Normal Teenager
YOLOI invited Youngjae and JB over to my house after school ended. I told them that I had a room full of instruments and they were dying to see it. Mr Kim, my butler, was waiting for me outside school so the three of us headed in the car.
"I thought the other guy was your father," JB said.
"Oh yeah he is. This is my butler," I said as I wore my seatbelt.
"You wear your seatbelt?" Youngjae asked.
"Er... Isn't it a must?" I asked.
The two of them stared at me again cluelessly.
"Are you a nun or something? You're so nice and proper..." JB said with a chuckle.
"Isn't being proper good?" I asked.
"It is... its just not what normal teenagers would do," Youngjae said.
Normal? I started wondering what teens normally do.
"Well, what do normal teenagers do?" I asked.
"Well... we hate school but we love lunch time..." JB said.
"We do stupid things and get into trouble for them but we sometimes laugh about it afterwards because it's funny..." Youngjae continued on.
I didn't get that too. Why laugh after getting punished? Why is it funny? Why do teens stare when parents kiss their teenage children? How can they just skip lessons as though it wasn't wrong? Why do girls want to be pretty so much? I realised that I was definitely missing out on a lot. Adults and even some teens might hate those kinds of behaviours but they're interesting for me and I want to feel that way as well. However I can't because of my stupid, weak heart. I hate my condition... I hate my heart.
After an hour, we finally arrived back home and the first thing they did was laugh hysterically.
"You live in a hotel?" Youngjae asked as we all got out.
"Nope, its my house!" I said.
The two of them shot me a look of astonishnment. They probably experienced a lot of new and weird things after just meeting me for like a day.
"YOU LIVE IN A FREAKING CASTLE?!" JB shouted.
"... I'm... really not like any normal teenager... am I?" I asked.
JB and Youngjae looked at one another and I could tell they felt guilty for making me so left out.
"No... no, you're like everyone of us, Sowon," Youngjae said reassuringly.
The maids opened the door and the three of us came in. Youngjae grabbed JB's hand and the both of their jaws dropped as they scanned the hall.
"Yah... I feel rich just by being in here," Youngjae said making me laugh.
"My room is this way, come on!" I exclaimed as the three of us started running up the stairs.
Halfway up, I felt a sharp pain in my chest so I stopped right away. I remembered what Appa said to do if I was in this situation... take slow, deep breaths, so I did that.
"Sowon ah, you coming up?" JB asked from the top of the stairs.
"Yah... Are you okay?" Youngjae asked a she took a step down but I raised my hand up, signalling that I was okay.
"Yeah... Yeah, I am..." I said, feeling breathless.
I walked up the stairs slowly but still as fast as I could manage so that they wouldn't suspect anything. Then, I turned to the right and opened the doors to my room.
"You guys can put your bags on my bed. The instruments room is kind of far from the entrance so its easier to just put it here first," I said... but they didn't answer.
"Um... May I ask what your parents work as? Because I want to live like this when I grow up," Youngjae said, his mouth wide open again.
"Ah~ Appa is a doctor and Omma is a lawyer. They're kind of famous in their own field of work so I guess they get more money than usual doctors or lawyers and my late grandparents were wealthy as well so when they died the mansion belonged to Appa," I explained.
"Yah, Youngjae... We should really study hard and be a lawyer or doctor," JB said.
"Agreed," Youngjae said.
With that, we left my room and then went down two aisles to get into the instruments room.
"Sowon... Can I be you just for a day?" Youngjae asked as JB and him stood in the middle of the room and stared at every single instrument that was in it.
I laughed at his question. It was interesting how they wanted to live like me whereas I wanted to live like them. JB and Youngjae sat down and played the piano together. They were playing Yiruma's - River Flows in You and I just sat on the floor and absorbed myself into the calm melody.
"What can you play?" JB asked suddenly after stopping abruptly.
"Ah~ Actually, I can play everything here," I said shyly.
"EVERYTHING?!" they yelled for what seemed to be the hundreth time that day.
"Um... Yes, I didn't really get to do anything else so I decided to learn instruments to fill up my spare time," I explained.
"You're different... I knew it the moment I saw you... You're different in a good way," JB said with a smile that made me smile as well.
"Um... I don't know what normal teenagers do to gain friends but... I guess they ask. Can we be friends?" I asked shyly to the two of them.
"Gosh, you're so adorable, really!" JB squealed.
"Hahaha! That's not what normal teenagers do but... yeah, we're friends," Youngjae said happily.
"Yay!!!" I shouted, finally having friends who were my age.
