Chapter 20

It Started by Eye Smile

"YAH. YANG SEUNGHO," she yelled, into my ear.

"Whaa-what?!" I asked, snapping out of it. She was trying to get my attention.

"Why are you looking at me like that?! STOP DAYDREAMING FOR GOODNESS SAKE!" she whined.

I had no idea what just happened.

"You look like a sick ert with your lips all puckered up. What the heck man...that's not normal," she said, with her arms crossed.

I touched my lip and looked at her.

"What just happened?" I asked, cautiously.

"I asked you when the tow truck was coming and then you flipped out. Then you got all quiet and stared at me for almost ten minutes! Do you know how creepy that was?" she explained with shivers. I can't believed I had such a surreal scenario in my head. Oh my goodness, I can't believe I'm becoming like my cousin. Must stay normal.

"Oh....." was all I could mutter.

"Yeah...." she said while rubbing her arms.

"Where's the jacket I gave you?" I asked.

"In the car," she muttered.

"Such an idiot. You're supposed to wear it, that's why I gave it to you," I said while shaking my head, heading to the other side of the car.

"What about you? You only have t-shirt and it's so cold here," she said, with her voice lower than usual.

I didn't answer her because it was HELLA cold but I had to hide it. Must act tough, Yang Seungho.

I grabbed my jacket and walked back to her. Right when I was going to help her put it on, she stopped me.

"I can do it," she said, taking the jacket from me. Akward.

I checked my phone and it's been more than a hour. Being as impacient as I was, I called the tow-truck dudes.

"Yobosayo?" I said.

"Yobosayo? Oh, it's you again! Listen young fella, we do not have anyone at this time of night. We'll be there in the morning," he said really quickly.

"What did you just say? Morning?!" I said, dismayed.

"See you soon!" he said before hanging up.

I could not believe my luck. Such a shady company with horrible customer service.

"Aish," I growled as I kicked a rock.

"What's wrong?" she asked, as she touched my arm lightly. Whoa, she just touched me.

"I..uh.."

"Yes?"

"The tow truck guy was trolling us. He isn't coming until tommorow morning," I said bluntly.

"Huh?!" she gasped.

"You can go sleep in the car if you're tired. Ima stay out here for a while," I said, not looking at her.

"Araso," she said before walking back to the car.

After a while, she was calling my name.

"Seungho! Can you unlock the door?" she asked. Crap.

"Yeah, hold up," I called back. I felt my pockets. I froze. Then I started to pat my pockets furiously. This could only mean one thing and it was no good, at all.

"Seungho...." she started again.

"Jikyung! I left the key in the car!" I said, outraged.

"What?!" she almost cried.

"I can't believe this. I cannot believe this at all," she said, grumpily.

Right when things couldn't get any worse, unexpected rain appeared out of nowhere. It was not in the news broadcast.

I heard her shriek a little. I gathered myself up and grabbed her by the wrist.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Follow me," I said.

As fast as I could, I pulled her with me. I was trying to look for a place to hide from the rain and there wasn't anything in sight. Farther into the park, we lost direction and she was panting.

"Where....are...we......," she panted.

"Almost there," I answered, even though I had no idea where the heck we were going. Right when I was trying my hardest to look for something to hide under, I spotted a tree. It wasn't just any tree. There was a hole in the trunk. Perfect.

"There!" I pointed. She looked at me like I was crazy.

I pulled her with me and when we arrived at the tree, she pulled back.

"I don't think I want to go in there," she whispered. I got the hint that she was scared.

"I'll see if it's okay," I suggested.

"No wait, don't. What if something happens to you?" she asked, worriedly.

"Don't worry, nothing is going to happen to me," I reassured her. She was skeptical about this. I was secretly pleased with her worrying about me. I had to keep that feeling.

As I knelt down, she warned me softly and I told her it was okay. I patted the soil and nothing felt weird. As I crawled into the hole, I realized it was huge or at least large enough for two people. I felt the inside of the trunk and everything seemed normal to me.

"Ow!" I cried in pain as I clutched my hand.

"Seungho!" she yelled worriedly. She knelt down and examined me.

"It's hurts so much," I cringed. She noticed that I was clutching my hand.

"Let me see," she urged.

"No," I said, seriously.

"Now, let me see," she said again.

"I don't feel like it," I said.

"Yah, I need to see what's wrong with your hand," she said, almost in tears. My heart softened. I needed to stop.

"Yah, Park Jikyung. If I let you see my hand, you have to promise me something," I said.

"What?" she asked.

"You have to kiss my wound," I said, normally.

"Wae? Andwae! I don't want to!" she whined.

"Then you can't see it,"

"But I need to see what's wrong!"

"Promise me then,"

"No,"

"Yes,"

"No,"

"Yes,"

"No,"

"Yes,"

"Ughhh, just let me see it!" she screamed as she grabbed my arm from me.

"OW!" I cried out loud.

I watched her examine my hand and her eyes bulged out.

"NOTHING'S WRONG WITH YOUR HAND!" she shouted, realizing that I tricked her.

"You promised," I sing-songed.

"I'm leaving!" she said before stomping off. Just as she started, a loud roar filled the sky.

"AYYYYY!" she screamed as she ran back to the tree and hid inside. It was so hard not to laugh.

She settled into corner of the trunk and hugged her knees. She started shivering and sneezing.

"AHCHOO!" she sneezed and sniffled.

I looked at her and she looked away.

All of a sudden, she started to cry. Startled, I could only watch her before I asked her what was wrong.

"You're so mean. I thought you were really hurt," she sniffed. My heart dropped at the sight of her crying. I hadn't seen her cry in a while.

"Mianhe Jikyung-ah, don't cry. I'll make it up to you," I apologized.

"Really?" she asked. She stopped sniffing.

"What?" I asked.

"You'll make it up to me?" she asked.

"Depends on what it is," I said slowly.

"I'm cold," she said.

"How am I supposed to make that up to you?" I asked.

"Make a fire so something. Aing, nan mollayo," she shrugged.

"Pabo. We're gonna burn the freaking tree you know that?" I asked while rolling my eyes.

"That's why I said I don't know gosh dang it!" she whined.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," I said as I scooted over next to her.

"What are you doing?" she asked, scared.

"You said you were cold right?" I asked. She nodded like a little kid.

"Then shush and enjoy it while it lasts," I said as I wrapped my arm around her. She tried to wiggle out and protest but I only held her tighter.

I had to fight back my smile and I closed my eyes. I noticed her starting to loosen up. In no time, her head drooped forward. I chuckled and leaned her head lightly onto my shoulder. In no time, I fell alseep as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt rays of light shoot at my face and slowly, I opened my eyes.
I looked left and Jikyung was sound asleep, her head now on my chest. I rubbed my eye and opened them again. This had to be a dream. I pinched my thigh and almost cried out in pain. Making a small noise, Jikyung stirred in her sleep and changed her position. Phew, she was still asleep.
Even though there wasn't much light coming from the hole in the trunk, there were tons of light inside the tree. As I looked up, I noticed that in a small corner, there was a hole. I squinted hard and I was suprised at what I saw. The light was coming in from a heart-shaped hole. I smiled at it. For some odd reason, I didn't mind this one bit.
What caught my attention was Jikyung. She was making little noises as she stretched. After changing different positions I couldn't help but look at her features. She had large eyes and a perfect nose. She seemed to have lost weight. I brushed the hair away from her face. At last, I couldn't help but look at her lips. They were shaped so sweetly and I couldn't snap out of my gaze.
Second by second, she opened her eyes. She looked up and she was out of it. After ten seconds, she realized she had been sleeping in my chest and her arm around my waist.
"Omo," she gasped while pulling back quickly. She was sitting up and while she was sitting up, her forehead hit my chin because I has been looking down at her.
"OW!" we exclaimed at the same time. She rubbed her forehead and I had my hand on my chin. Right when we were recovering, we caught each other's eyes. We were at eye level and we both paused for a second. She gulped but didn't move backward. I was mesmerized. Without a second thought, I leaned in the moment our eyes closed.
