New beginning
HARD TO SAY I LOVE YOU“What are you doing out here by yourself?” Kyuhyun had asked her as he situated himself next to her on the fence. “Both Seohyun and Ryeowook are looking for you.”
Amber glanced at him, but then turned back to gazed out into the dark ocean in front of her, “Seohyun and Ryeowook are both busy entertaining their family members and guests. I don’t think I’m missed in the party.”
“You’ve changed.”
The breeze blew a strand of hair into Amber’s face. She brushed it out of her face and tucked it behind her ears. Her hair has gotten longer again. It had grown a few inches passed her shoulders now, but instead of cutting it like she usually does she had planned to let it grow longer this time. “Changed, how?”
“The old Amber, the Amber that I knew would’ve have stayed in the party, because she doesn’t want to offend anyone especially her friends.”
“I don’t think I offended anyone, especially not Seohyun and Ryeowook. They know me and they understand why I’m out here instead of in there. The party makes me feels like I’m suffocating.”
“You seem to be fine before Jonghyun left,” he turned his body toward her. She knew that he wanted her to look at him, but she felt awkward. Standing next to her was a special friend that she had hurt many years ago, a friend that she had not spoken to for so long, a friend that had ignored her for over five years, but here he was talking to her as if nothing happened. “Are you two back together?”
His comment caused her to sniggered, “Jonghyun and I are just friends. He kept me sane in that flock of superficial people in the party. Seohyun or Ryeowook could have done the same, but they have their hands full.”
Amber felt him turned away from her. She glanced sideway at him. His brows were knotted together. He was thinking, contemplating something inside his head. They stayed that way for a long while, the two of them staring out into the ocean, wrapped in the silence that hung between the two of them, surrounded by the sound of the crashing waves.
“I’m sorry,” were the words that broke the silence. He uttered it so quietly Amber thought she heard wrong.
She turned toward him. Her eyebrows cocked with curiosity, “What did you say?”
His eyes locked with hers and she could see how anxious he was. She saw the nervousness within them. He quickly glanced at the ground and then back at her again, “I said, I’m sorry.”
Amber didn’t understand why he was apologizing to her. She should be the one that apologized to him. She was the one that caused him the pain that he went through. She was the one that created the rift between their friendships.
“I don’t understand,” she was utterly confounded by his words, but he now had her full attention.
He let out a long sighed, “I’m sorry, because despite your attempted to apologize to me after you walked away from me that day, despite knowing that you didn’t intended to hurt me, despite knowing that you do cared for me as a friend, I choose to ignored you.”
Amber remembered how she had sent him text messages, emails, twitter messages, but he ignored them all. She didn’t expect anything from him. She knew she hurt him. She knew she wounded his pride. The purpose of her sending those messages was for Kyuhyun to know that she was remorseful of the action that had befallen their friendship.
Kyuhyun ran his hand through his hair. He lifted his head up at the sky and took a deep breath. He slowly lowered his head and continued, “I should have gone after you that day. I wanted to called after you, tell you that I was willing to wait, that I would wait until you are ready for a relationship, but instead I allowed you to simply walked away. It wasn’t just you that created the rift between us. You may have instigated it, but I allowed it to develop into what it is now.”
The words pained her. Amber felt the warm tears tickled down her face before she could stopped it, “All I ever wanted was for you to forgive me. I don’t regret the choice that I made back then. Although, there might have been a better way to do it, but that’s the past and I can’t change it.”
“Could we ever go back to have the same friendship we had before?” He stepped closer to her. He hesitantly lifted his hand toward her face, but quickly dropped it back down.
Amber used the back of her hands to wipe away the tears on her face, “No, we can’t.” The look of shock was written all over his face and a small smile escaped her lips. “We can’t go back to the past, Kyuhyun. Our surrounding has change. We both are on a different path in life. It also seems like you and I had found that soul mate we talked about long ago. No, we can’t go back, but we can start a new friendship. Wipe away the old slate and starts again.”
She offered him her hand. Looking into his eyes she saw that he was a little confused. He was still trying to process what she had said. He finally took her hands and she shook it, “Hi, I’m Amber. It’s nice to meet you.”
Finally there was a small smile at the corner of his lips.
