Hearts are Made to be Broken

The exam week has started. The students study dilligently to achieve their best scores in every subject. Meanwhile we, the teachers, work hard to correct our students' answer sheets everyday.
Today is the third day and everything goes well.
Or at least I think so.
"Choi Songsaenim, what do you think about going to grab some drinks tonight?" Gikwang asks Eunye when she just enters the staff room with answer sheets in her hand. "It's near from here and they said the place is good."
Eunye answers him along with a sweet smile, "Sure. I will be glad to join with you guys."
My eyes follow her until she sits behind her desk. She takes care of her document before she looks up and our eyes meet for a second. She smiles at me and I feel heat creeps to my cheeks.
She has changed.
For an unknown reason, she becomes... how can I put it in word? More friendly? More cheerful? I don't know the right word to describe her change.
I know that all single male teachers in our school have interests with her. When she was close with me, they kept bugging me about what our relationship actually was. When the pictures of her and Sunggyu appeared, they also asked for explanation from me.
Junhyung once asked me if I believed the rumor about Eunye being a heartbreaker, days after the pictures spread. I only answered him with a smile that I believed in Eunye.
I knew that she was never serious about me. I guess my first kiss went to someone who doesn't return my feeling despite the fact that I love her truly.
"Woohyun," Eunye approaches me. Due to the surprise, I drop my pen. She chuckles and picks the pen for me, "Here you go. Why so nervous?"
"S-Sorry," I mumble and take the pen from her. I scratch my cheek with my finger awkwardly, "W-What is it, Eunye?"
She tilts her head aside, "About Gikwang's invitation. Will you come as well?"
"Eh? I don't think so... Why?" I ask her back in confusion. Don't tell me that she is actually asking me to go with her.
"Let's go together," she tells her true intention without doubt. She smiles wider, "It's always better to have a good companion!"
When I was going to ask why she asked me all of a sudden, my attention turns to Hoya who just entered the room. Gikwang asks him the same question he gave to Eunye.
"Tonight?" Hoya frowns, thinking about the answer. "I'm sorry but I need to meet my parents at their place. Maybe next time."
Ah, so he will not come tonight.
When I return my gaze to Eunye, I notice that she is looking at Hoya with gentle eyes. It's not the way of someone who looks at her best friend for sure.
"Eunye?" I call her name and she flinches a little. She blinks and smiles again to me. "I think I'll come tonight."
Her face beams and she tells me that she will check the answer sheets first. She returns to her desk, humming cheerfully as if she just received a lottery.
I wonder if something happened between her and Hoya.

♥ Eunye ♥
"Do you want to order anything, Eunye?" Dongwoo asks me politely, having a glass of beer by himself. "You should try the cocktail here. Check out the recommended menu."
I just give him a smile and say, "Thank you but I don't drink alcohol beverage. Maybe I will try them later. Thank you, Dongwoo."
He looks at me with surprise as he drops his jaw, "Wow! You just called me by name! Wow!"
I chuckle at his reaction, "Aren't we friends outside of Eungeum? Or do you mind if I call you by name only?"
"No! Absolutely no!" he grins from ear to ear. He looks really happy just by the simple treatment from me. "I always thought that you only paid attention for special persons. I thought you didn't know my name."
Dongwoo is not trying to mock me but his words actually make me feel sad. So that's how he saw me before, a girl who was only close with certain males for a reason.
How does everyone else look at me?
"Sorry to interrupt," Woohyun hits Dongwoo's shoulder lightly and smirks teasingly. "Everyone will think that you're flirting with Eunye, you know."
Dongwoo blushes then excuses himself to join the others on the dance floor. Meanwhile Woohyun sits next to me, having a glass of orange juice, "He is a good guy."
"I know," I answer, looking at my other colleagues. "All of them are. I just never gave my time to know them better."
"Can I ask you something, Eunye?" Woohyun puts the glass on the table, looking at me with curious look. "Why did you suddenly decide to come here? I thought you don't really like to come here."
"I don't," I answer honestly and intertwine my fingers together, "but I think it's time for me to start believing people."
Since the day I found out that Hoya met up with my brothers, I came to realize that I was a selfish girl who didn't care about what the world thought about me.
I just wanted to do whatever I wanted. I chose to put my faith in Hoya and once I realized that my feeling to Hoya had grown more than just friendly feeling, I was afraid that I would lose him.
The hatred feeling I developed in heart towards Sunggyu is actually nothing but my attempt to blame him and do more mistakes. I kept breaking hearts without thinking about the consequences.
When I knew that Hoya never stopped caring for me, my heart realized that maybe I just locked my heart from the world.
I just felt lonely.

Eunye's gaze is different from usual. There is something about her that makes me feel like I want to hug her and tell her that everything is going to be alright.
"It will take a while but I'll try my best to become a better person," she speaks up and then turns to me with a smile. "Will you help me, Woohyun?"
At first I was worried about her. Once we arrived at the night club, she didn't join with the others on the dance floor. She took a seat far from there and ordered an iced cappuccino.
When I saw Dongwoo approached her, I was surprised to see Dongwoo smiled so happily when he talked with Eunye. I think it's the first time they actually talked outside of school.
Now that I see her bright smile, I think I just worried too much.
She has a brave heart to break her own borders and I need to support her with all my heart; because I love her.
"All the time," I reply, feeling relieved now. It's a good thing that she actually talks to me like this now. Doesn't it mean she has more faith in me?
"Sunggyu...," she suddenly mentions a name between our conversation. "He doesn't come, does he?"
My heart skips a beat when she speaks his name. I don't know whether it's jealousy or not. I clear my throat awkwardly, "He said that he wanted to go somewhere alone."
"Is he...," Eunye stops and drops her gaze reluctantly. She takes a deep breath and continue, "Is he still with Bora?"
I don't know why she suddenly asked that question. I have no idea what kind of history she had with Sunggyu back then but I don't feel it's good to ask her about it.
"Ah, they broke up already before Sunggyu Hyung went to Los Angeles," I tell her. "I don't think they still keep in touch though."
Eunye frowns as if she is thinking about something serious. I ask her why she suddenly asked about her, knowing that she has her own reason.
"I know it sounds impossible but...," she hesitates for seconds. "I think she is the one who put the pictures of Sunggyu and I at school."
My eyes widen in shock when I hear her statement. She continues telling me about the moment she saw Bora when she waited at school. The school was dark but Eunye is sure it's Bora.
I can't come up with any idea why Bora should do that kind of trick. From Sunggyu's story, it's her who decided to end the relationship then why did she suddenly do such a dirty trick?
"Eunye, Woohyun!" Dongwoo shouts our name. He waves to us from the dance floor. "Let's take a picture together!"
Eunye leaves her seat and turns to me with a wide smile, "Let's forget about it for now. Come on, Woohyun."
Looking at her right now, I promise myself that I will protect that smile.
Even if it means I'm going to break my own heart again one day.
