Christmas morning was gorgeous. The snow glistened, reflecting the beads of sunlight. The house was quiet, until Keia sneaked into her parents’ room and jumped on their bed. Christmas was big in their household.
“Eomma! Appa! Merry Christmas!” She said as she continued to jump around. Jihyo woke up with a smile. She took her daughter by her waist and carefully pulled her down. Keia giggled.
“Merry Christmas, Keia.” She kissed her daughter. Gary woke up and lazily nuzzled on Jihyo’s neck. He wrapped his arm around their daughter’s waist. “And what’s with this baby?” She looked at him, chuckling.
“Me too.” He said.
“Oppa too what?” She asked, laughing. Keia climbed up and slept atop of Jihyo’s body. She wrapped her arm around the other side of Keia’s body. “Why do I feel like I’m taking care of two babies?” She asked. Gary supported his body and kissed her. She smiled. “Merry Christmas, oppa.” She returned the kiss.
“Merry Christmas, Mongji…” He said. When he was fully awake, he smiled looking at the two. “Keia, come here.” He said. She immediately moved onto his lap. She kissed him and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Good morning, appa.” She giggled. “Merry Christmas!” She said excitedly.
“Why are you so happy today?” Jihyo asked, looking at her while getting out of bed. Keia rushed to her arms and Jihyo waited for her and carried her. Gary groaned out of laziness but quickly joined them in the living room.
“What’s this?” Gary asked picking up one of the presents under the Christmas tree. Jihyo let Keia down and she quickly ran towards him, excited. “It says your name on here, Keia.” He said again. She sat on his lap and held the present.
“Christmas seonmul!” Her face lit up in excitement. Gary looked at her, satisfied. Jihyo smiled from the kitchen, getting water and breakfast for her. Keia started unwrapping the gifts Gary and Jihyo had wrapped neatly the night before. Present after present, Keia opened it all. Then there was one wrapped with a silver wrapping paper. It was just a small box wrapped less neatly than the others. After opening everything, Keia reached for that one and Gary quickly stopped her.
“Aniya, not that one, Keia.” He said. She looked at him, confused. Jihyo joined them when she brought Keia her water. “Here… It’s for you.” He said, handing it to Jihyo. Jihyo looked at him with her blank face.
“What’s this, oppa?” She asked. He motioned her to just open it. She smiled at his gesture. “Did you wrap this yourself?” She whispered, chuckling, and he nodded. “Gomawo…” She said. He nervously watched her open the wrap. Once she opened the box, she looked at him, smiling. Keia felt left out and wanted to know what was going on. She clung onto Gary’s neck while he was still sitting so that he would look at her.
“Help eomma put that on.” He said, knowing that she wanted to know. Jihyo kneeled next to them and took the gift out. It was a simple silver bracelet with a diamond in the center. With the hook untied, she handed the bracelet over to Keia. Jihyo held out her hand to Keia so she could put it on. While sitting on Gary’s lap, she tried to put the bracelet on Jihyo’s hand. After a while feeling frustrated for not being able to hook it, she handed it to Gary. Her parents laughed at her and Gary hooked the bracelet on for Jihyo.
“Why did Santa also give eomma a present? She’s not a child anymore.” Keia asked in all seriousness, only to make her parents titter.
Although it was Christmas, Gary had to go to a lunch meeting before going with Jihyo and
