At the Basement

“Key…?”

“Yeah…Minho…?”

“It seems like you’ve got a larger area than Auntie…”

“Why you say that…?”

“Isn’t it obvious…?
You have the top…
I mean the attic…
And this…
Almost the entire floor area of your house…”

Key:                (chuckles) Ooosshh Minho…
                       You even have the time to wonder and be amazed of things…
                       This is not like extraordinary…
                        I bet a lot of houses have this kind of structure…

Minho:             (gasps) Our house doesn’t have one…
                       Oh…you have two basements…
                        I wonder what floor of the ground part is your basement…
                        Hhhhmmm…
                        Let me see…
                        Second floor from the ground level…?
                        Am I right…?

Key:                (grabs Minho’s left hand shaking it) Aassshhh…Minho…
                       You act like a child…

Minho:             (pouts) I just want to know…
                       I find it amazing how this house was built…
                       I never knew about this…
                       I have been coming here since I was a kid…

Innocently unaware he is talking too much, Minho driven by excitement, unstoppably shares his childhood memories experience of visiting Key’s house that he never notices Key staring intently at him examining…

“My first coming into your house was when we were kids…
I was peeping at the gate and you saw me…
You extended your hand and invited me in…
I was so amazed at the hugeness of
everything around me…
I knew of the other basement…
Your room…
Some secret rooms here and there…
I think you also have a secret room…
This house is a piece of art…
This house is so extraordinary…
It’s so mysterious…
(looks at Key) Just like you…Key…”

“Oh…
So we were really good friends back then…?”

Minho:             Of course…
                       Not a day…
                       I look forward to playing with you…
                       And take note, I have been a really good friend to you…

Key:                Stop it Minho…
                       I can see that you are really a good person…
                       (spots the thing) There…!

Minho:             What…?

Key:                The one I want to show you…
                       I put light on them so I can easily find it the next time
                       I want to see, just like now…

Minho’s heart skips a beat upon distinguishing what Key is referring to.
Out of excitement, he walks ahead of Key, covering his gaping mouth – so astonished; he says…

“Wow…
You’ve had this all this time…?”

“You know this…?”

Minho:             (nods) Those are from the trick and treating…
                       (points at the things one by one)
                       The bucket, your costume…

Key:                (looking amazed) Costume…?

Minho:             (nods eagerly) Oh yeah…
                       Elf costume…
                       You looked so cute back then,
                       (points at a picture) And this one, our picture taken…
                       I was so embarrassed…

Key:                I was an elf and you are…?

Minho:             Pumpkin kid…

Key:                (laughs) I wish I can remember my childhood days…
                       Did we have lots of fun…?

Minho:             (hesistant) Hhhhmmm…
                       The two of us…?

Key:                (nods) Yeah…
                       I don’t see anything that reminds me of my childhood
                       days with Park…
                       Or maybe I did have something here but I could not just
                       remember any…
                       Well, I've been having dreams and flashbacks but 
                       you see, I don't really count them as true accounts of my past life...

Minho examines the area and feels deeply happy not seeing anything that belongs to Park as all he could see are current paintings, books and other collections.

“We did have fun until Park, your fiancée; stepped in…
He’s been so overprotective of you ever since
I can remember…
I kind of admire him for that…
I really would have wanted to have fun with you
but I didn’t know how to so I chose to
be on the side…
I didn’t know what happened but this, I say,
I didn’t do anything wrong to you…
I would always watch you from afar as that
was all I could do…
The gate was locked prohibiting me to
come closer to you…
So I respect that…”

Key out of pity for Minho hugs the latter.
Minho stiffens; swallowing the surge of emotions coming out from his chest.

“Thank you Minho…
I appreciate what you have told me.
With your story, I can at least connect the
missing pieces of my childhood days…
You don’t have to worry, if I kind of
overeacted back then…
I was just a child, unable to fully understand
what was going on…
I am so sorry if I hurt your feelings…
And Park…
I guess you can say that…but…
Whatever it was he had done to you…
I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive him…
Can you…?
For me…?”

“I have forgiven him long time ago…
I don’t like to keep grudges.
They’ll poison your mind and soul…”

“Thanks again…Minho…
Maybe you can tell me sometime about our past…
Am pretty sure you have so many stories to share…
About us…not so many…?”

“(nods) Yeah…
Not so many but memorable…”

“Really…?”

Minho nods.
He detaches from Key’s hug and look at the latter in the eyes and smiles saying…

“Those were the best of my childhood memories but…
(sudden change of his facial expression)…”

“But what Minho…?”
