Baekhyun cracks the door open softly, in case the kids are asleep. But it’s a needless worry because they’re still awake, huddled on Taehyung’s bed under the covers and giggling over something on the laptop, the volume low enough so he can’t hear.

It’s past ten-way past their bedtime, even on a weekend-but Baekhyun doesn’t have the heart to separate them. They’re not fighting and they’re not being loud-he really has nothing to complain about.

Smiling lightly, he closes the door quietly and turns around to find Chanyeol right behind him. “Asleep?”

“No. Just on the laptop. Watching some anime, I think.” Baekhyun shrugs. “They looked so cute Chanyeol, and they’re not bothering us. What’s the harm?”

“There is none,” agrees Chanyeol, following Baekhyun as they walk down the stairs to the living room. “I think it’s good for them.”

“To stay up late? It’ll be terrible getting them up for school on Monday.” Baekhyun groans, flopping on the couch and leaning his head back against the cushions. Chanyeol settles next to him, a hand comfortingly on his thigh.

“Why are you already worried about next week?”

“We have so much to do,” explains Baekhyun, stressing out about it already. “Bam has a dentist appointment on Wednesday-I think I have to pick him up early-and Tae has practice everyday after school, except for Thursday. And he wanted Jungkook to come over sometime but I don’t know when yet. Sungoh has piano practice on Tuesday and Thursday and basketball tryouts are this week too. And I told Luhan we’d drop by sometime but I don’t think-”

“Baek, breathe.”

“Sorry.” Baekhyun takes a few deep breaths, feeling tired all of a sudden. Just thinking about the upcoming week is enough to make him want to fall asleep and not wake up until it’s over. But he knows that’s impossible.

He settles himself deeper into the cushions, closing his eyes. He knows he could probably sleep right here but he also knows Chanyeol will carry him up to bed if he does so.

“Isn’t this what you wanted?”

He cracks open an eye at Chanyeol quizzically. “Hm?”

“When you wanted to have kids...isn’t this what you wanted?” Chanyeol gestures around vaguely. “When it was just the two of us, you always talked about what it would be like if we had kids running around, doing this or that-it’s what you dreamed of.”

Smiling, Baekhyun nods, putting his hand on top of Chanyeol’s. “You’re right. I did always want that.”

There’s a pause.

“And?” prompts Chanyeol, squeezing his husband’s thigh and making him laugh a little.

“And it turned out better than I expected.”

I don't know, I just found this one to be really cute.
