Kris took about four steps into his house when he was forcibly stopped because Chanyeol stopped behind him and their hands being connected, that made Kris halt in his tracks too. He looked back with a poorly masked worry in his eyes and Chanyeol is looking at him uncertainly. Who wouldn’t be confused when you were just told to go home but then you’re being pulled inside to stay a little longer? Kris wants to facepalm himself for being such a softie. This is his fatal flaw and even after all the years of trying to get rid of it by wearing the cold city guy image like second skin, he still failed to bring the mask into his core.
“I’m sorry,” Chanyeol breathed as he looked on the floor, his one arm still extended and his hand still held in one of Kris’ warm ones. He knows that it’s not a gesture that he should put much thought to but that simple touch brings him comfort and it cleared his head, ridding him of the thoughts that were swirling inside his head uncontrollably. He felt his feet drag him forward when Kris tugged on their joined hands. He let himself be led on the couch and he took a seat beside Kris because that’s where the elder has patted for him to take.
“I should be the one apologizing, Chanyeol.”
“No, I should say sorry too because I’ve said such things to you and I’m sorry too because I’m not taking back anything that I’ve said. I meant it,” maybe it was the clarity inside his head that made his tenacity show once again and even he saw the we’ve-been-through-this look from Kris, he knows that he will press his case further. He likes Kris for some reason that even he doesn’t know. All he knows is that he likes Kris and he needs nothing more. Chanyeol doesn’t like complicated things.
"Park Chanyeol…” Kris was giving him a patronizing look, like he was a bratty and whiny kid but he’s having none of that.
“Answer me honestly Kris and don’t even try to lie. I can smell through lies my mother being a good lawyer and my dad a respected judge,” he narrowed his eyes at the elder and Kris visibly gulped. Why did he bring his parents in the conversation? To prove his point and it seems to have worked because Kris leaned back to the cushions with a defeated sigh and grumbles about annoying and persistent kids.
“Since I think that you will not leave me in peace, I’ll tell you the reason why I’m driving you away,” Kris knows that he’ll regret this later but he put himself in the kid’s shoes. He’d rather know the ugly truth that be kept in the dark and clueless. Besides, he missed the toothy, too-happy grin on the kid’s face that is now showing a determined set of lips. “And it’s a good thing that you mentioned parents because it’s not only you who have badass parents. My mother is a sweetheart but she’s no longer here but my father is the badass, Chanyeol. I’m saving your from him.”
“Why would your father be after my perfect ?” Chanyeol asked and Kris did his best to push down the smile that was about to creep up his lips.
“He doesn’t like a gay for a son,” Kris replied in a clipped tone.
“Okay, then why did you not just tell me that we could only be friends instead of telling me to off?”
Note to self: Park Chanyeol isn’t as dumb as he looks like. Kris internally panicked because he has implied that he likes Chanyeol back so he wracked his brains for any excuse.
“Would you have left it alone if I said so?” Kris raised a challenging brow and Chanyeol sighed.
“Okay, I get your point but you could’ve just said that instead of kicking me out! My heart was terribly hurt, you know?” Chanyeol pouted and it went straight to Kris’ struggling heart. It won’t take much before his walls will start crumbling down and he should really shoo Chanyeol away already but he doesn’t. He wouldn’t. He couldn’t anymore.
“This is really pointless,” Kris mumbled as he pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes. He has given up on driving Chanyeol away because he has no match for the younger’s stubbornness.
“Kris, my favor?”
“Just get on with it, kid.”
“Stop calling me a kid. I’m just two years younger than you are!”
“Still younger.”
“Fine! I’ll just call you gramps then!” Kris grimaced.
“Okay, okay. I won’t call you kid, anymore. Now, I’ve granted your favor. Go home, Chanyeoda,” Kris waved at his dismissively.
