Chapter 13

Remembering You

*Crack*

“Owww,” you groaned as you got off the chair. **My back…it hurts** you thought painfully. “I should’ve listened to myself and slept on the bed,” you groaned again as you arm gently swept across your back. You slowly and gently sat back down onto the chair and sighed in relief when you didn’t feel any pain. You closed your eyes and was about to take a short nap when your phone rang.

“Pick up the phone. Someone’s calling you. Pick up the phone. Someone’s calling you!~”

You sighed and grabbed the phone. You looked at the caller ID but it was unknown. You frowned but picked up anyways.

“Hello?” you said.

“Han-ah!” said a familiar voice.

“Daehyun?” you said in disbelief. “How did you get my number?” you asked.

“Huh? Oh, I found it on the floor,” he said.

“On the floor?” you asked, frowning.

“Anyways, as I was saying, would you like to go out to eat lunch again?” he asked, completely unaware of your suspicious comment.

“I can’t go, not today or probably for the next week,” you said.

“Why not?” he asked.

“My back is in pain right now, I can barely move,” you said.

“And you’re still working?” he said in disbelief.

“Well, yeah, as a doctor, you have to be responsible for the fact that everyone relies on you,” you said.

“Hmmm, I see,” he said.

“I’m fine,” you said. “Honestly, besides, I’m just doing paperwork so I won’t be moving around a lot.”

“…”

“Hello? Daehyun?”

“Huh? Oh yeah I’m here,” he replied back. “Uh, I have to go now,” he said. “See you later.”

“Oh, okay, bye,” you said and hung up. You put the phone back on the table. You slowly leaned back and closed your eyes. Suddenly, your eyes snapped opened.

“Wait! See you later?” you said aloud. “What does he mean by that?” You didn’t give it much thought. “Probably meant to just say good bye.” You sighed once more and began filling the paperwork.

“Hmmmm,” Daehyun thought as he stared at the row of ointments displayed on the shelf in the pharmacy. “Which one is best for her?” he thought aloud.

“Hello, do you need any help?” one of the employees’s asked.

“Uh yes, I would like to ask if you have any ointments for back pain,” he said.

“Oh, well which one do you prefer?” he asked.

“Oh it’s not for me, it’s for…for someone else,” he finished.

“Oh, well is she a girl?” he asked.

“Yes,” Daehyun answered.

“Well, then I think she would like this one,” he said as he took one of the ointments off the shelf. “It just came in today and it’s the top rated back pain ointment, and it smells really nice so I think she would like it.”

“Oh, alright,” Daehyun said. “Thanks, then I’ll take this one then.”

“Alright,” he said and headed towards the cashier register. Daehyun paid for it and quickly left the pharmacy. He looked back down at the bag and smiled, **I hope Han-ah will appreciate this**

You rubbed your eyes as your eye lids began to droop. **Dang, these pain killers are making me sleepy** you thought as you gave another yawn. You sighed and stared at the pile of files you had to finish by tomorrow.

“Guess I won’t be going home today,” you muttered you to yourself. You uncapped the pen and began filling the forms again. Suddenly, the door opened but you didn’t bother looking up.

“Did you get the files I asked for?” you asked as you continued to write.

“…”

You stopped writing due to the silence and looked up.

“D-Daehyun? W-What? You? How? Here?” was all you managed to say.

“What? Can’t I visit you?” he asked.

“N-No, it’s not that,” you said. “I just-”

“Just sit back down,” he said. You gave him a suspicious look but obeyed. You gently sat back down on the chair and winced when you felt pain shoot through your spine.

Daehyun gave you a worried glance and said, “I got you some back pain ointment,” he said.

You looked at him and said happily, “Really? Oh thank goodness, I really need them.”

“Say the magic word,” he said.

“Uh? Magic word?” you frowned. “I don’t know the magic word.”

Daehyun rolled his eyes, “You should’ve learned this when you were like 3 years old.”

“Uh, may I please have the back pain ointment?” you asked.

“Hmmm,” Daehyun said and pretended to think. “No.”

“N-No!?” you said. “Why not? It’s the magic word isn’t it?”

“Nope,” Daehyun said and laughed.

You groaned in frustration, “Then what is it?”

He leaned in close to your face that you naturally leaned back. He leaned closer and whispered into your ear, “Pretty please Daehyun oppa.”

“W-What?” you said. You were outraged, “I am not saying that,” you shot back.

“Then that’s too bad,” Daehyun said and faked a sigh. “I guess I won’t be needing this anymore,” he said and was about to throw the ointment away in the garbage can.

“Wait!” you said. “Please don’t do that. Just please give me the ointment,” you said. “I desperately need it. My back really hurts.”

“Well, say the magic word,” he grinned.

“I am not saying it,” you frowned.

“Your fault then,” he said and was about to throw it back out when you said “Stop! Okay, I-…I-I’ll say it,” you said, defeated.

He grinned and smiled.

“P-Please give me the-the ointment. Pretty p-please D-Daehyun…” you stuttered.

“Errr,” he said and made an X sign. “Wrong, you forgot oppa,” he grinned.

“Do I really have to say it,” you groaned.

“If you want the ointment,” he said. You glared at him, “Fine.”

You sighed and took a deep breath. “Please give me the ointment. Pretty please Daehyun o-op,” you gave a raspy breath and finished, “Daehyun oppa.”

Daehyun grinned and threw you the bag of ointment. “See it wasn’t so hard now was it?”

You scowled but didn’t say anything. You opened the bag and took out the ointment. You uncapped it and looked up at Daehyun. “Go away,” you said.

“Why?” he asked.

“I need to apply this,” you said. He rolled his eyes, “Fine,” and left the room.

You sighed in relief when he closed the door and you turned in the opposite direction. You squeezed some of the ointment onto your finger and tried to gently apply it on your back but you couldn’t reach the spot. You gave a frustrated puff and tried again.

-5 minutes later-

“What’s taking her so long to apply the ointment?” Daehyun muttered. He opened the door and said, “Are you almost done?”

“Ah!” you shouted and quickly pulled down your shirt from the back. “There’s something called knocking you know,” you said with a flustered face.

“Sorry, but it’s not like there’s anything to see,” he said.

You glared at him and looked away.

“…”

“You need some help?” he finally asked.

“No, just go away and leave me alone,” you said. He rolled his eyes and said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it that way.”

“…”

“Look, you do want your back to heal right? Well, you’re going to need my help to do so because you obviously can’t apply it. You hesitated and finally nodded. “I’m going to kill you if you think about doing anything funny.”

“I’m not going to,” he said.

He gently lifted a small part of your shirt up and applied the medicine onto your back and you winced once when he accidently smudged it. You couldn’t help but blush as his hands made contact against your skin.

“Done,” he said.

You quickly looked away and said, “Thanks I guess."

“Mhmm,” he said. “No problem," as if nothing happened.

“Well, I got to get back to work,” you said and began filling in the unfinished pile of work.

“You have to do all of these by tomorrow morning?” he asked.

“Yeah,” you said without looking up. You closed the finished folder and put it on the ‘finished’ pile that was much smaller than the ‘unfinished’ pile of paperwork.

“You need some help?” he asked.

“No, it’s alright,” you said and continued writing. “You’ve done enough for today, you should go back home.”

“Well, too bad,” he said. He took a nearby chair and took one of the ‘unfinished’ files and the ‘finished’ files.

“This should be easy,” he said. “So you’re just copying this all down from the computer?” he asked.

“Basically,” you said.

“Alright, simple,” he said and began helping you fill in the forms.

You took a glance at Daehyun and couldn’t help but smile. **Thanks again Daehyun**

-2 A.M.-

Daehyun yawned as he felt his eye lids droop. He closed the last folder and looked over to you. You had fallen asleep on the desk and looked uncomfortable. Daehyun got up and gently moved your position. He gently took your head leaned it against the chair. Your face looked more in peace and Daehyun smiled.

He took off his sweater and covered you to keep you warm. You unconsciously snuggled in deeper and smiled.

Daehyun smirked and moved his chair closer to yours. He leaned on his arms and stared at your peaceful face. He couldn’t help but smile. He closed his eyes and fell into a deep, happy, sleep.
