Smile

Every Day With Day6

“Wouldn’t it be great if our dog could learn to open the door whenever we came home?” wonders Jae aloud.

“Don’t be silly, I think that would be disastrous,” laughs Brian, giving him a friendly nudge on the shoulder.

The youngest among them, Dowoon, sets his carried items on the floor and unlocks their door.

“Thanks Dowoon,” says Wonpil appreciatively, giving the boy a little bump with his head.

Sungjin smiles at the camaraderie shown, but his face pales upon descrying what happened inside their apartment. The stuffing of a pillow is ruined and some of their clothes have been dragged onto the floor. There is a suspicious sound of scrapping as well, and the leader notes with clarity that the dog could not be found in plain sight.

“Looks like we have to find the dog,” says Sungjin in an eerie calm.

Dowoon blinks with minor fear visible in the eyes, afraid for the sesame dog. The members placed their items aside to look for the dog.

Perhaps Sungjin feels offended, as they left the apartment space unattended to buy things for the dog. Food, grooming and other necessities. Not only that, he played a role in rescuing the dog. The others are wise enough to keep out of the way whenever the leader gets into this rare kind of mood. Even Wonpil would not touch him.

Jae finds the sesame dog under his pile of clothes, the ones that are not in the laundry basket.

“Not very neat for being the oldest,” remarks Brian.

“Shh,” mumbles Jae, getting on his knees to sneak up to the sesame dog.

Surprisingly, it works. The bundle of mischief is in his arms. Jae stands, walking out of the room and the others gather around him.

“We’re going to have to teach you some manners,” says Sungjin seriously with narrowed eyes. “No use being mad at you when I was mad for you a few days ago. But if you continue ripping our place up, you’re out.”

The sesame dog squirms, causing Jae to adjust the way he is carrying him. Now, the dog is facing him.

“You’re terrible,” muses Jae with a raised brow. “But you’re being smiley, so I can’t help but want to smile, too. Can we call him Miso? I’m going to call him Miso. Miso for smile.”

“I thought Yeong for bravery would have been nice,” mumbles Dowoon, a little forlorn.

“Cheer up,” encourages Brian, slinging an arm around the drummer’s shoulder. “You have pets at home, I’m sure you got to name them. So that’s okay, give the old guy a chance.”

“Miso reminds me of the Japanese soup,” says Wonpil solemnly.

“Guys,” groans Jae. “Let me have my moment for once, okay?”
