his hand over his mouth.

"Be quiet! A-And we're not....together. I haven't told him about my feelings yet."

"You've known each other for years Baek. Isn't it obvious that he likes you?"

"I-I don't know. He's really playful so sometimes his actions come across as...I don't know? Brotherly?" Baekhyun honestly looked confused. Kyungsoo chuckled lightly.

"Because it's 'brotherly' to send erted texts. You're kidding right?" Kyungsoo raised an eyebrow as Baekhyun's cheeks brighted up with a tint of pink.

"Alright. I'll try to tell him tonight." Kyungsoo patted him on the back softly.

"You'll be fine, okay? Don't worry." He gave him a small smile to which Baekhyun returned.

Kyungsoo looked up and looked around the room to see that they still had time before the class would start. Their english teacher was always late so he was used to the free time at the beginning of class. His eyes widedend and his body went stiff when his gaze went towards the door. He saw Jia walking in, towards him and Baekhyun's table. He was shocked because this was definately not her class. He furrowed his eyebrows  as she walked up to him with her head down. Baekhyun soon followed Kyungsoo's gaze and saw what he was looking at. He rolled his eyes and sat back in his seat with his arms folded across his chest.

"K-Kyungsoo oppa," she started. Baekhyun scoffed. "I know you said not to bother you anymore but....m-my mom's having a birthday party tomorrow and she asked if you w-would come." She said quietly. Kyungsoo frowned and turned to look at the window. Is she serious?

"He can't go." Baekhyun stated flatly, his eyes burning holes through her. She looked at Baekhyun and rolled her eyes.

"I don't remember asking you. Mind your business." She snarled.

"I don't remember this being your class. Get the fu-"

"Enough!" Kyungsoo yelled cutting him off. Baekhyun his teeth and began glaring at the students who were now watching the whole scene. He waited until they went back to what they were doing to turn back to Kyungsoo.

"Look, Jia. I-I'll think about it." Kyungsoo looked up at her. She gave him a small smile.

"Thanks a lot. I'll text you the details...if you decide to go." She trailed off. Kyungsoo just nodded and she her heel to leave the classroom, a smile still on her lips.

"Kyungsoo, what the hell was that? You aren't going are you?" Baekhyun asked once she was out of sight. Kyungsoo let out a sigh.

"I said I'd think about it. Besides, her mom was really nice to me. I-If her mom wants me there then....I shouldn't be cold to her."

"Whatever Kyungsoo. Just keep your guard up." Baekhyun said finally. Their conversation ended because their teacher walked into the classroom, ready to start his lesson.

Kyungsoo walked out of the school building with his backpack slung over one shoulder. He wasn't with Suho today because he had to tutor some kid who was failing. He figured if he'd get credits for doing it, why not? Kyungsoo hadn't seen Kai all day so he didn't want to risk going home to be locked out again. He's been thinking about getting a job. There would be no telling when his dad would stop putting money in his account and he wanted to be prepared so he decided that this was the best way to spend his friday night.

Kyungsoo walked to the nearest bus stop. He slowed his pace down when he saw Jia standing there. He was about to turn back when she turned around and waved at him, a grin stretched across her face. She had her phone pressed to her ear and Kyungsoo figured she wouldn't speak to him so he continued walking to the bus stop anyway. He stood awkwardly next to her and looked around as if he was in search for the bus. He couldn't help but hear Jia's conversation.

"Yeah. There isn't practice today so I'm coming home now. I'll be taking the bus with Kyungsoo." Kyungsoo's head whipped around to face her and widened his eyes. She just smiled at him as he listened to what she was saying.

"I asked him mom but he hasn't given me a definite answer yet.......okay I'll ask again." Jia put her phone to her chest and looked at Kyungsoo. "My mom asked if you're coming or not. She needs to know how much food to make." She fluttered her eye lashes like she was the most innocent person ever. Kyungsoo's jaw had dropped. He couldn't believe his luck.

"I-I um," Kyungsoo stammered. Jia leaned her head forward, egging him on. Kyungsoo ran his fingers through his short dark hair and just nodded, turning away from her.

"He said he's coming mom..........okay......I know......Bye~." Jia ended the call with her mom and stuffed her phone into her pocket.

Kyungsoo peered into the street, mentally wishing the bus would come faster.

"Thanks." Jia mumbled but Kyungsoo heard her clearly. He turned to face her again and saw her head down, shifting from one foot to the next.

"I'm doing this for your mom." Kyungsoo said flatly looking straight ahead. Jia looked up at him and smiled.

"I know. That's why i'm thanking you. My mom really likes you." Jia responded. A small smile came on Kyungsoo's lips. He remembered the way her mom always treated him. Always asking if he was doing well and fed him whenever she had the chance. Jia took note of his smile. It was always contagious and she had to admit, she missed being the one to make him smile.

They stood in silence for what seemed like forever until a bus came to the stop. They both got in and walked to the back. There were only two seats left which were next to each other. Kyungsoo sat in the seat next to the window and immediately looked outside. Jia remained standing. She knew Kyungsoo didn't want to sit next to her so she kept her distance. When Kyungsoo didn't feel a presence next to him, he looked away from the window and saw Jia standing up, avoiding his gaze.

"Sit." Kyungsoo said quietly. Jia looked at him and raised her eyebrows..

"It's okay. I'll stand." She said quietly and looked away.

"You have a long way. Just sit." Jia let out a small sigh before taking the seat next to Kyungsoo.

Tension filled the atmosphere. They would both take quick glances at each other to what the other was doing. Jia kept going in and out of her pocket to retrieve her phone. She spent most of the time playing games on her phone. When she finally got bored, she couldn't help but ask Kyungsoo a question.

"Um, D-Don't you live w-with that Kai kid?" Jia asked, looking at Kyungsoo from the corner of her eye. Kyungsoo, who was looking outside of the window, looked at her.

"How'd you know that?"

"I sort of overheard at lunch one day."

"Well yeah. I do. Why?" Kyungsoo furrowed his eyebrows.

"You usually walk in the other direction home so....I was wondering why you're taking the bus." Kyungsoo sighed.

"I'm going job hunting."

"Oh." Jia said with a nod.

Kyungsoo looked outside the window again. Seeing that he was in an area that had a lot of shops, he decided it would be best to get off here.

"I'm getting off now." Kyungsoo told Jia. She looked at him and abruptly got up so he could leave.

"I-I'll see you tomorrow?" She asked with a small smile.

"Yeah." Kyungsoo walked to the front of the bus just as it had stopped. Jia watched as Kyungsoo walked out of the bus, into the street until he was completely out of her sight.

When Kyungsoo got to the apartment building, it was alread dark. He walked to numerous places in the area looking for any job that was available. He didn't expect to go to every store but he just really needed to get a job soon. When he had checked every store that was within walking distance, he'd decided he'd check another time in another area.

Kyungsoo knocked on the door to Kai's apartment. He heard hurried foot steps getting louder and louder before the door swung open. Kai had a face that was filled with worry. He pushed his fingers through his hair and shut his eye. He let out a loud sigh.

"Do you know how worried I was?" Kai opened his eyes slowly. Kyungsoo bit his lip.

"I'm sorry. I was..erm...out." He mumbled. Kai sighed again and moved out of the way to let Kyungsoo inside. He walked to the couch after closing the door while Kyungsoo was taking off his shoes. Kyungsoo dropped his backpack by the door and walked quietly into Kai's room to change. After a few mintues, he walked out and into the living room, taking a seat next to Kai. The latter turned to look at him immediately.

"Where have you been?" Kai's voice rose higher than he had expected.

"I-I went to look for a job." Kyungsoo mumbled, looking down at his fingers.

"Oh." Kai was beginning to feel guilty for getting upset so quickly. "Why?"

"I don't know how long my dad's going to keep giving me money. I've got to be prepared." Kai nodded.

"Sorry...for raising my voice." Kai murmured. Kyungsoo chuckled making Kai turn to look at him, eyebrows furrowed.

"It's okay. You're just worried." Kyungsoo grinned at him.

"Give me your phone." Kai demanded. Kyungsoo was a bit taken aback but gave it to him anyway. Kai punched in a few buttons before giving the phone back to Kyungsoo.

"I put my number in. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner." Kai scratched the back of his neck and let out a low chuckled. Kyungsoo went through his contact list and beamed when he saw Jonginnie on the list. He couldn't help but giggle.

"That's cute."

"Me? I know right?" Kai smirked as Kyungsoo hit him on his arm. "Okay, you're cute?" Kai tried again but Kyungsoo just rolled his eyes.

"Shut up. I'm talking about what you put yourself under."

"Exactly. That makes me cute." Kyungsoo glared at Kai and the latter just chuckled. There was a comfortable silence soon after but Kyungsoo soon broke that silence.

"I saw Jia today." He said quietly. Kai head whipped around away from the televison towards Kyungsoo.

"What?" was all he could choke out.

"At the bus stop. W-We took the same bus." Kai didn't respond because he honestly didn't know what to say.

"She came to my class earlier today asking me to go to her mom's birthday party tomorrow and she asked me again at the bus stop." Kyungsoo continued.

"Are you going?" Kai grumbled.

"Yeah." Kai froze. He didn't know why he suddenly began to feel upset. Just the thought of Jia in the same room with Kyungsoo without him near by bothered Kai. It's not like we're...together, Kai thought to himself but that didn't stop him for feeling a bit agitated. Kyungsoo noticed Kai's expression.

"A-are you...upset?"

"No." Kai replied all too quickly.

"You are."

"I'm not."

"You. Are." Kai sighed and pursed his lips. Kyungsoo smiled.

"Why are you upset?" Kyungsoo asked.

"Because I don't like Jia with you." Kai mumbled quickly. Kyungsoo wasn't able to catch it though.

"What?"

"I don't like Jia with you." He said slower this time looking down at his lap.

"Don't worry about her. I'm only going for her mom." Kyungsoo reassured him but Kai's expression didn't change. Kyungsoo smiled and moved closer to Kai on the couch. He reached over to grab both of his hands in his. Kai looked at him, surprised by the sudden contact.

"Jongin, what are you worrying about, really?" Kyungsoo rubbed his thumbs across the back of Kai's hands. When he was about to turn away from Kyungsoo, he let go of one of Kai's hands and moved it to cup his chin. Kai's eyes widened because Kyungsoo was now dominating him.

"Tell me." Kyungsoo whispered.

"Kyungsoo....." Kai started. "I'm afraid she'll t-take you from me." Kyungsoo chuckled making Kai frown. He took his hand off of Kai's chin and took his other hand from Kai's.

"How will she take me from you if I'm not even yours?" Kyungsoo smirked. Kai was confused now, especially since Kyungsoo began laughing. Kai crossed his arms with a scowl on his face. He's playing with me. Kyungsoo stopped laughing after a while and shook his head. He climbed over Kai's legs and straddled him. Kai was in complete shock, his eyes bulging from their sockets.

"K-Kyungsoo-" Kyungsoo placed his finger over Kai's lips and shook his head. He leaned down and replaced his finger with his own lips and placed it on top of Kai's. The latter gasped and Kyungsoo slipped his tongue in swiftly. Kai wrapped his arms around Kyungsoo's waist, melting into the kiss. The kiss was all too short making Kai whine when Kyungsoo pulled away, both of them panting.

"Make me yours, Jongin." Kyungsoo whispered. His heart was jumping out of his chest. He wasn't expecting himself to be so confident but he knew he couldn't turn back now. Kai nodded feverishly and his grip around Kyungsoo's waist tightened. Kyungsoo grinned and wrapped his arms around Kai's neck, placing his face in the crook of his neck.

"Will you be my boyfriend?" Kai asked in a low whisper against Kyungsoo's reddening ear. The shorter boy shivered as Kai kissed his earlobe. Kyungsoo kissed Kai's neck as a reply, earning a soft mewl from the latter.

"I-Is that a yes?" Kai stuttured.

Kyungsoo just kissed Kai on his neck again and Kai knew then that Kyungsoo was definately his.
