9 Blood Ties
Creating Fairytale
Of course, Jong In knew the potential dangers of him stepping into a club. If it was a good night, it would simply end with him drunk and waking up hungover on one of the leather couches in a private room. If things were to turn ugly however, he would wake up hungover and with an in a hotel room. Or worse still, some random girl he drugged just for a night of fun. And Jong In swore himself off that life. He wanted to prove them all wrong and show them what he was capable of. And with this resolution on mind, Jong In found himself downing shot after shot of vodka at the bar at home. He was nearly through the first bottle when another presence showed up, slender fingers reaching for a glass after setting down the bottle of red wine he’d carried in with him.
Jong In scoffed. “How classy.”
“Thank you,” Baekhyun looked anything but the friendly and appreciative tone in his voice. “Would you like a glass?” the elder forced a smile on his lips.
“No thanks,” Jong In nearly gagged. “I was taught not to take anything from the beggar. It’s bad enough they’re penniless, I shouldn’t take advantage of them.”
“I would get out of the beggar’s sight if I were you. A beggar has nothing to lose and nothing to fear. In fact, he’d be glad to claim whatever he can and a simple-minded man makes the easiest target.”
Jong In curled his fingers around the shot glass so tightly that his fist was quivering and threatening to shatter the glass. Of all people to call him an idiot, he hated it the most when it came from the perfect Byun Baekhyun. The one who excelled in all areas and outshone Jong In in every possible way.
“Well at least I don’t have to rely on anyone as my backing! Whatever achievements I make are mine, not achieved simply because I have someone supporting me in the shadows.” Jong In snarled as he slammed his shot glass on the countertop. “First you rely on Kris for a position in Savv then you rely on your little girlfriend to rebuild the family ties you’d severed years ago. What do you want, money? All of Ahbuhji’s inheritance?”
“At least I made Ahbuhji happy,” Baekhyun smirked a smidge too cockily. “I got him the daughter-in-law he’s always wanted to see. What about you? You probably can’t even recall the names of the girls you’ve slept with. I wonder if there’s a little Jong In out there somewhere, waiting to reunite with you when you’re least expecting it? Afterall, your children probably take after you...”
“Shut the up!” the high stool scraped against the floor piercingly as Jong In bolted out of his seat. “Do not bring up my mother!”
“Was her story supposed to be so sacred it can’t be mentioned? Oh gosh, I have sinned.” Baekhyun slapped a hand over his chest dramatically. He couldn’t help it. If logic or sense worked when dealing with Jong In and his mom, they wouldn’t be caught in this situation right now.
“Both of you,” a female voice hissed menacingly as she neared the bar. “Your father is asleep! You know things are going to get ugly if you wake him up.”
“I can’t help it if Jong In is throwing a drunken tantrum, Aunty.” Baekhyun shrugged as he sipped on his wine, savoring the aftertaste and smacking his lips together. “This is a gift from Kris. Fancy a glass?”
“No, thank you.” Baekhyun watched with the pits of his stomach twisting painfully tight as Aunty placed her arms around Jong In protectively. “You shouldn’t be picking a fight with your brother since you know he’s drunk. You should’ve taken him to his room or at least called for someone to send him to bed.”
“Umma,” Jong In furrowed his brows. He did not like being treated as a child but his mother paid him no heed. Heck, he w
