A mother's approval
Chenlay drabblesBased on this interview(5:48), where Jongdae said he wants to go to Changsha for a concert because it's Yixing's hometown. It was one of the few moments where he actually smiled in the interview.
As soon as the door opened, Yixing's mother enveloped him in her arms. Yixing hugged her back tightly, both mother and child trying to keep the tears at bay. Jongdae smiled at the tender moment between the two from the doorway.
"My baby's home!" Mrs Zhang said as she planted as many kisses as she could on to Yixing's head.
"Mama!" Yixing whined but allowed her to shower her affections on him because he secretly liked it. "I brought one of the members with me."
EXO had arrived in Changsha 2 days before their concert. Naturally the Zhang family had invited them to dinner to show their hospitality. However, all the members, besides Jongdae, had feigned fatigue and declined the offer. They all knew just how nervous and excited Jongdae was about meeting Yixing's parents and grandparents. Not that Jongdae hadn't already met them, but it was different now that Yixing and he were dating. The members had hoped this would be a good chance for Yixing to show off his boyfriend to his family without really showing him off because neither Yixing's nor Jongdae's parents knew about their relationship.
"Oh Zhongda!" Mrs Zhang pushed Yixing to the side to embrace Jongdae. Jongdae quietly giggled at his boyfriend's offended expression as he returned Mrs Zhang's hug.
After the greetings at the doorway, Mrs Zhang had ushered both boys in and reintroduced Jongdae to the family. Once the introductions were out of the way, it was time for dinner. Dinner was slightly awkward for Jongdae purely because his tongue refused to work properly. He had been practising his Mandarin diligently since the moment he found out that one of their concerts was to be held in Changsha but now he couldn't bring himself to open his mouth a hold a simple conversation with Yixing's father. This might have something to the horrible incident that happened last time he had met with Yixing's parents, he had muddled up his pronunciation and had said something ual to Yixing's mother. Thankfully Mrs Zhang is an understanding woman and brushed it off with a laugh, only afterwards did Yixing tell him what he had done. Jongdae squashed the urge to groan at the memory and instead smiled at Yixing's grandmother when she passed him the dumplings.
"You'll need to bring all your members next time." Mr Zhang said.
"Maybe if we have time after the concert, I will." Yixing said before getting up. "I'll do the dishes."
Jongdae stood up too. "I'll help."
Mrs Zhang shook her head. "No Zhongda, let Yixing, you are our guest." Jongdae glanced at Yixing and Yixing gave him a small smile. She came towards him. "Follow me." She lead him away to Yixing's childhood room and closed the door behind them. "I know." she said in slow and simple Manadrin so Jongdae could understand better. "About you and Yixing." Jongdae's eyes widened and he swallowed audibly. "You're dating." Jongdae stopped breathing. "I don't mind. Promise me you will take care of him." Jongdae was so shocked all he could do was nod. Mrs Zhang gave him a big smile. "Good."
Mrs Zhang showed him lots of photos of Yixing as a baby and told his childhood stories as simply as she could with lots of hand gestures. They were soon joined by Yixing and his family.
A little before midnight, their manager came to take Jongdae back to the hotel. Jongdae said his goodbyes to Yixing's family and Yixing walked him to the car.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Jongdae said as he pulled Yixing in for a hug.
Yixing angled them so his family couldn't see before planting a quick kiss on Jongdae's lips. "Have a safe trip. Text me when you get there."
Jongdae got in the van before turning to address Yixing. "Your mum knows about us."
Yixing stared at him in horror. "What?!"
"She's ok with it." He slammed the door shut and put his seatbelt on.
Yixing was rooted to the spot. "What?!"
Jongdae laughed and blew him a kiss. "I'll tell you more about it tomorrow."
Yixing watched the van drive away. "What?!"
