My steps were barely audible on the ground in front of the house.

It was already late and I wasn't able to see a lot in the darkness.

The coldness slowly crawled under my clothes while I was walking.

Suddenly Lu Han grabbed my wrist and hold me back.

“Are you sure?” he asked me again, his voice worried.

I made some steps back and hugged him tightly.

“Don't worry,” I said and listened to his slow heartbeat.

We went to the back of the laboratory.

I still remembered that there was a door, leading outside.

It was used to get rid of the waste, which was stored in the backyard.

Everything I could hear was my own breath and Lu Han's,
but his was not as loud as mine. Even if I didn't have to breathe.

I could see green faint light right in front of us, which was getting brighter.

We were almost there, as I suddenly tripped over something.

Lu Han helped me up and I brushed the dirt from my knees.

“Everything okay with you?” he asked and pulled me closer.

I nodded hesitantly and bent down.

Wait.

My eyes widened in horror as I realized that I stumbled over a foot.

I could recognize a leg and a hand. A body.

A face.

I gasped and immediately knelt down to the person.

Lu Han followed right behind me. “Is it...?”

“Kai,” I said silently and took Kai's hand for the very first time.

It was so cold. Even colder than my hands were.

I cupped his face in my hands, which was also cold.

“Is he,” Lu Han began but didn't end his sentence.

“We have to get out of here,” I decided and tried to lift Kai up.

Lu Han pushed me away slightly. “Let me do this.”

We brought him to my house.

Mom opened the door, her eyes tired at first.

She looked at me, then at Lu Han and then to Kai on his back.

“Come in,” mom whispered and helped Lu Han.

She brought us into the little laboratory.

“Let him lie on the table.”

I made some steps backwards, until I reached the wall.

Lu Han came to me, took my hand and squeezed it.

I leaned my head against his shoulder and hoped.

I hoped that everything would be okay again.

I never really cared about Kai.

He was just someone.

Even though he was a machine, just like me.

Kai was someone who could kill me.

Someone, who knew my weak points.

Someone, who was dangerous to me.

But lately, I began to get closer to him.

He was just like me, I have to admit.

He once said, that we were like brother and sister.

Like siblings, because we were made by the same people.

Because we came from the same place.

Because we were both alike.

Kai turned out to be more than a machine.

I thought he was coldblooded and made to kill.

But he isn't. He is more than that.

He has a past. Just like me.

And he tried to find out who he was.

He didn't remember a single thing about his past.

So I helped him. At least I tried to.

But somehow...

Maybe that was the reason why all these things happened.

We both were standing next to the table.

Mom took off his shirt and then turned him around.

Her fingers touched his shoulder blade.

I could see how she pressed the power button several times.

But it didn't work.
