"We're just friends." Minji quietly said to her friends. They rolled their eyes and went back to studying…or doodling.
"Minji! Ready to go?" Minji raised her head to see Daito walk in. He was dressed in some destroyed jeans and a blue shirt.
"Coming!" Her peppy voice rang in the room. Her friend slapped her in the .
"Friends my !" She smirked. Minji sighed. They really were just friends…

"Daito…we're friends right?" Daito looked at her questioningly.
"Of course…why you ask?" Minji shook her head with a smile. She noticed a weird feeling in her stomach but brushed it off.
"There it is!" Minji ran full speed towards the lake. Their lake. Even though they both changed since entering high school, this would never change.
"Wow, its astonishing every time I come to this place." Minji nodded in agreement. She poked at the water and watched as the ripples endlessly traveled outward. She looked towards Daito, who was busy looking at the sun. He had changed so much since they were little. He used to be shorter than her and a little bit chubby but now he was a handsome man who towered over her.
"Shorty~ stop staring." He said while sticking his tongue out. Minji scoffed and looked back to the water. The way he just stood there made everything awkward. He would normally more or endlessly chatter about the girls who he met that day. Something was off.
"What is it that you're not telling me Daito." She cautiously asked. Daito froze in place. She was definitely his best friend. She knew him like a book, even though to him she was still mysterious.
"Nothing babo." He tried with a little chuckle. Suddenly Minji got up and walked over to him. She placed both her hands on his cheek and pulled him closer.
"If we really are friends, you are to tell me everything." She said with a serious face. Daito pulled her hands off of him and smiled. That smile made Minji shudder. It wasn't one of his true smiles…it was his fake one.
"I'm sick."

Minji sat in the classroom with a daunting look on her face. Her Daito was sick. He was…beyond the word sick…he was ill.
"Yo Minji, Daito told me to pass this to you." Minji took the note and read the words twice before running out of the room. She reread the message in her head while she ran.

She didn't know why but she was running for her life. She felt that she had to be there. But why? Of course. She hadn't realized it. Daito was more than her childhood friend. Well maybe they began like that, but after a while she saw him as a man. She loved him and wanted to be with him. They were always more than just friends to her…She replayed his response to her.
"Daito...we're friends right?"
"Of course…why you ask?"
She felt the tense feeling in her stomach once more. It wasn't indigestion. it was pain…she wanted him to view her the same way she view him.

"Hey! WHERE'S DAITO?!" She ran into the room screaming. The nurses stopped her before she could advance.
"Daito is in room four preparing for surgery. You need to stay outside." Minji smiled…preparing meant that he hadn't done it yet. She had a chance to talk with him. She nodded and acted as if she was going to the restrooms. After the nurses took their eyes off of her she ran straight to room four.

"Daito!" Daito jumped.
"Minji? What are you doing here?!" Minji gave him a huge embrace.
"You idiot!!! Of course I would not let you take this surgery by yourself." She wiped a tear from her eyes. Daito smiled.
"Well my moms outside." He teased. Minji chuckled…this was Daito. Always joking and hiding his pain.
"Daito…remember when I asked you…are we friends?" Daito thought and nodded his head. "I don't think I was satisfied with your answer." Daito cocked his head to the right in confusion. "I don't want us to be friends…I love you." Daito stared at her in disbelief. "I know that maybe I'm not the kind of girl you like…"
"Minji…"
"Or maybe there are plenty of girls you can choose from…"
"Minji!…"
"This might be a bit awkward bu-" All of a sudden Daito grabbed her cheeks and pulled her in. Their lips touched releasing a tingly sensation down her spine. They were kissing…Minji pulled back with a blank look on her face. Daito smiled at the cuteness overload.
"Minji…I love you too." Minji blushed a bright red.
"Um…" The two turned to see a blushing doctor in the room. "It's time Daito." He replied. Minji took his hands and felt tears in her eyes.
"Don't worry…I'll be fine." Daito tried to reassure her. Minji just stared at him unconvinced. Daito spoke once more. "Even if I don't…I want you to know that although my heart might stop…my love for you still goes on."

five years later.

"Man…I'm going to be late." Minji rushed through the crowds of people towards her office.
"Ms. Kwon…you're late." Her boss growled. Minji stuck her tongue out as soon as he turned around.
"Hey why you late?" The guy next to her whispered. Minji just shook her head.
"Stuff."
"If you're not busy later…" He began. Minji turned back as if she didn't hear the question. "Um Minji?" She turned back and smiled.
"Sorry I have somewhere I need to be tonight."

Minji took a deep breathe. She sat at the dinner table and looked around.
"Minji?" Minji looked up but soon looked down when she saw her office partner.
"This is where you were going? Wow thanks…" He said hurt. Minji just sat there speechlessly. "You know its not too late to-"
"Sorry I'm late." Minji smiled as the healthy looking Daito walked in. The other guy mumbled a few words and walked off. "Not good…you got too pretty."

Minji and Daito were now walking along side the lake while holding hands. They felt peaceful.
"So how was your treatment in America?" She asked. Daito's surgery did not go well so he had to be taken to America. This was her meeting him after five whole years.
"Good." He smiled. He liked walking with her…it was like they were in a whole new world. He felt nice to be finally standing next to her. Minji let go of his hand and bent down towards the water. She dipped her finger in and watched on.
"I wish for Daito to be like this ripple. To continue on forever and ever." She said cutely. Daito smiled.
"I wish…our love was like that ripple." His chuckle made Minji feel like there were butterflies in her stomach. "Is it alright if I take the first step?" He asked. Minji didn't know what he was talking back. As soon as she turned to face him, he bent down and took her hand.
"Ms. Kwon…will you marry me…and forever be by my side." Minji smiled. If it was Daito, everything would be all right.
"Yes."
