“Can we talk?”

Taehyung stiffens at the voice but doesn’t turn around. Jimin raises his eyebrows as he looks Jungkook up and down He may be friends with them both but it’ll be Taehyung every time.

“He doesn’t want to talk to you,” Jimin says offhandedly, turning back to his lunch. Taehyung tries to swallow but the taste is like ash in his mouth. He’s lost his appetite.

“Taehyung, please?”

“About what?” Taehyung’s proud that his voice is steady and casual but he can’t meet Jungkook’s eyes.

“Not here. Just a few minutes, Tae, please.”

Jimin makes to refuse again but Taehyung shakes his head, getting up. “Fine. You get five minutes.”

“But Tae-”

“It’s fine, Jimin.” Taehyung smiles slightly before following Jungkook out of the cafeteria, trying to remember Sungoh’s advice.

“Hear him out and if it’s still wrong, feel free to punch him in the face.” Taehyung would never do that but he knows his brother might.

They stop where the lockers begin and Taehyung crosses his arms, waiting for Jungkook to start talking. The younger looks nervous and it’s such an odd expression on his face.

“I’m really sorry Taehyung, I didn’t mean any of it. I was just tired and stressed and I...I just took it out on you and I’m sorry for that.”

“Mmm.”

“I still love you...if it means anything.”

It does. But Taehyung can’t say that. He feels his resolve crumbling He knows when Jungkook’s lying, after seeing him try and hide it after all these years, and he’s not lying now.

He feels a little bad now. He doesn’t want to lose their friendship over this, even if they do end up breaking up. They’re too good of friends to stand being apart and Taehyung knows he’ll always love Jungkook no matter what.

“I don’t want us to be over, Tae, I really don’t.” Jungkook steps closer and Taehyung frowns but he knows he can’t stay mad at Jungkook for long. It’s hard to deny the younger of anything.

“I don’t want us to be over either,” he says and there’s a glimmer of hope across Jungkook’s face. It’s enough to make Taehyung’s heart flutter.

“Really?”

“Really.”

“I’ll be better, I promise, I just don’t want to lose you.”

“I don’t want to lose you either. So…” Taehyung holds his hand out hesitantly, smiling as he lets Jungkook take it and thinks that this is exactly how things should be.

I swear this story is going to turn into just Taekook.
