Hearts are Made to be Broken

I am in a complete shock when I see Woohyun. He is glancing at Eunye and it's obvious that he doesn't expect me to see his girlfriend hugging me.
"Woohyun, don't get it wrong. We-" I want to stop Woohyun from the possible misunderstanding but Eunye stops me, holding my hand firmly as if she wants to tell me to let her talk.
She apologizes and I know that the apology is a sincere one. Let's just say that I can see through Eunye; I know when she is not lying or when she is telling the truth.
I have no idea what happened between her and Hyomin but I think it has changed her mind about the silly request of breaking Woohyun's heart. Eunye wants to stop it and she is doing it right now.
"Perhaps I shouldn't know it. Perhaps I should have ignored you from the start...," Woohyun smiles sadly, responding to Eunye's apology, "......but my heart's desire is you."
After that he excuses himself and, as a guy, I know that he is just trying to act strong on the surface. I can't judge neither of them because I never stand on their positions.
Yes, I have been in a relationship before during high school but I was never really serious about it. She was the one who confessed to me and I never really answered that confession.
Everyone just thought that we're a couple. She was also the one who broke up with me because I was too boring, because I never made her feel loved.
"Eunye," I call her when she leaves, walking away with gloomy atmosphere surrounding her. "Eunye!"
I walk through the crowd and catch up with her. I immediately stop her when we're already far from the crowd. We're walking pass the small park where I usually see random kids play football.
"You don't want to hurt him, do you?" I cup her cheeks but she shuts her eyes tight, avoiding the eyes contact. "Eunye, look at me. Eunye."
She slowly opens her eyes and looks at me directly. From her eyes, I can see that she is feeling really guilty that she doesn't know what to say or do.
"Woohyun has told you his heart's desire...," I sigh and let our foreheads to meet. "Now we just need to know yours to settle everything."
If she doesn't want to hurt Woohyun, I need to know if she has the urge to heal his heart. If she is thinking about Woohyun, there might be a chance of Woohyun has melted her heart even just for the slightest.
"Who is the person in your mind right now?" I blurt out the question, staring into her eyes.
"I...," Eunye mumbles slowly. She pushes me away slightly and covers nervously, "What kind of question is that?"
"A good question, I think," I ruffle her hair and smile warmly. "What kind of best friend who doesn't want the good thing for you?"
Strange enough I think Eunye is actually blushing. Her cheeks are shades pink but she tries to hide them with her hands. She pouts to me, "I want to eat ramen."
Three young boys walk pass us when I laugh at her cute reaction. I can hear one of them whistles, obviously trying to hit on Eunye. Another one whispers to his friend about how good looking Eunye is.
Eunye, who is not aware about them, just glances at them with confused look. At the same time, I take off my jacket and put it on her shoulder, making the boys to sigh with disappointment and walk away.
She asks me why I suddenly give her my jacket but I just ignore her and continue to walk to her apartment with her following me behind.
It's awkward to have guys trying to flirt your best friend when you're with her, isn' it? Maybe Eunye is not the prettiest girl out there but she is kind of popular; milky white skin, long shiny hair, and bright smile.
Well, maybe it's just me being the over-protective best friend.

"Thank you for the food," Eunye exclaims with a wide smile. She puts down the bowl and chopsticks before looking at me. "Your ramen is the best, Hoya!"
"I know," I chuckle and finish my food. She always says that everytime I cook for her even if it's just a simple ramen.
"Cocky Lee Howon!" she sticks out her tongue then stands up, cleaning up the table. "My best friend is the arrogant guy!"
"I know," I repeat again before joining her to the kitchen, helping her to wash the empty dishes, "but I'm still your only best friend, right?"
Eunye just smiles and continues to wash all the dishes. I help her to dry the dishes and then put them back to their place.
After she finishes the last one, she gives me a suspicious look, letting the water to keep going on. All of a sudden she sprays the water to me on purpose, making me wet just in a flash.
"Choi Eunye!" I turn off the faucet with disbelief look. She laughs because of my drenched hair happily but it doesn't stay long because I quickly strangle her playfully.
I circle my arm around her neck, pretending to choke her from behind, "Now, where do you think you're going, huh?"
"Huah! Hoya! Hoya! It hurts!" she squeaks and I let her go just to have her run away and sticks out her tongue at me.
"Hoya is pabo!" she teases me and runs to the main room. I rush to catch her and we end up in the little game of catch-me-if-you-can for around five minutes before I manage to catch her.
"Gotcha!" I wrap my left arm around her waist from behind, preventing her from running again. Eunye tries to struggle, giggling like a kid, but I hold her left shoulder with my right hand, "I got you, Eunye."
I look at her and I'm surprised to see her red cheeks. She has stopped laughing and now she doesn't say anything like how she always complained at me. Instead she slightly draws distance from me and quietly takes a seat on the couch.
Looking at her strange behavior, I decide to sit next to her and ask just in case I strangled her too tight, "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Sorry, I-"
I purse my lips when she cuddles to me, clutching my shirt weakly, "I'm tired..."
I just wanted to ask her about what Hyomin said to her but I think, like usual, it can wait. I'm just not the type of best friend who wants to know everything about her if she doesn't want to tell me yet.
"I know," I rest my chin on her head while one of my arms wrap her waist casually, like a big brother hugging his little sister. "I know."
Sometimes it seems impossible that the girl who always acts childish in front of me is the infamous heartbreaker.
"Ah, Eunye, do you-" I try to move backward slightly to ask whether she knows about the dance competition next month or not but I hold the urge when I notice that she's sleeping. "Aigoo, she fell asleep already..."
She was not joking when she said that she's tired, wasn't she?
My lips turn into a curve when I see her sleeping face. This is one of the moments that I must admit that Eunye is an attractive girl.
I know though that I really want to protect her like my own little sister that I never have. She relies on me and I don't want to disappoint her.
With my free hand, I move her bangs aside and, slowly but sure, I lean closer until my lips meet her forehead.
I promise myself that I will always protect her.

It's not something unusual for me and Hoya to play around like little kids. In fact it's one of our hobbies together.
However I never really noticed that our little game since college could be so different now that we have graduated and became adults.
When he hugs me from behind, holding me close to him, I swear my heart can explode if I stay like that any longer. That's why I step backward carefully and take seat in silence.
Maybe I'm just too tired with so many things happened today. Hyomin's confession about her lie, Woohyun's broken hearted smile, and now my heart is beating fast because of my own best friend.
What is wrong with me?
Hoya quickly accompanies me to sit and tilts his head, trying to study my expression, "What's wrong? Are you hurt? Sorry, I-"
I bury my face on his chest because I don't want him to see my blushing cheeks. I bite my bottom lip nervously, trying to ignore my heartbeat, "I'm tired..."
As usual, he calms me down with his simple but soft gesture. Hoya snakes his arm around my waist and says, "I know. I know."
I close my eyes but my heart can't work well with my brain. Even though my mind keeps telling me to calm down, my heart beats rapidly like crazy.
It's not the first time I hug Hoya. I've hugged him for hundred times perhaps. I always thought of him like my sibling.
He is my only best friend and I always feel comfortable when I'm with him.
Just like now.
"Ah, Eunye, do you-" Hoya was going to ask me something but I quickly close my eyes, pretending that I'm sleeping in peace.
"Aigoo, she already fell asleep...," he murmurs and lets me to rest my head on his shoulder.
I just hope that he can't hear my rapid heartbeat. My heart beats even faster when I feel he moves away my bangs with his fingers.
My mind stops working for a second when I feel his lips on my forehead. He pulls away and whispers, "Have a sweet dream, Eunye."
There is no difference between Hoya's kiss on my forehead with Woohyun's or with the other guys then why do I feel that I want to stay just a little bit longer with Hoya now?
There is one thing which makes Hoya different from the other guys though; even from my first love, Sunggyu.
Hoya can pull on my heartstrings.
