“Hey Tae? Could you come here please?”

Taehyung looks up at his umma. “Sure.” He scurries from the corner of the room where he had been playing and climbs on the big armchair next to the couch, eyes wide. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing’s wrong Taehyung,” says Baekhyun, watching the six-year old’s eyes flit between him and Chanyeol. “We’ve just been thinking.”

Taehyung tilts his head. “Thinking?”

“We try to give you as much attention as we can,” starts out Baekhyun, holding Chanyeol’s hand for comfort. “And you already have a lot of friends because you’re so outgoing.”

“You got that from me,” chuckles Chanyeol.

Taehyun looks between his parents, blinking. “I don’t get it.”

“What we’re saying is, would you like a brother?”

“A brother?” Taehyung doesn’t understand.

“He would be a lot younger than you,” Baekhyun explains gently. They have no idea how Taehyung would react, so they just kind of went with it. “So you would be the older one. Could you handle it?”

“A brother?” repeats Taehyung. “Is it...you don’t love me any more?” His lower lip starts to quiver.

“Of course not!” Scandalized, Baekhyun gets up to kneel next to Taehyung’s chair, hands fluttering over his son. “Of course not.”

“Why would you think that, Tae?” Chanyeol ruffles the child’s hair soothingly. “Having another child won’t mean we don’t love you any less.”

“We want another because we love you so much,” emphasizes Baekhyun, patting Taehyung’s arm. “We loved having you, so we want another child. But they’ll never replace you, Taehyung. Umma and appa still love you.”

“Really?” Taehyun blinks up at them. “You’ll still love me?”

“Of course Tae.” Chanyeol grins at him. “We’ll always love you.”

“Oh.” Taehyung’s silent for a minute.

His parents exchange nervous glances. They don’t know what’ll happen next and if Taehyung will end up being okay with having another sibling or not.

“You said a brother?”

“Would you like that, Tae?” asks Baekhyun gently.

To his and Chanyeol’s surprise, Taehyung nods excitedly, smiling his box-like smile too wide. “Yeah! I want a brother!”

Baekhyun blinks. He certainly didn’t expect this level of happiness and looking at Chanyeol’s face, his husband didn’t either. “Really Tae? Would you be okay with it?”

“Yeah! It’ll be fun! He can play with me and I’ll teach him how to climb trees and dance and fight against evil warriors!” Taehyung continues to babble excitedly.

“We were scared for nothing,” Baekhyun whispers, only half-listening to Taehyung’s chatter.

“You mean you were,” teases Chanyeol, grinning when Baekhyun glares at him.

“We both were.”

Chanyeol wraps him up in a hug, chuckling affectionately when Baekhyun lets him and their son continues to talk.

“Looks like we’re having another kid, then.”
