NOTE from Librarian regarding Rule #7:
I realize that this rule alone might turn away requesters. However, you must understand something. Reviewers, and not just the ones here at The Library, but all reviewers, they spend time of their own to read your story. They aren't like the average reader who reads a chapter and comments that they loved it, please continue writing: they take the time to pick apart everything from you grammar to the way that your characters grow, as well as the way that your story is unfolding. They take the time to give advice to help you to make your story even better than it already is, as well as telling you what works well and what you're excelling at.
So you see, Reviewers are not just your average readers. A lot of time and thought go into the reviews that they write out for you. And yet, in return, the review is most often picked up with a simple "Picked up, thank you" comment. Not only does that feel like you don't care at all about what the reviewer said, but it is keeping you from learning even more. Let's open the lines of communication here, get a dialogue going between you and your reviewer! Not only can you hear their inital thoughts on your story by reading the review, you can (and should) answer back with your thoughts about their review.
Was it helpful? What did you learn? Is there anything that you think that the reviewer misunderstood in your story? Is there anything that you feel that the reviewer could help you on or explain more in depth?
Please keep those questions in mind as your read your review, and leave a comment for the reviewer who took the time on your story. However, do not leave any ill-spirited comments about the reviews. I am not considering comments like "I think that you misunderstood this happenstance: here is what I meant by that portion of the story" as ill-spirited. Those kind of comments are very welcomed! Just please do not leave any comments that directly attack the reviewer. Thank you!
