With Ren

Midnight Academy

But I want to find out now.” Rinka commanded, looking straight at the headmaster, already starting to lose respect. “I’m sorry, but you can’t.” Were the only words that left Headmaster’s lips. The nurse stood in silence, until an idea popped into her mind.

“We’ll just leave you two alone to speak and work things out.” She eyed Headmaster and he only nodded. The headmaster whispered something in Ren’s ear before walking out with the nurse, and slowly closing the door; sealed.

That was what happened about twenty minutes ago, now Rinka and Ren were talking it out. Rinka was still trying to comprehend that Ren was a vampire and had bit her, and Ren was still trying to figure out what his dream was all about.

“Why would you do that to me? I don’t understand how I didn’t turn, but still, why? Even though I didn’t turn and it’s supposedly not a big deal, it is to me.” Rinka lectured. Her arms were still above her head, chains strangling her wrists.

Ren sighed, “I told you. I was way too out of control and I needed to tell you the secret of this school. I was aching to be the first one to tell you,” Ren took a couple steps closer, reaching his arms up above Rinka’s wrists, breaking off the chains one by one, she was feeling his hot breath tickle her neck, which sent shivers down her spine as he continued, “I wanted to be the first to experiment on you.” He whispered the last part as the chains broke off.

Rinka pulled her hands down to her side, feeling exhausted. She hasn’t had her arms have any skin contact with her side for what felt like twenty years. Ren’s words faltered through her ears.
“So now I’m only an experiment?” She asked insulted. His eyes widened at his sudden audacity to say something like that when it wasn’t intentional.

“N-No! I didn’t mean it like that—.”
“Then what did you mean it as?” Rinka’s arms crossed her chest, raising an eyebrow. He felt nervous and didn’t want to admit anything to her yet, so he quickly changed the topic. He looked at her neck and noticed two bite marks from where he bit her.

“I’ll get you something to cover it up with. We can’t have people knowing you got bit. Not even my kind.” Ren said going around the plain white room, rummaging through drawers trying to find a bandage. The sounds of drawers clashing echoed the room.

“Your kind? There are different kinds?” Rinka asked confused. She did know about the Xiqs, but she knew that Ren definately wasn’t a Xiq.
“Yeah, there are.” Ren said as he finally pulled out a bandage from the bottom drawer of a desk that was sitting in the opposite corner of the room.

He walked towards her, ripping off the wrapper and peeling the stickers off. His index fingers stuck to the bandage as his hands slowly brushed her neck, concentrating on the bite marks. He placed the bandage carefully on her neck, covering up every sign of her being bit.

“Just say there was a cat who scratched you.” Ren told her quickly. Obviously someone would go up to her and ask how she got a band-aid on her neck, so he just made up a lie for her to tell. She nodded as he backed away, they were just staring at eachother for moments.

“What kind of vampire are you anyways, Ren?” She finally asked studying his face. She didn’t know any other vampire kinds, so why was she trying to guess all of a sudden? It’s not like she was going to hit the jackpot.

Ren sighed and rested his hand on top of her head, then smiled. “It’s a secret.” He smirked and kissed her cheek playfully, ruffling her hair. He was friends with her, and that’s what friends do, right? Do they not kiss each other’s cheeks and ruffle their hair? It didn’t matter to Ren, because that was his first time kissing her.

Well, it was on the cheek but it still counted.

Rinka took it as a friendly gesture and chuckled lightly, feeling annoyed with the school and its secrets.
“How long will it take for me to know what that secret is?” She asked taking Ren’s hand off her hand and joining her hand in his, swinging it from side to side.

Ren smirked before he answered, “Hmm~ When the VCA comes.” Their hands were still swinging. Rinka stopped and her eyes rolled to the ceiling, thinking about the name.
“That sounds awfully familiar,” She said, “what does VCA mean? What is it? Who are they?”

“That’s a secret too~” Ren chuckled poking her cheek with his other hand. She laughed with her head thrown back and her hair swaying from left her right. She hit his shoulder and pouted.
“Don’t do this to me! Let me guess, I’ll find out…soon? When it’s time?” She asked. He winked and ruffled her hair again.

“Bingo~”

“So, you’re really a vampire? JR, Headmaster, Mrs. Shin, that nurse, Hongki, those two other weird guys, everyone else? They are all vampires?” Rinka whispered to Ren as they settled down on the floor in the white room since there was nowhere else to sit.

They decided that they would wait until someone needed them to walk out the room, at this point, they just wanted to talk.

Ren nodded, resting his back against the wall, crossing his arms.
“Yes, but don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.” He said as if it wasn’t anything to be concerned about.
“I called him a monster, Ren.” She said in disgust with herself. “He’s gonna hate me forever.” She held her head and groaned.

“Yah, chill. Trust me, he didn’t feel offended in anyway. And why do you even care about what you said to him so much?” Ren cringed at the thought of JR. How could anyone stand him? He was so stuck up and full of himself.

Rinka sighed, letting go of her head, banging it lightly against the wall. She brought her knees up to her chest, her arms hugging her legs as if they were a teddy bear.
“Because, I was never the type of person to criticize someone before I really knew them well. I don’t really know JR that well, and I don’t know you that well either.” She admitted.

“There is nothing interesting about JR, so don’t waste your time trying to find out more about him.” Ren said quickly. He didn’t want her being a part of JR’s life; he didn’t want JR to be a part of her life either.

She sighed, feeling annoyed of all the hate JR was receiving from Ren at the moment. None of this made sense. If no one knew how they acted towards each other, how cold and cruel they were to each other as well, everyone would say they would look like they could be best friends.

But they weren’t. It seemed like they despised one another’s presence.

“Ren, why do you hate JR so much?” She finally asked him.
“That,” he lifted his head, looking through her eyes, “Is a secret.” He winked.
