Torn
Heartless MachineTORN.
"This is your new classmate Kim Sahee," teacher Do introduced me to the bored class.
They welcome me and some of them wave at me. I feel so uncomfortable. Maybe they recognize me.
How could they. I already died half a year ago.
"Hello, I'm Kim Sahee from Bucheon."
My new body was even after a week totally uncomfortable to me.
I had to live with the fact that Lee Chaeri was dead. I was dead.
I wasn't even human. I was a machine.
I could almost imagine those gear wheels screaming and steaming under my pale fake skin.
My hair was long, longer than Chaeri's. It almost reached my waist.
I looked like those ulzzangs. Those people who look absolutely perfect.
Doesn't mean, Chaeri wasn't perfect. She was even more than that.
"You can sit next to Minah," teacher Do said.
I slowly moved to the chair next to Minah.
Minah. Wasn't she Lu Han's little girl?
"Hello," she said and gave me a smile.
I didn't say anything. I'm going to kill-
"Did you already see the new student in class?"
"No, why?"
"She is scary. She never speaks to anybody."
I heard them. Two boys, two of Chaeri's lovers.
I heard them, even I stood ten meters away next to the lockers.
I heard them, even when they were whispering.
I heard things about me, I didn't want to hear.
She is scary. She looks like a ghost. Maybe she's a vampire.
I heard things, they weren't supposed for me to hear.
I couldn't stop it.
When everybody already left school, I walked around the school building.
Alone.
I stopped at the board, where articles from newspapers where pinned on.
At the top of the board was attached with a black piece of silk.
Lee Chaeri, always in our heart.
Girl died in an car accident.
16-year-old dies in hospital after car accident.
I lifted my hand and ripped the articles off.
I teared down all those handwritten letters by female students, who said, they were close friends of mine.
I didn't even know them. Why should they grieve about me.
"What are you doing?" I heard from behind.
It was Lu Han.
"I'm doing the right thing."
"You're Kim Sahee, right?"
"So what? Are you going to rat me out? Then, just go."
"No. There's no reason for me."
I looked at him.
His eyes lost their sparkle.
He looked so tired and sad, even when he smiled.
"It was me." He looked into my eyes.
"What do you mean?"
"I killed her."
"If I'm right a car killed her."
Lu Han didn't say anything.
He just tried to escape my glance.
Because he tried to hold back his tears.
"It was my fault after all."
