Human Past
Heartless MachineHUMAN PAST.
“Why did you do that?”
I suddenly cringed as I heard a familiar deep voice behind me.
Kai. “What do you mean?” I asked and closed my locker.
“Why did you say that you love him?” His dark eyes pierced mine.
I looked around and made sure nobody was watching us.
“Tell me,” Kai said in an even deeper voice.
“It's because...” I hesitated a moment. “I love him, of course.”
“You love him?” he repeated. “There's nothing which is called 'Love'.”
“Of course there is.”
“No it isn't. We are machines. Machines cannot love.”
I just looked at him without saying anything.
“We aren't built to love anyone human. You shouldn't forget that.
Humans should love humans. Not someone of our kind.”
“We aren't much different from them,” I answered and wanted to turn around.
“We don't age,” Kai said and made me stop.
I never really thought about that.
“Is it true, that we don't age?”
Mom looked at me in surprise. “You didn't know?”
“I know. But I never really thought about that before.”
She went silent.
“Is there something I should know? I mean... Do I live forever then?”
Mom came over and hugged me tightly.
“Don't worry about those things now.”
I waved at Lu Han-oppa, when he left for his dance training.
“You are still with him?”
I turned around just to see Kai again. “Are you following me now?”
“Does he know?” he continued to ask and ignored me.
“Know what?” I shot back and turned away.
“About us.”
Us.
“What we are.”
“Stop it. I don't want to here it anymore.”
“What if he finds out?”
“He won't.”
“But he will.”
“Not if I can prevent it.”
“He will sooner or later.”
KAI.
“Is there something between you and Sahee?” Minah asked.
I looked at her, while she blushed. “No, why?”
“Because you two spend a lot of time together.”
“She has a boyfriend.”
My words made Minah a little bit angry, but she tried to hide her feelings.
“Do you like her?”
Like? Like. What does 'like' mean?
“I don't think I like her in the way you mean it.”
“Something new about SH-001?” one of the men asked.
I shook my head, while my collected data was copied into a little chip.
“SH-001 is acting more and more human,” another one said.
I opened my eyes and saw some blurred outlines.
Human. She wants to be human.
“Why does she want to be like that?” I asked silently.
“Because she was one of them.”
One of them.
A human?
SH-001?
How could...?
Why?
So...
I was human too?
