“Shinhye is not here. She went to Ilsan.”

“Ahh.”

There is a tint of disappointed in Seunghyun’s tone which Haejin caught quickly.

“Why? Are you sad because she didn’t tell you?”

“Ahh it’s not it. It’s just that we are together yesterday but she didn’t say anything about it.”

“Is there something going on between you two that she needs to reports everything to you?”

Seunghyun shakes his head.

He let out a sigh before he looks at Haejin.

“I told you, I’m serious with Shinhye.”

“You change your heart easily. She is once just a kid to your eyes.”

“She is a lady now. I acknowledge that.”

“Seunghyun.”

“Haejin ah, can you stop being cold to me? Can’t we become like what we used to? Before we know that there is a girl named Yoo Soobin?”

Haejin sighs and shakes his head.

“It’s hard.”

Flashback

“Haejin, do you know that girl from the art faculty?”

“How do I know Seunghyun ah. Art class is quite far from our faculty.”

Haejin said as he drew the structure of human endocrine systems in his note book.

"Adrenal, adrenaline."

He mutters as he scribbles some notes beside the drawing.

Seunghyun lay down on his bed while he supports his head with his arms.

“She is a beauty.”

“Really? How beautiful?”

“Very.”

Seunghyun grins.

“I bet Shinhye is more beautiful.”

Haejin shows no interest when he said that.

Seunghyun laughs.

“Shinhye is cute Haejin ah. She is a teen while Soobin is a youth.”

“Shinhye is a beauty to me.”

“Ara. She is. Happy?

Seunghyun chuckles.

"I’m going out for some fresh air.”

Seunghyun said as he grabs his coat and scarf.

“Have some coffee when you are out. It’s cold outside.”

“I’ll buy you one on my way home.”

Haejin grins.

"Gomawo."

Seunghyun chuckles and makes his way out.

“Seunghyun ah, did you plan to date the girl from art faculty?”

“Ani. I was just attracted to her. Wae?”

“I think I like her.”

“Really?”

“Deh. She is pretty.”

“I told you she is pretty.”

Haejin grins.

“Finally Haejin find someone else that can beat Shinhye’s beauty.”

“I need you to teach me on how to gain her attention.”

“I'll gladly help. But you have to stop sinking your on that chair first dude.”

Haejin laughs.

“I’ll do that after exam Seunghyun.”

“Sure. Do your best buddy.”

“Thanks.”

“Seunghyun, am I right that I saw you with Soobin, kissing?”

“Haejin ah.”

Seunghyun answers with an apologetic expression.

“So, I’m right. It’s Soobin.”

Seunghyun hesitates when he saw the pain on Haejin's face.

He sighs.

“Soobin, she told me that she loves me.”

“You know that I like her Seunghyun and you even support me.”

“Things get complicated. She; caught my attention. And I realize that I’m not just attracted by her, I’m in love with her.”

Haejin let out a frustration sigh and ran his fingers through his hair.

“I don’t mind if it was someone else that become her boyfriend. I can still take it. But it’s intolerable that it’s you, my own best friend.”

“I tried to fight this feeling too Haejin ah but it is too strong that I.”

“Geumanhe.”

Haejin cuts him off.

“You know what I’m fighting for and I barely succeed but you, you just ruin it Seunghyun.”

“Mianhe Haejin ah.”

Haejin raises his right hand, gesturing him to stop talking while he looks down on the floor.

He took some times before he raises his head and look at him.

He smiles bitterly.

“Thanks for the best birthday present ever.”

Haejin went out with and close the door loudly.

He is in pain and misery.

Seunghyun knows that very well.

They separated from that day.

Haejin went to another room while Seunghyun go back to stay at his house.

He sighs.

“Kenchana oppa?”

The petite lady beside him asks worriedly.

“Oh? Kenchana.”

Seunghyun squeezes his girlfriend’s hand and let her rest her head on his shoulder.

Haejin who happen to see that scene looks away in furious.

“You did not regret even once right?”

He clutch on his books tightly and as he walks to the opposite side.

“Emergency, the patient suffers from hallucination and she hurt herself.”

“Details.”

“She tries to commit suicide, cutting her wrists and neck.”

Haejin rushes to the ER and checks on the patient.

She looks pale but he knows exactly who she is.

Haejin tries his best to save her but to no avail.

She lost too much blood.

And her heart beat starts to drop.

“We are losing her Doctor Park.”

Haejin heart beat’s rises in nervousness.

She can’t die.

She can’t.

She has to live.

She has to.

But the beep sound from the machine betrays him.

There, she lay down lifelessly.

And him; once again he become a failure in front of her.

Haejin stood there unmoved when the nurse said about the death time.

He meets her again after three years but Soobin;

“Soobin is dead.”

He whispers to himself as he stares at her petite body when she was being covered with the white cloth.

“Doctor Park, the family of the deceased is outside.”

He sighs and nods.

“Give me a moment.”

He went to the washroom and washes his face.

“Soobin is having hallucination? Why?”

He thought to himself while he stares on her reflection.

“The family, will Seunghyun be there? Will he thinks that I purposely let her die?”

Haejin heave a heavy sigh as he makes his way out.

And there stood Seunghyun, wearing a hopeful expression as he waited for the doctor, waited for him.

“You are her guardian?”

Seunghyun looks shocked when he saw Haejin but he shrugs it right away when he remembers about his fiancee.

“Yeah, she..she is my fiancee. How is she? I found her with so much blood when I get home. Tell me Haejin ah, she is fine right?”

“I’m sorry Seunghyun. She..”

He took time to answer it.

He sighs.

“Soobin didn't make it. She left. Forever.”

Seunghyun palms his face as he falls down on the floor.

“I don’t know that she suffers from hallucination. I don’t know. She; she looks normal.”

Haejin clenches his fists.

His friend is the one who breaks down and crying in front of him.

And it’s also a friend that chooses to betray him.

What should he do?

Should he comfort him?

Even his heart still hurting because of what he did in the past?

He sighs for the nth time that day.

“We could save her if you come a bit earlier. We are sorry.”

He manages to say that.

Only that.

Seunghyun stands up and wipes is tears.

“It’s not your fault.”

Seunghyun looks at Haejin who was looking down.

“Can I see her?”

He nods.

Seunghyun makes his way into the room with much difficulty.

Haejin sighs.

“Be strong; chingu.”

He whispers as he ascended to his room.

Seunghyun then was admitted to the hospital to treat his trauma attack.

He was soon discharge and he plan to not continue his job as a surgeon.

Insteads, he runs a pharmacy.

And Haejin, he still have the hard time to build back the friendship even though they do met often.

Not when he comes to like Shinhye.

Shinhye crosses her arms as Yonghwa stares at her coldly.

"Go out Miss Park."

"Don't be so stubborn."

Yonghwa massages his shoulder.

"I need to rest."

"I'll just want to make sure your temperature is back to normal."

Shinhye doesn't wait for Yonghwa to answer.

She pulls her sleeves up and rushes to the bathroom.

She went out with a damp towel and put it on Yonghwa's forehead before she pushes him to lie down on the bed.

Yonghwa wants to protest again but Shinhye puts her forefinger on his lips.

"Shhhh."

And then she rush to the first aid kid and took two tablets for fever and gives it to Yonghwa.

He took and then drink it with the water Shinhye passed to him.

"Leave after 30 minutes."

He glares to her and closes his eyes; finally get to sleep after few days of sleepless night.

Shinhye grins like a winner and drags a chair to the side of his bed.

She supports her chin with both of her hands as she look at Yonghwa's handsome and calm sleeping face.
