Thirty-One
Five Makes A Family“So, what can we do for you Jungkook?” asks Baekhyun, settling himself comfortably on the couch.
He hasn’t seen Jungkook this nervous in...ever. It’s starting to worry him a little but it can’t be anything bad about Taehyung. He had just seen him yesterday, when he visited from college.
“I needed to, uh, ask a, uh, favor,” Jungkook stutters out, stumbling over his words. His hands are a twisting mess in his lap.
Chanyeol doesn’t seem to notice the obvious tension- but then again, he never does. “What do you need?”
Jungkook is flushing now and his mouth is dry. It shouldn’t be this nerve-wracking; he had prepared himself, but now actually doing it, he wants to run away.
He’s known Taehyung’s parents for years and had always been on good terms with them.
He doesn’t know if that will continue after this.
“You know I’ve been with Taehyung since we were fourteen,” he starts out, voice shaking. “And we’ve been friends, uh, for much longer.”
“Mm.” Baekhyun stirs his tea, wanting to make Jungkook feel comfortable. He has a sneaking suspicion about where this is going.
“I love him.” With that, Jungkook’s nervousness starts to fade and his voice grows stronger. “I have, ever since we’ve met. Though, I don’t think I knew it at the time. But I’ve never met anyone else like him. It’s always been Taehyung. I don’t think I’ll ever love anyone else and I…”
His voice wavers but he clears his throat, eyes darting between the Parks nervously.
“I want to spend the rest of my life with him. May I have your blessing?”
Baekhyun freezes. “You’re saying...you’re going to propose? And- and marry?”
“If I may.” Jungkook feels very small.
Baekhyun looks at Chanyeol, waiting for his response. For once, Chanyeol’s face is blank and he’s blinking slowly, as if trying to figure out what’s happening.
Taehyung is his little boy. He’s raised him, watched him grow up. He’s played catch with him and entertained Taehyung’s imaginary worlds full of aliens and castles and dinosaurs. He’s tried to give Taehyung everything he’d ever want. He wanted to shelter Taehyung to the best of his abilities.
Letting him marry Jungkook...all of that pales. He’d be losing his little boy. Even if Taehyung is twenty-three, he still sees that weird child who looked at the moon and wanted to know if there was a rabbit living up there.
“Chanyeol?” Baekhyun is looking at him tenderly, reaching a hand out to squeeze his husband’s hand. “What are your thoughts?”
Jungkook feels himself shrink as Chanyeol turns his eyes on him. He’s never seen Chanyeol this scary before and he shifts under the intense gaze.
“You make my boy happy,” Chanyeol finally gets out and Jungkook relaxes by a fraction. “You’ve always treated him well and never hurt him intentionally...you’re a big part of his life, Jungkook. And I-” Chanyeol pauses. “He loves you a lot. So I guess I can allow it.”
Jungkook feels his chest lighten. Breathing out a sigh of relief, his eyes flicker over to Baekhyun to see what he has to say.
Baekhyun had been the ideal protective umma. He’s lenient enough with Jungkook since he’s known him so long but with others, his instincts come out.
He’s shielded Taehyung as much as he could, wanting to protect his little boy forever.
Now Baekhyun’s afraid of losing him.
“Are you sure about this, Jungkook?” Baekhyun asks gently, carefully. He doesn’t want to upset Jungkook but this is Taehyung they’re talking about. The kid’s a free spirit and almost done with college. Knowing his son like he does, Baekhyun wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to travel after college. “I mean, you’re both so young.”
“I know,” responds Jungkook. He’s been thinking about this for a while now and he’s never been so sure of anything in his life. “But I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I know we’re young, but I could make it work- I’ll support him as much as I can. I’ll give him the world, if I can. I just...I love him.”
Baekhyun nods in understanding, a slow smile breaking across his face. This. This is exactly what Taehyung needs. Jungkook is the one for Taehyung. He’d never want another for his boy.
“I’m impressed, Jungkook,” he says and Jungkook takes that as a good sign, crossing his fingers where the Parks can’t see. “You’ve really earned my respect over the years. I think you really do make a good match with my Taehyung.”
Jungkook’s eyes light up. “So, does that mean…?”
“One thing.” Baekhyun holds up a finger. “I know you wouldn’t, but if you ever hurt Tae- in any way-” his voice drops “it will not turn out well for you. Do I make myself clear?”
“Yes,” Jungkook scrambles to answer. Chanyeol takes Baekhyun’s hand and whispers in his ear.
“Don’t scare him, Baekie,” he reminds him.
“N-no it’s okay,” says Jungkook, tearing his eyes away from Baekhyun to look at Chanyeol. Much less scary. “I understand.”
“I just wanted to make sure,” Baekhyun says smoothly.
“It’s true though.” Chanyeol stares at Jungkook seriously. “Don’t hurt Taehyung. Please.”
Jungkook bows his head. “I know, I promise.”
Baekhyun smiles gently at him, back to wanting Jungkook to be comfortable and pleasant. “You know we love you Jungkook, and we know you’re a good boy. It’s just-”
“I know, I understand,” interrupts Jungkook, smiling back at them. He really does understand. He wants to protect Taehyung from the world too. “I want to take care of Taehyung too.”
I've had this scene in mind for awhile and just needed to get it out.
I'mgoign to be honest, I don't know much about 24k and their dynamics and relationships so if anyone wants to give me quick run-down of anything pertaining to them, that'd be much appreciated ^^ I just don't want to write Sungoh and the rest of 24k badly, is all.
Have any ideas or prompts? Don't be afraid to let me know!
