South Korea’s newest power couple, Ahn Hyejin and Jung Wheein, arrived earlier today in Taipei for the 2017 East Asia Business Conference. The couple joined us for a quick interview after landing. They looked more like tourists than businesswomen in their casual attire.

Q: Welcome to Taipei! The two of you have been the biggest talk of the media in South Korea, East Asia, and a lot of other places around the world. Did you expect this kind of publicity and did you think it would be mainly negative or more positive?

Wheein: Before we decided to announce our engagement, Hyejin and I had a conversation about this. We expected a lot backlash with a little bit of positivity hidden in between it. We were surprised about the bigger amount of support back home and overseas.

Hyejin: The negative comments of course were the first to surface, but Wheein and I focused more on the positive ones. We hope it inspires more couples to come out and be proud of their love. Both of us feel like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders.

Wheein: [Giggling] Yeah, even back home we have received a lot of support.

Q: Has it affected either of your businesses in any way? Sometimes news like this can hurt a company.

Hyejin: We feared that, but the results have been completely opposite. The stocks for our companies actually grew and sales increased slightly.

Q: That is certainly great news! Have you two discussed anything about combining Ahn Corp and Jung Enterprises in the future?

Wheein: We did have a chat about it after we were asked this question in Hong Kong. It’s actually something we had not discussed but we both figured that if our companies are doing well on their own, why change that.

Hyejin: Wheein also doesn’t want us mixing business with pleasure. [Laughs]

Wheein: [Laughing] Hyejinie certainly prefers pleasure around me anyways! [The couple laughed and blushed profusely]
