Five Makes A Family“I’m going to the store,” Baekhyun calls, pulling his coat on. “Do we need anything specific?”
“Cucumbers,” yells Chanyeol from the living room, his laughter bouncing off the walls. Baekhyun makes a face, ignoring the humor of his husband.
Taehyung runs to the front door, grabbing onto Baekhyun’s leg. Even though he’s only six, he’s almost up to Baekhyun’s waist. Not that that is much of a feat since Baekhyun’s not too tall. He hopes Taehyung will inherit his father’s height.
“Chocolate! Pocky! Can you get chocolate?” Taehyung looks up at his umma with wide eyes. “Or pizza? What about pizza? Chocolate pizza?”
As disgusting as that sounds, Baekhyun smiles and ruffles his son’s hair. “I’ll see what I can do. But you have to eat healthy if you want to grow.”
Taehyung pouts. “I am growing! I’ll be taller than you soon.”
“What a goal,” says Chanyeol, leaning on the doorframe and watching them. Baekhyun sticks his tongue out.
“Not my fault you’re just a giant,” he retorts but Chanyeol just smiles. He loves the height difference, honestly. It makes everything seem more picture-perfect somehow.
“Appa’s not a giant,” Taehyung declares. “Umma’s just short.”
“Yah!” Baekhyun glares and flicks Taehyung in the forehead, making the child squeal. He’s not short! And how can Tae act like that when he’s shorter than Baekhyun? “Be respectful or no chocolate for you.”
“I’m sorry umma! I just heard Dae ahjussi say it,” protests Taehyung, pulling on Baekhyun’s pant leg. “I’m sorry.”
His umma sighs and shakes his head, smiling down on him. “Don’t listen to him too much, okay? He’s full of it.” Taehyung nods as Baekhyun bids good bye, headed for the store to feed his always-hungry family.
Family. Baekhyun still can’t get used to that word. Even though it’s been a few years, it still seems almost unreal sometimes. His whole life he had wanted to have something like this, a family of his own, and now he can finally think ‘I made it’.
