Dear Mr. Kim JaeJoong,

I was looking outside my window today. It was foggy, so I couldn’t make out most of the features, but I knew what was there. It was our oak tree. The one we planted when it was just a small sapling. You said that it represented us. That we started out small, but would grow bigger. Into mature adults. Into better friends. Maybe even lovers. I believed you.

The oak tree is big now. Taller than me, maybe even taller than you. We made an oath when we planted the tree, it’s still sounding in my head. “As long as this tree stands, we will always be connected.” “I will never forget you,” was what you whispered in my ear. I didn’t say anything back, but we both felt the same.

We shared our greatest memories under that oak tree. We watched it grow taller, stronger. Day by day, our bond would also grow. I felt immune to any hurt when I was next to you. It was the greatest feelings of safety and hopelessness I had ever felt.
